Campgrounds near New Philadelphia
New Philadelphia sits in Schuylkill County in Pennsylvania's anthracite coal region, on the eastern edge of the state's ridge-and-valley country. The town gives RV travelers quick access to state park camping, private resorts with hookups, and a network of forested lakes within a short drive.
Locust Lake State Park sits on 1,772 acres and centers on a 52-acre lake surrounded by forest, with hiking and fishing among the most popular activities. The park is the closest state-run campground, and nearby Tuscarora State Park adds more trail mileage and lake shoreline. Private options in the area include Rosemount Camping Resort, Christmas Pines Campground, Lakewood Park Campground, and Mountain Springs Camping Resort, spanning full-hookup family resorts to quieter wooded parks.
Interstate 81 runs a few miles west, making New Philadelphia a practical staging point for trips into the Pocono foothills, Jim Thorpe, and Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. Terrain is hilly and wooded, so travelers with larger rigs should confirm site length and approach roads before booking.
Things to do near New Philadelphia
Hiking trails loop inland through the forest, and a 1.3-mile bike trail circles the lake, with tent sites on the north bank near the swimming beach and RV sites near the boat launch to the south. Kayaking, canoeing, and shoreline fishing are standard summer activities, and the wooded loops are popular with families and first-time campers.
Off the water, the region delivers rail-trail biking on the Schuylkill River Trail, whitewater rafting and steam-train rides in Jim Thorpe, and fall hawk-watching at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. Yuengling Brewery tours in Pottsville and Knoebels Amusement Resort are common day-trip add-ons.
Winter activities such as cross-country skiing, ice fishing, and ice skating may be available depending on weather conditions.

The Locust Lake campground opens in early April and closes in mid-October, which sets the practical camping window for the area's state-park option. Private campgrounds nearby often run longer seasons, with some offering shoulder-season sites, though water hookups may be shut off during hard freezes.
July and August are the busiest months. Weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day book out well in advance, and lakeside and full-hookup sites disappear first. Fall foliage peaks in early October, and the lakeside blazes red and orange, bringing cooler nights and lighter crowds that make it a strong window for RV travel.
Spring is wet and cool, with mud on unpaved sites and lingering cold snaps into April. Winter camping is possible only at select private parks, since state-park campgrounds close and secondary roads can ice over quickly in the surrounding hills.

How to book campgrounds near New Philadelphia
Most Pennsylvania state park campsites can be reserved up to 11 months in advance and up to noon on the day of arrival. Online reservations can be made through the Pennsylvania State Parks website or by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), Monday to Saturday. For summer weekends and holidays, booking as far ahead as possible is recommended.
Private campgrounds in the area, including Rosemount Camping Resort, Christmas Pines Campground, Lakewood Park Campground, and Mountain Springs Camping Resort, each handle their own reservations by phone or through their own websites. Minimum stays of two or three nights are common on holiday weekends.
The Locust Lake campground accommodates RVs up to 50 feet with full hookups available on select sites, but shorter rigs have more options; confirm length limits and hookup type at booking.
What to expect at New Philadelphia campgrounds
The wooded campground at Locust Lake has modern campsites, including full-hookup, electric, non-electric, walk-to, and pet-friendly sites, with tenting on the north side of the lake and trailer facilities on the south side. Campground conveniences include restrooms with warm showers, playgrounds, an amphitheater, a sanitary dump station, and a camp store.
Cell service is unpredictable in and around many Pennsylvania State Parks, so downloading the park map before a visit is recommended. Sites can be uneven and rocky in places, and leveling blocks are useful.
Private resorts in the area typically offer full hookups, Wi-Fi at the office or clubhouse, pools, and organized weekend activities. Terrain is hilly, and some access roads are narrow with tight turns, so travelers in larger Class A or fifth-wheel rigs should review directions carefully.

You just need to be 25 or older and pass a quick ID confirmation through the RVezy platform when you book. Visiting from outside the US? help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my New Philadelphia RV trip plans change?
Plans change, and RVezy is built to make canceling low-stress. RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy that applies to every booking, including a full money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates without worry. The exact refund amount after that window depends on how far out your trip is and unique circumstances such as severe weather affecting Schuylkill County. You will not see different cancellation rules listed on each RV because it is a consistent platform-wide process. Pro tip: book early to grab the best Locust Lake and Tuscarora State Park sites, then use the grace period to firm up your plans with confidence.

