Campgrounds and RV parks near Montandon, PA

The Susquehanna River defines outdoor recreation here. The West Branch Susquehanna offers warm-water and cold-water fishing, with common catches including smallmouth bass, panfish, and catfish, and paddling, boating, and shoreline picnicking are popular on the water. At Milton State Park, roughly three miles of trails on Montgomery Island suit easy walking, birdwatching, and bicycling, which works well for families with young riders. Family attractions sit within an easy drive, including Knoebels Amusement Resort at Elysburg, Clyde Peeling's Reptiland along US-15, and Shikellamy State Park's marina overlook. On Packer Island between Sunbury and Northumberland, Lake Augusta is a 3,000-acre pool formed by the Adam T. Bower Memorial Dam each summer and is popular for boating, fishing, and swimming.

The camping season along this stretch of the Susquehanna Valley runs roughly mid-April through mid-October. Fantasy Island Campground, for example, opens on April 15 and closes on October 15 each year, which is typical for area private parks. Larger resort-style parks such as Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Milton and Splash Magic RV Resort operate on a similar warm-weather calendar, with peak programming during summer school breaks. Summer is the busiest window. Themed weekends, splash pads, and character events draw families, and full-hookup sites and cabins fill quickly on holiday weekends. Late spring and early fall offer cooler nights, thinner crowds, and better site availability, though overnight lows can drop into the 30s Fahrenheit by mid-October. Lake Augusta boating depends on the inflatable dam. The 3,000-acre lake forms when the Adam T. Bower Memorial Dam is inflated each summer, and at 2,100 feet long it is described by the campground as the world's largest inflatable dam. Outside the summer inflation window, river levels drop and boating shifts to canoes and kayaks.

Expect a mix of resort-style family parks and smaller river-oriented campgrounds. Resort parks lean heavily into on-site amenities: Splash Magic RV Resort offers full-hookup RV sites with water, sewer, electric, and cable TV, along with 41 full-service cabins, a family swimming pool with attached splash park, an adult-only pool, an in-ground hot tub, water slides, miniature golf, playgrounds, bumper boats, paddle boats, a game room, and a store. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Milton runs a similar formula with pools, fishing ponds, and character events. Smaller riverfront parks feel different. Fantasy Island Campground has about 100 sites with water, electric, and sewer hookups, poured concrete patios, 30 or 50 amp service, fire rings, cable TV, and free Wi-Fi, though multiple campers note that site spacing is tight and that maneuvering trailers over about 30 feet can be difficult. Confirm site length before booking a large rig.
