Winter camping is essentially unavailable at private parks in this area. Most close by late October or early November and reopen in April, so shoulder-season trips need to be planned around each operator's published open dates.

Roads into the campgrounds run through working Amish farmland and along narrow creek valleys, so expect slow going behind buggies and on some tight, winding approaches. GPS routing is worth double-checking against campground-provided directions for larger rigs, particularly on the back roads leading to the river-corridor parks. Sites range from open, resort-style pads with full hookups and pools to shaded creekside spots with basic water and electric. As these are campgrounds surrounded by nature, visitors will encounter wildlife of all kinds, and campers are asked to be respectful to all creatures. At Circle M, cell service varies by carrier and location within the campground, some interior roads can be steep and narrow, and weekend periods see heavy occupancy. Cell coverage is generally solid near Lancaster and thinner in the river gorges south of town. Grocery, propane, and dump stations are easy to find along Route 30 and Route 741.