Tuscarora State Park (a short drive east) and the Schuylkill River Trail also welcome leashed dogs. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee or weight limit, and bring a long lead so your pup can lounge outside the RV at camp.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/locust-lake-state-park.htmlCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near New Philadelphia?
Yes, RV delivery New Philadelphia is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters. Many local hosts will tow or drive the RV right to your reserved site at Locust Lake State Park, Tuscarora State Park, Echo Valley Campground, or even your own driveway, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means zero towing stress for you, no learning to back into a tight wooded site, and your vacation starts the moment you arrive. Delivery fees are typically based on mileage from the host's home base. Pro tip: filter by Delivery and message hosts your exact campsite number so they can confirm access for larger Class A rigs.

pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/locust-lake-state-park/r/campgroundDetails.doWhen is the best time to take an RV trip from New Philadelphia, PA?
The sweet spot for RV camping New Philadelphia runs from late April through mid-October, with each season offering something different. Late spring (May to early June) brings 60 to 75 degree days, blooming mountain laurel, and trout-stocked Locust Lake. Summer (June to August) is peak season, with warm 80 degree days perfect for swimming at the Locust Lake beach (open late May through mid-September). Fall (mid-September through October) is honestly the local favorite: crisp 50 to 70 degree days, fewer bugs, lower rates, and absolutely stunning foliage across the Anthracite Highlands. Pro tip: book a late-September or early-October trip to combine peak leaf-peeping with quieter campgrounds and easier reservations.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never rented an RV before. Will I actually know what to do?
Yes, and you will be amazed how quickly it clicks. First time renting an RV in New Philadelphia is genuinely beginner-friendly because every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, covering how to start the generator, dump the tanks, work the awning, level the rig, and connect to shore power. You can also message your host before booking with any question, no matter how small. If you are nervous about driving, choose a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer for your first trip, and ask the host about delivery so the RV is already set up when you arrive. Pro tip: write down the host's phone number and save RVezy's 24/7 roadside assistance number before leaving the driveway, then enjoy the adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I have a breakdown or problem on the road?
Take a breath, you are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help for flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and mechanical issues is one phone call away anywhere in Pennsylvania. Around New Philadelphia, response times are typically quick because you are close to Interstate 81 and Route 209 service corridors. Your host is also a direct resource: they know their RV inside and out and can troubleshoot quirks by phone. For medical emergencies, the nearest hospitals are Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill in Pottsville (about 8 miles) and St. Luke's Miners Campus in Coaldale (about 12 miles). Pro tip: snap photos of the RV at pickup, save the roadside number to your phone, and you will roll out feeling fully prepared.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my New Philadelphia RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome and easy. From New Philadelphia, you can comfortably road-trip into New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Ohio, and beyond with most RVezy rentals. Travel into Canada is allowed on many listings but depends on the specific host and insurance terms, so message the owner before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because the insurance coverage does not extend there. Popular cross-state runs from New Philadelphia include the Catskills (about 3 hours north), the Jersey Shore (about 3 hours east), and Washington DC (about 3.5 hours south). Pro tip: confirm border-crossing plans in writing through the RVezy messaging system so everything is documented.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on a Pennsylvania RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, so it pays to plan. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 MPG, Class A rigs see 7 to 10 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG while towing). Pennsylvania gas prices tend to run slightly above the national average due to state fuel taxes, and diesel is usually a bit higher than regular. For a typical 200-mile weekend loop from New Philadelphia to Jim Thorpe and back in a Class C, budget roughly $80 to $120 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at larger stations along Interstate 81 (Hometown or Frackville exits) where it's easier to maneuver a big rig and prices are often more competitive.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near New Philadelphia?
