Camping near Northampton, Pennsylvania
Northampton sits in the Lehigh Valley of eastern Pennsylvania, roughly ten miles north of Allentown and within easy reach of the southern Pocono Mountains. The surrounding landscape mixes farmland, the ridge of Blue Mountain, and river corridors along the Lehigh, giving RV travelers a broad choice of private campgrounds within a short drive.
The closest full-service option is Evergreen Lake Campground in Bath, established in 1965 on a 300-acre site at the base of Blue Mountain, with a 25-acre lake and 250 wooded campsites offering water, sewer, electric, and cable hookups. Other nearby choices include Don Laine Campground, Moyers Lake and Campground, Allentown KOA Journey, and Pocono Point RV & Campground.
Allentown KOA Journey sits on a secluded 40-acre property in New Tripoli with a stream running its full length, and Pocono Point RV & Campground in Lehighton offers full-hookup RV sites, cabins, and tent camping within reach of Beltzville State Park, Pocono Raceway, and historic Jim Thorpe. The area works well as a base for both Lehigh Valley attractions and Pocono day trips.
Things to do around Northampton
Families using the Lehigh Valley as a base typically build trips around a mix of theme parks, water, and hiking. Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom offers roller coasters and wave pools, and nearby attractions include The Crayola Experience, Cabela's, and the Lehigh Valley Zoo. Historic Bethlehem and the shops and restaurants of downtown Allentown are within a short drive.
For outdoor recreation, the Appalachian Trail crosses Blue Mountain just north of town, and Beltzville State Park draws swimmers, anglers, and boaters to its reservoir. Water enthusiasts can also head to the Lehigh River for canoeing and whitewater rafting, and the Lehigh Gorge State Park rail trail is popular with cyclists.
On-site amenities matter for families with kids. Evergreen Lake Campground includes an on-site arcade, sandy swim beach, fishing, and miniature golf, and Allentown KOA Journey provides a pool, game room, mini golf, and creek fishing.

The camping season in the Lehigh Valley runs primarily from spring through mid-fall. Most private parks in the area operate on a similar window: Evergreen Lake Campground is open April 15 through October 15, and the Allentown KOA pool runs from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Nearby Pennsylvania state park campgrounds are generally open from mid-spring into December, depending on the park and site type.
Summer is peak season. Weekends fill quickly at family-focused parks, especially around Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day, when campgrounds run themed events, live music, and organized activities. Bug pressure is moderate near wooded and lakeside sites; shade helps on hot afternoons.
Spring and fall bring cooler nights, lighter crowds, and easier reservations. Fall foliage typically peaks in mid to late October across Blue Mountain and the Poconos, making it a strong window for scenic drives and hiking. Winter camping options are limited in the immediate area, though a few private parks in the corridor offer cabin rentals and long-stay RV sites outside the main season.

Great weekend getaway!
Kami A. - Nov 2024
Great vehicle and friendly owners. This compact camper has a lot of creature comforts while allowing one to maneuver and park in regular parking lots. The van is really easy to drive and handles really nice. The beds were comfortable and IMO accommodate 2 adults (top bed) and 1 adult or 2 kids in the lower bed. We were able to use the bike rack, too, and that worked great for a road bike and mountain bike (I think 2 mountain bikes might not fit unless the handle bars were turned on 1 of them). We didn't use the, generator, heater, hot water, shower, sink, microwave or toilet so I can't comment on them but I wish we rented it longer so we could've taken advantage of all this van has to offer. We would absolutely rent again.

