For a public-land option, Tobyhanna State Park sits in Monroe and Wayne counties in northeastern Pennsylvania and includes 170-acre Tobyhanna Lake within its 5,440 acres, roughly a half-hour drive south. It anchors the region's state-park camping and pairs well with the private resorts for longer trips.

Tobyhanna State Park uses the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system operated through ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made three days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance, which matters for prime July and August weekends. Campers arriving without a reservation can stop by the park office, or when it is closed check the posting for available sites and use the honor envelope at the office door. Private resorts, including Cherry Ridge Campsites and Lodging, Inc., Keen Lake Camping and Cottage Resort, and Three Pines Campground, take bookings directly through their own websites or by phone, and full-hookup pull-through sites should be requested at booking. Ironwood Point Recreation Area PPL is managed by PPL and typically requires advance reservation through its recreation program during the operating season.
