Campgrounds near Penryn, Pennsylvania
Penryn sits in Penn Township in northern Lancaster County, roughly halfway between Hershey and the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. The surrounding countryside is farmland, low ridges, and small state game lands, and it puts RV travelers within a short drive of Amish attractions, Hershey theme parks, and the Susquehanna River corridor.
Campgrounds in the immediate area lean toward family-focused RV resorts rather than remote wilderness sites. PA Dutch Country RV Resort and Pinch Pond Family Campground are among the closest options, with Starlite Camping Resort tucked into the northern part of the county and Hershey RV and Camping Resort positioned for park-goers heading to Hersheypark. Circle M RV and Camping Resort adds a themed, activity-heavy option on the Lancaster side.
Most parks here offer full hookups, cable, pools, and cabin rentals, and many stay open a long shoulder season. Because Penryn is central to a heavily visited region, sites can book well ahead for summer weekends, Hersheypark season, and fall foliage weeks.
Things to do near Penryn
Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area is the standout natural draw. The roughly 6,000-acre property has a 400-acre lake, hiking trails, a Visitors Center, and a seasonal Wildlife Drive. From late February into March it hosts one of the East Coast's largest waterfowl migrations, with snow geese, tundra swans, and Canada geese staging in large numbers.
Families typically pair camp days with Hersheypark, Dutch Wonderland, Sight and Sound Theatres, and the outlet shopping and smorgasbords around Lancaster. Refreshing Mountain offers zip-lining and adventure courses close to the northern campgrounds.
Closer to the campsites, expect farm-country cycling on quiet back roads, covered bridge drives, on-property fishing ponds at several parks, and easy access to the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail along the Susquehanna.

Peak season runs late May through mid-October, with the busiest windows tied to Hersheypark's summer schedule, Fourth of July, and fall foliage weekends in October. Sites at the larger resorts fill weeks ahead for those dates, and holiday weekends often require multi-night minimums.
Spring is a strong shoulder season. Late February and March bring the snow-goose and tundra-swan spectacle at Middle Creek, followed by mild, greening farmland in April and May. Rain is common in spring and summer, and August is typically the wettest single month, with humid afternoons and pop-up thunderstorms.
Fall shifts cool and clear by late September, with foliage generally peaking in mid to late October across northern Lancaster County. Winter is cold and quiet: many private campgrounds close or run on a limited seasonal schedule from roughly late October through March, though a few, including PA Dutch Country RV Resort, keep sites available year-round. Snow is possible from December through March, with light accumulations most years.

How to book a site near Penryn
Nearly all campgrounds around Penryn are privately owned, so reservations go through each park's own website or phone line rather than a state or federal portal. Pinch Pond Family Campground, Starlite Camping Resort, Hershey RV and Camping Resort, and Circle M RV and Camping Resort all take direct bookings. PA Dutch Country RV Resort is part of the Thousand Trails network, which layers membership options on top of nightly rentals.
For summer weekends, Hersheypark event dates, and October foliage, book two to three months out. Weekday and shoulder-season stays are usually available closer in.
For public land nearby, Pennsylvania State Parks in the region are reserved through the state's online reservation system. Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area itself does not offer overnight camping.
What to expect on the ground
Expect classic Mid-Atlantic RV resorts: paved or gravel pads, full hookups on most RV sites, shaded pull-throughs alongside sunnier back-ins, and family amenities like pools, playgrounds, mini golf, arcades, and stocked fishing ponds. Big-rig access is generally workable at PA Dutch Country RV Resort, Pinch Pond Family Campground, and Circle M RV and Camping Resort, though some older interior loops have tight turns and hilly terrain that can complicate leveling.
Cell coverage is generally reliable across northern Lancaster County, and most parks offer paid Wi-Fi or hotspots. Cable TV hookups are common at the larger resorts.
Roads leading to campgrounds are rural, with active Amish horse-and-buggy traffic, blind hill crests, and narrow shoulders. Drive slowly, especially at dawn and dusk, and plan longer transit times than a map estimate suggests.

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Penryn, Pennsylvania. PennDOT does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any RV-specific endorsement for non-commercial motorhomes or trailers used for personal travel, no matter the size. Every guest on RVezy must be 25 or older with a valid license, and ID verification is handled right inside the platform during checkout, so there are no awkward in-person paperwork moments. Visiting from abroad? An International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto club pairs with your home license nicely. Most first-time renters in Lancaster County are surprised how quick the approval flows.