Book as early as you can, especially for summer weekends. Pennsylvania State Parks (including Locust Lake and Tuscarora) open reservations up to 11 months in advance, and the best lakefront sites at Locust Lake are routinely snapped up quickly for July and August weekends. Holiday weekends such as Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day disappear first. Private parks like Echo Valley and Mountain Springs typically take reservations 6 to 12 months out. Midweek and shoulder-season (May, September, October) stays are far easier to grab on short notice. Pro tip: set a calendar alert for exactly 11 months before your desired arrival date when state park bookings open so you have the best shot at premium sites.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around New Philadelphia?
Driving in and around New Philadelphia is very RV-friendly with a few smart precautions. Interstate 81 runs just minutes from town and is your main highway to Locust Lake, Hazleton, and Harrisburg. Route 209 winds through the Anthracite coal region with some hills and curves but is fully RV-passable. Local back roads in Schuylkill County can be narrow with low-clearance railroad bridges (a few are under 12 feet), so stick to numbered routes when navigating a tall Class A or Class C. Winter (December to March) can bring snow and ice on mountain stretches, so check 511PA before heading out. Pro tip: always know your RV's height (most rentals are 11 to 13 feet) and use an RV-specific GPS app like RV Trip Wizard to avoid surprise low bridges.
511pa.com/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near New Philadelphia?
Local campgrounds offer a great range of amenities. Locust Lake State Park has 88 electric sites (mostly 30-amp) with water hookups, modern restrooms with hot showers, a dump station, a swimming beach, boat rentals, and a camp store with firewood and ice. Tuscarora State Park is more rustic but has restrooms and picnic facilities nearby. Private parks like Echo Valley and Mountain Springs typically offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, laundry, pools, and propane refills. Need to dump tanks between trips? The Locust Lake dump station is open to registered campers, and many private parks offer dumping for a small fee. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose, a 30-to-50-amp adapter, and a sewer hose support, those three items solve 90% of hookup headaches.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/locust-lake-state-park/stay.htmlWhat's included inside a typical RV rental in New Philadelphia?
Modern RVs are basically rolling apartments. Expect a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware, plates, utensils), a bathroom with shower and toilet, comfortable beds (queen or king in the master, plus convertible dinettes and bunks in larger units), heating and air conditioning, and proper seatbelts for travel. Most Class C and Class A rentals in the New Philadelphia area include a generator for off-grid power, a TV, and often a backup camera. Wi-Fi varies (some hosts add a hotspot, others do not), and cell signal in the Anthracite mountains can be patchy, so download offline maps before you go. Pro tip: scroll the listing photos and the amenities tab, and message the host to confirm bedding, towels, and kitchen basics so you know exactly what to pack.
rvezy.com/What add-ons and mileage policies should I know about?
RVezy hosts in New Philadelphia offer plenty of useful add-ons: linen and towel packages, camping chairs, outdoor grills, bike racks, generators (sometimes included, sometimes a small daily fee), kitchen kits, and even pre-stocked groceries. Mileage policies vary by host: many include 100 to 150 free miles per night with a small per-mile fee beyond that, while others offer RV rental with unlimited mileage (perfect for a long Poconos-to-Lancaster loop). Pickup and dropoff usually happen at the host's home, typically late morning to early afternoon, but many hosts offer delivery to your campground for an extra fee. Pro tip: tally your estimated route miles before booking, then compare unlimited-mileage listings against ones with daily allotments to find the true best value.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002558714-For-RentersHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform when you book (never directly to the host in cash), and your card is charged according to the schedule shown at checkout, typically a portion upfront and the balance before your trip starts. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup to cover any potential issues such as excessive cleaning, damage, or going over included mileage; the amount varies by RV value but is clearly displayed before you confirm. If everything is returned in good shape, the deposit is released back to your card within a few days after the trip. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos and a short video of the RV inside and out at both pickup and dropoff, that simple habit prevents most deposit disputes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in New Philadelphia for winter camping?
Yes, and winter in the Anthracite Highlands can be a magical, quieter way to experience Schuylkill County. Some New Philadelphia hosts offer winter-ready rentals with heated holding tanks, propane furnaces, and skirting for cold-weather camping. Locust Lake State Park keeps a limited number of campsites open year-round (weather permitting), and the surrounding area offers cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing on Locust and Tuscarora lakes. Daytime temperatures from December through February typically range from 25 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit, with overnight lows often in the teens, so cold-weather prep matters. Pro tip: message the host to confirm the RV's furnace, tank heaters, and shore power requirements, and book a site with 30 or 50-amp electric so you can run the heat all night without draining the battery.