How to book campgrounds near Northampton
Most campgrounds within a short drive of Northampton are privately owned and book directly through the campground website or by phone. Evergreen Lake, Don Laine, Moyers Lake and Campground, and Pocono Point RV & Campground all handle reservations in-house, while Allentown KOA Journey is bookable through the KOA network.
For Pennsylvania state park campgrounds in the region, such as Beltzville and Hickory Run, most sites can be reserved up to 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival, and unreserved sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Pennsylvania opens its 11-month window at 12:00 PM Eastern Time, which is an unusual noon release time among state park systems.
Book summer weekends and holidays well ahead, and confirm rig-length limits, hookup type, and pet policies at the time of reservation.
What to expect on site
Campgrounds in this corridor lean family-oriented and lightly wooded rather than remote. Sites tend to be level with a mix of full-hookup, water and electric, and tent-only options, and most parks provide bathhouses with hot showers, laundry, and a camp store.
Rig fit varies. Evergreen Lake accommodates RVs up to 65 feet, with 10 pull-throughs, 100 full hookups, 200 electric and water sites, and 20/30-amp service. Allentown KOA Journey includes 17 cabins, many full-hookup and water and electric RV sites, four individual tent sites, and a group tent site on a secluded 40-acre property with a stream running its full length.
Expect weekend programming at family parks: Evergreen Lake schedules pot luck dinners, themed dinners, ice cream sundaes, horseshoe tournaments, Christmas in July, and flea markets. Cell coverage is generally reliable in the Lehigh Valley and weaker as sites push into the Poconos.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Northampton, PA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Northampton, PA?
RV rental in Northampton, PA is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Lehigh Valley and Poconos. Travel trailers typically run $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $295 per night, and larger Class A coaches average $250 to $450 per night. Stretch your budget by booking midweek (Sunday through Thursday), traveling in May or late September when Pocono crowds thin out, and filtering for hosts who include free generator hours or unlimited mileage. Pro tip: searching for a cheap RV rental Northampton between Memorial Day and mid-June lands you spring foliage along the Lehigh River without peak-summer pricing.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Northampton%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Northampton?
Good news: your everyday Pennsylvania driver's license is all you need for the vast majority of RVs listed on RVezy. Pennsylvania only requires a non-commercial Class B license if you're operating a single motorhome with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, which is rare on the platform. Most Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers in the Lehigh Valley fall well under that threshold. RVezy approved drivers must be 25 or older and verify their ID during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home license and you're set to rent an RV in Pennsylvania.

Every RV rental in Northampton, PA comes with a built-in renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can roll toward the Poconos with real peace of mind. You choose your coverage level at checkout (Essential, Standard, or Premium), and each plan covers physical damage to the RV up to defined limits. Roadside help is just a phone call away whether you get a flat on Route 33 or need a tow off Blue Mountain. Pro tip: take photos and a short video of the RV at pickup and drop-off, which become part of your trip record and help protect your security deposit.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Northampton RV trip?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the host), and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book. After that window, your refund amount depends on how far out you are from your trip start date, with added protections for situations like natural disasters that can matter during Pennsylvania's summer storms or winter nor'easters. The full policy is shown at checkout before any payment is taken. Pro tip: if a hurricane remnant or ice storm threatens your Pocono dates, contact RVezy support right away so they can guide you through your options before departure.

Pro tip: bring proof of current vaccinations, as most Pennsylvania campgrounds require this at check-in, and pack a tie-out and water bowl for breezy summer afternoons on the campsite.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/RecreationandActivities/PetsinStateParks/Pages/default.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway?
Yes, RV delivery Northampton is one of the smartest ways to start your trip, especially if you're a first-timer. Many hosts will drive the RV to your campground, vacation rental, or even your home, set it up, level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Popular delivery destinations from Northampton include Driftstone on the Delaware (about 25 miles), Hickory Run State Park (35 miles), and Jellystone Park in Quakertown (25 miles). Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message the host to confirm distance fees. Pro tip: delivery turns a motorhome rental Northampton into a true plug-and-play vacation.
dcnr.pa.gov/Recreation/WhatToDo/StayOvernight/RVandTentCampsites/Pages/default.aspxHow far can I drive on a typical Northampton RV rental?

From Northampton, you're roughly 35 miles to Jim Thorpe, 60 miles to the Delaware Water Gap, 90 miles to Philadelphia, 95 miles to New York City, and about 110 miles to Hershey Park, all easy day-loops or weekend hops. Pro tip: if you're planning a longer Pennsylvania RV trip, message the host and ask about a flat-rate mileage upgrade, it's often cheaper than the per-mile overage.

dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/HickoryRunStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Northampton?
Late April through October is prime time for a Northampton RV trip, with the absolute sweet spot being mid-September through mid-October when the Pocono and Blue Mountain foliage turns brilliant red and gold and daytime highs sit comfortably in the 60s and 70s. Summer (June to August) brings warm 80 to 85 degree days perfect for tubing the Lehigh River, though July and August can be humid with afternoon thunderstorms. May and early June offer wildflowers and fewer crowds. Winter (December to February) routinely drops into the 20s with snow on Blue Mountain, but adventurous renters can find winterized RVs for ski trips to Blue Mountain Resort and Camelback. Pro tip: book leaf-peeping weekends by mid-July.
weather.gov/phi/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, first time renting an RV is exactly who the RVezy model is built for. Every host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup that walks you through driving, propane, water, electric, slides, and dump procedures, so you're never handed keys and left guessing. The roads around Northampton are forgiving for new drivers: Route 22, Route 33, and I-78 are wide and well-maintained, and the surrounding Lehigh Valley terrain is rolling rather than mountainous. If city driving makes you nervous, ask the host for delivery so you can skip the pickup commute entirely. Pro tip: practice a few right turns and backing into a parking spot at a quiet lot like a closed-on-Sunday business park before heading to camp.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/SafetyHomePageFiles/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance bundled into the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 248, a dead battery at a trailhead, or a lockout at the campground is just one phone call away. The roadside team coordinates tows, jump-starts, tire changes, fuel delivery, and lockout service across Pennsylvania. Your host is also typically a text away for quick questions about the RV's quirks, and if a system fails (AC, fridge, or generator), RVezy support can help mediate solutions. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's contact in your phone before leaving Northampton, cell service can get patchy in the Poconos.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Northampton rental on a road trip to other states or Canada?
Absolutely, an RV road trip from Northampton opens up the whole Northeast. New Jersey beaches like Cape May are about 2.5 hours south, the Catskills are 2 hours north, Niagara Falls is roughly 6 hours northwest, and the Maine coast is reachable in a long weekend. Cross-border travel to Canada is allowed on many listings (popular for Niagara-on-the-Lake or Montreal trips), but you must message the host first to confirm and verify insurance coverage extends north. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance limitations. Pro tip: carry your passport, vehicle registration, and a host-signed travel letter if crossing into Canada to speed up border processing.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on a Northampton RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable cost, but Northampton has plenty of affordable stations along Route 329 and MacArthur Road to top off before you leave. Class B campervans get around 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes typically deliver 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A coaches average 6 to 10 MPG. Pennsylvania gas prices generally hover near the national average, with diesel running slightly higher. For a 200-mile weekend loop to Jim Thorpe and back, budget roughly $75 to $150 in fuel depending on RV size. Pro tip: GasBuddy and the Pilot/Flying J app are gold for finding the cheapest diesel along I-78 and I-80, and many truck stops have RV-friendly pumps with high clearance.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Northampton?
For Pennsylvania state parks like Hickory Run, Beltzville, and Promised Land, you can reserve up to 11 months in advance through the official Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system (ReserveAmerica), and summer weekends genuinely do sell out by spring. For midweek stays, you can often book just a week ahead. Pro tip: weekend reservations during summer require a two-night minimum at PA state parks, so plan a Friday-Saturday or Saturday-Sunday combo and you're golden.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Northampton?
Driving an RV around Northampton is refreshingly straightforward. The town sits at the edge of the Lehigh Valley with mostly gentle rolling terrain, and major routes like Route 22, Route 33, Route 145, and I-78 are wide, well-marked, and RV-friendly. Watch for low clearances under some older railroad bridges in downtown Allentown and Bethlehem (keep to designated truck routes), and take it slow on Blue Mountain switchbacks heading toward Jim Thorpe. Winter brings occasional snow and black ice from December through February, so if you're winter-renting, check PennDOT's 511PA app before heading out. Pro tip: avoid Route 22 eastbound between 4 and 6 PM weekdays, the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton commuter crunch is no fun in a 30-foot motorhome.

Campgrounds near Northampton range from full-service resorts to rustic state park sites, so you can pick the experience you want. Private parks like Driftstone on the Delaware, Jellystone Quakertown, and Evergreen Lake offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer), Wi-Fi, swimming pools, camp stores, and dump stations. Pennsylvania state parks like Hickory Run and Beltzville have modern restrooms with hot showers, water and electric at most sites, and centralized dump stations (no individual sewer hookups). Potable water fill stations are available at every state park campground. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot fresh water hose, a 90-degree elbow, and a sewer hose support, those three items make hookups at any Pennsylvania campground 10 times easier.

Expect a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink, cookware, and dishes), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 2 to 8 people, climate control with roof AC and propane furnace, a dinette that converts to a bed, and seatbelts for all driving passengers. Many hosts include linens, towels, a TV, outdoor chairs, a portable grill, and sometimes a generator or solar setup. Wi-Fi hotspots are an increasingly common add-on. Each listing's amenity list shows exactly what's included. Pro tip: message the host to confirm what's stocked before you go grocery shopping at the Northampton Giant or Wegmans in Allentown, you may not need to buy as much as you think.

Some hosts offer one-way drop-off, message them directly through the listing to ask, especially for popular routes like Northampton to Pittsburgh or down the Jersey Shore. Pro tip: bundle a delivery, setup, and pickup package for a campervan rental Northampton and your whole vacation becomes carry-on simple.
discoverlehighvalley.com/things-to-do/outdoors/How does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment on RVezy is straightforward and handled entirely through the platform, no cash is exchanged with the host. You'll pay the trip total (rental, fees, taxes, and your chosen protection plan) via credit card when you book, and a refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup. The deposit amount is shown on the listing before you book, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV. As long as you return the rig clean, on time, and in the same shape it left, the hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: do a careful walk-around video at pickup and drop-off, this protects both you and the host and keeps your full deposit moving smoothly back to your card.