Refund amounts depend on how far ahead of your trip start date you cancel, and if a host cancels on you, RVezy will refund you or provide travel credits. Lancaster County thunderstorms in July are no joke, so it's reassuring to know the policy is standardized. Reach RVezy support anytime if plans shift.

Popular delivery destinations include Pinch Pond Family Campground in Manheim, Old Mill Stream in Lancaster, and Hershey Road Campground less than 30 minutes away. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see hosts and their delivery radius. Pro tip: ask if setup and pickup fees are bundled to keep your motorhome rental Penryn budget tidy.
visitpa.com/things-to-do/outdoors-recreation/campingHow many miles can I drive on a Penryn RV rental?
Most Penryn hosts include a daily mileage allowance, typically 100 to 150 free miles per day, and many offer RV rental with unlimited mileage packages, especially for week-long bookings. That's plenty for a classic Lancaster County loop: Hershey is just 25 miles west, Gettysburg about 55 miles southwest, Philadelphia roughly 75 miles east, and Washington D.C. around 130 miles south. If you're planning a bigger RV road trip from Penryn, like the 200-mile run to the Poconos or the Shenandoah Valley, ask the host about a custom mileage package up front. discoverlancaster.com/places-to-stay/campgrounds/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Penryn?

weather.gov/ctp/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay starting from Penryn?
You're going to do great. Penryn is actually one of the easiest places in Pennsylvania to start your first RV adventure because the surrounding roads are gently rolling, well-paved, and far less hectic than Philadelphia or Pittsburgh traffic. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup covering driving, hookups, propane, and dump procedures, so you're never left guessing. First time renting an RV here? Stick to Route 72, Route 322, and Route 30 for your early miles, all wide and RV-friendly, and avoid downtown Lancaster's narrow one-way grid. Pro tip: message your host with any question before booking, most reply within an hour and love coaching first-timers.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking from Penryn includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 72, a dead battery at Pinch Pond, or a propane issue at Hershey Road Campground is one phone call away from help. Roadside dispatches local providers throughout south-central Pennsylvania, and RVezy's support team is reachable before, during, and after every trip. Your host is also typically just a text away to walk you through quirks of their specific rig. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup, it speeds up any roadside call by a few minutes.

Cross-border travel into Canada may be permitted with host approval, and RVezy protection coverage applies in the US and Canada only, so confirm with the listing owner before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Popular interstate routes include Penryn to Gettysburg (55 miles), Penryn to Ocean City, MD (130 miles), and Penryn to Niagara Falls (260 miles). Pro tip: message the host about your full route, they often share favorite overnight stops along the way.

Plan smart and you'll keep fuel costs reasonable on your Penryn RV trip. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A's run 6 to 10, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG combined). Pennsylvania gas prices typically sit a bit above the national average, with diesel running 20 to 50 cents higher than regular. For a typical week-long Lancaster County loop covering 400 to 500 miles, budget roughly $180 to $280 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Sheetz or Rutter's on Route 72 in Manheim before heading out, both have RV-friendly pump bays and consistently lower prices than gas stations closer to tourist corridors.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Penryn?
For the smoothest Penryn RV trip, book your campground 2 to 4 months ahead for summer weekends and 4 to 6 months ahead for fall foliage and major events like the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire in Manheim or Hershey's Halloween in the Park. Private campgrounds like Pinch Pond, Old Mill Stream, and Starlite take reservations directly through their websites. For nearby Pennsylvania state parks like French Creek or Gifford Pinchot, use the official reservation system to book up to 11 months in advance. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) often have same-week availability even in peak season, so don't give up if your dream weekend is full.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Reservations/Pages/default.aspxWhat are the local driving conditions like around Penryn?
Driving an RV around Penryn is genuinely pleasant. The terrain is gently rolling Lancaster County farmland with wide shoulders on most state routes, low traffic outside rush hour, and minimal steep grades. The biggest things to watch for are Amish horse-and-buggy traffic on rural roads (slow down, give a full lane, and never honk), occasional low covered bridges (Forry's Mill and Erb's Bridge both have clearance limits, just take the marked detour), and summer pop-up thunderstorms. Avoid downtown Lancaster's tight one-way streets and the King Street corridor with anything over 25 feet. Pro tip: PA 511 gives real-time traffic and weather alerts statewide, a quick check before leaving the campground saves headaches.
