Campgrounds and RV parks near Palmdale, PA

Hersheypark is the anchor attraction, and Hersheypark Camping Resort guests receive free front gate shuttle service plus extra park hours through Sweet Start and Preview Plan. Chocolate World, ZooAmerica, Hershey Gardens, and the AACA Museum are all clustered nearby, and resort guests also get preferred pricing to several of those venues. Beyond the theme park, families reach Lancaster County's Amish farmland, the Strasburg Rail Road, Dutch Wonderland, and the PA Renaissance Faire within about a half-hour drive. History travelers can day-trip to Gettysburg and the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg. Outdoor options include Swatara State Park, Appalachian Trail crossings to the north, and Indian Echo Caverns. Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday adds on-site amenities like a pool, mini-golf, and organized activities for family stays.

Summer is peak season. Warm, humid weather aligns with Hersheypark's daily operating calendar from late May through Labor Day, and private campgrounds near the park book weeks ahead for holiday weekends. Pools and outdoor amenities at the resort campgrounds run seasonally; the Hersheypark Camping Resort outdoor pool typically opens in late May and runs through Labor Day. Thunderstorms are common in June, July, and August. Spring and fall are quieter with cooler nights and lighter crowds. Fall brings foliage across the rolling farmland and cooler daytime temperatures, though early September can still be humid. Remnants of tropical systems occasionally track through Pennsylvania and can produce heavy rainfall and flooding along Swatara Creek and other regional waterways. Winter is cold with snow possible from December through March. January is the coldest and snowiest month at the nearby Harrisburg station. Several area campgrounds reduce services or close seasonal amenities, though Hersheypark Camping Resort operates year-round, and Hersheypark runs a limited Christmas Candylane season that drives weekend demand in December.

Sites in the Hershey area skew toward family-oriented resort campgrounds rather than backcountry settings. Expect gravel pads, full or partial hookups, Wi-Fi at most private parks, and organized weekend activities during the summer season. Traffic around Hersheypark peaks on weekend mornings and after park close, so timing arrivals midday helps. Partial hookup sites at Hersheypark Camping Resort include electric, water, and cable, with electric available at 20, 30, and 50 amp; full-hookup sites add sewer. Rig-size limits vary by park, and some tent sites are gravel with fire ring and picnic table included. State park sites carry a 14-consecutive-night limit from Memorial Day to Labor Day and a 21-night limit the rest of the year, with a required 48-hour gap between reservations.
