Campgrounds and RV parks near Ravine, PA

Swatara State Park is the main outdoor draw. The park provides 18.2 miles of hiking trails including the Swatara Rail Trail and the Appalachian Trail, along with mountain biking and access points for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing on Swatara Creek. Stocked streams in Schuylkill and Berks counties also draw trout anglers in spring. Rainy-day and off-park options are close. Families can visit the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville, or drive to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary to watch raptor migration in the fall. Cabela's flagship store in Hamburg and the shops and Amish country of Lancaster County are both reachable as a day trip. Hersheypark is roughly a half-hour drive southwest, making it a common day trip from campgrounds in the Ravine and Jonestown corridor.

The camping season in this part of Pennsylvania runs spring through fall. Most private campgrounds around the Schuylkill Haven area operate on a spring-through-fall schedule, with peak availability from April through October. Pennsylvania state park campgrounds generally follow a similar window, though opening and closing dates vary by park, and a limited number of sites in the wider region stay available in the shoulder months. Late spring brings green hillsides, higher creek flows for paddling, and stocked trout streams. Summer is the busiest window, with warm, humid days and afternoon thunderstorms; weekends at Twin Grove RV Resort and Cottages and the Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA Journey book out early around holidays and Hersheypark visits. Fall is the sweet spot for many RV renters. Situated between two mountains, Swatara State Park offers some of the best fall foliage views in the valley, with a network of trails to explore as the leaves change, nights turn cool, and bugs drop off. Winter camping is limited; most private parks close, and freezing temperatures make hookups and water lines a planning concern.

Expect wooded, rolling terrain with mixed sun and shade. Private parks in the area typically offer a mix of full-hookup and partial-hookup sites, dump stations, showers, pools or splash features, and family programming, with sites tucked under mature trees. Camp Swatara sits near the creek and offers on-site water recreation, while Twin Grove RV Resort and Cottages and the Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA Journey lean toward larger, resort-style layouts. Roads into the campgrounds are paved but narrow in spots, with some low tree canopy; larger Class A and fifth-wheel renters should confirm site length and clearance when booking. Cell coverage is generally solid near I-81 and thins out on the back roads toward the ridges. Firewood is usually sold on site, since moving it in from outside the region is discouraged.
