Rothsville camping overview
Rothsville sits in northern Lancaster County, within easy reach of Amish farmland, the Ephrata Cloister, and the tourism corridor along Route 30. The area is served almost entirely by private RV parks and family campgrounds rather than public lands, so most trip planning centers on booking a commercial resort a short drive from town.
Starlite Camping Resort is a family-owned campground in nearby Stevens, set on wooded grounds in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Other nearby options include Old Mill Stream Camping Manor along the Route 30 tourism corridor, Woodcrest Retreat in Ephrata, Hickory Run Family Camping Resort in Denver, and Cocalico Creek Campground.
Most facilities in this pocket of Lancaster County are private parks with pools, playgrounds, and full or partial hookups rather than backcountry sites. Public state park camping is available farther afield through the Pennsylvania DCNR system, which uses a single statewide reservation portal.
Things to do around Rothsville
Families base out of Rothsville to reach Dutch Wonderland, the Strasburg Rail Road, and the Amish farms and markets that fill Lancaster County. The Strasburg Rail Road is the oldest continuously operating railroad in the country, and visitors can tour Amish farmlands by scooter or horse and buggy, or head into Lancaster for Central Market and the Fulton Theatre.
On-site recreation varies by campground. The fishing lake at Hickory Run Family Camping Resort draws families consistently, and activities include horseback riding, bingo, and live music on weekends, with Halloween weekend particularly popular among returning guests. Starlite Camping Resort has a heated pool, playground, and tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts.
Cyclists ride the country roads through Lititz and Ephrata, and farm-stand shopping is a low-effort day out from any site.

Lancaster County has a humid continental climate marked by warm summers and cold winters. Precipitation is fairly wet and spread relatively evenly through the year, though winter moisture often arrives as snowfall. Strong seasonal temperature contrasts shape when private campgrounds open and how far ahead sites need to be booked.
Most commercial parks near Rothsville run a spring-to-fall season. Hickory Run Family Camping Resort operates from April 1 through November 1, and Starlite Camping Resort runs from early May through the end of October. Old Mill Stream Camping Manor stays open longer into the shoulder seasons.
Fall is the standout window for scenery. Amish Country peaks in October, when foliage lines the country roads and farmers' markets fill with local produce that campers can bring back to a cabin or RV site. Summer weekends and October foliage weekends fill first, so booking well ahead is the norm at every park on the list.

How to book campgrounds near Rothsville
Private resorts in this area take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Starlite Camping Resort does not accept email or online reservation requests and asks guests to call to book. Weekend minimums are standard in peak season, with two-night minimums common between Memorial Day and Labor Day and three nights for holiday weekends at family resorts such as Woodcrest Retreat.
For public campgrounds within driving distance, Pennsylvania uses a single reservation portal. Most campsites in Pennsylvania state parks can be reserved 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival. Advance reservations are available for almost all campsites, and unreserved sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Bookings can be made using the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations website or by calling 888-PA-PARKS.
What to expect on the ground
Expect commercial, amenity-heavy campgrounds rather than backcountry sites. Hickory Run Family Camping Resort has 211 sites including 12 tent-only sites, a 65-foot max RV length, 24 pull-throughs, 87 full hookups, 2 electric-only sites, and 122 electric-and-water sites with 20/30/50-amp service. Starlite offers water and electric (30/50-amp) on every site, with sewer connections on many sites and a dump station on the property.
Sites vary in drainage and privacy within a single park. Some low-lying sites experience runoff during heavy rain while elevated locations fare better, so it is worth asking for a site map when booking.
Roads are narrow farm lanes in places, and traffic on Route 30 gets heavy on summer weekends. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the county.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Rothsville%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat kind of license do I need to rent an RV in Rothsville, PA?
Great news for first-time renters: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Rothsville for nearly every motorhome, campervan, or travel trailer on RVezy. Pennsylvania only requires a non-commercial Class B license if you're driving a single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, which is well above the weight of the typical Class B, Class C, and travel trailer rentals you'll find on the platform. You'll also need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right through the booking flow, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home license and you're good to roll toward Hershey or the Poconos.
pa.gov/agencies/penndot/driver-vehicle-services/driver-services/driver-licensing.htmlIs my RV rental in Rothsville protected if something goes wrong?
Yes. Every RV rental in Rothsville booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Route 222 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose the coverage level that fits your comfort at checkout (the host does not set this). It is not traditional auto insurance, but it offers strong financial protection for renters and is one of the biggest reasons first-time guests feel confident booking with RVezy. Pro tip: review the protection options side by side before booking your Lancaster County trip so you know exactly what is covered before you pull into Dutch Wonderland or Hersheypark.

Booking your motorhome rental in Rothsville is low risk. RVezy (not the host) sets every cancellation policy, which includes a money-back grace period right after booking so you can confirm your dates without second-guessing. The exact refund window depends on how far out your trip is and on circumstances like severe weather, which is helpful if a summer thunderstorm rolls through Lancaster County. Because cancellation terms are handled platform-wide for consistency, you will not see them on individual listings. Pro tip: book early to secure top-rated hosts near Lititz and Ephrata, then relax knowing RVezy support is one tap away if your plans shift.

Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any breed or size notes and you are set.

Many local hosts will tow the trailer or drive the motorhome to your campground, driveway, or event site, then handle full setup including leveling, hookups, and slide-outs, plus a walkthrough so you are not figuring anything out alone. Popular delivery spots from Rothsville include Old Mill Stream Campground in Lancaster (about 10 miles), Hersheypark Camping Resort in Hummelstown (about 25 miles), and Flory's Cottages and Camping in Ronks (about 12 miles). From Rothsville, Hershey is about 25 miles, Gettysburg about 55 miles, Philadelphia about 70 miles, Washington DC about 130 miles, the Pocono Mountains about 110 miles, and New York City about 175 miles, all easy distances for a long weekend. Pro tip: if you are planning a big RV road trip from Rothsville to somewhere like Niagara Falls (around 290 miles), filter for unlimited-mileage listings first to keep your budget tight and your itinerary wide open.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Rothsville%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhere are the best campgrounds near Rothsville to park my RV?
You're in one of the most camper-friendly corners of Pennsylvania. Some of the best campgrounds near Rothsville for RV camping include Old Mill Stream Campground in Lancaster, right next to Dutch Wonderland with full hookups; Flory's Cottages and Camping in Ronks, a quiet Amish-country favorite; Country Acres Campground in Gordonville, with a pool and pond; Sun Outdoors Lancaster County in Narvon, with resort-style amenities; and Hershey Road Campground in Elizabethtown, just 15 minutes away. For state-park camping, French Creek State Park (about 35 miles east) has wooded RV sites with electric. Pro tip: weekends in summer fill fast, so book your spot as soon as your RVezy dates are locked in.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/FrenchCreekStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Rothsville?
Rothsville is a true four-season destination, but late April through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Rothsville. Spring (April to May) brings 55 to 70 degree days and blooming farmland; summer (June to August) is warm at 80 to 88 degrees with fairs, farmers markets, and Hersheypark fun; and fall (mid-September to late October) is magical, with 60 to 70 degree days, crisp nights, and brilliant foliage across the Welsh Mountains. Winter dips to 25 to 40 degrees and some campgrounds close, but four-season hosts on RVezy still rent year-round. Pro tip: book the last two weeks of September to catch peak harvest season at Cherry Crest Adventure Farm without summer crowds.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Rothsville?
You're going to do great, and Rothsville is one of the easier places in PA to start. First time renting an RV? Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering driving, hookups, slide-outs, and tank dumping, plus they're a text away during your trip. The roads around Rothsville are mostly flat, two-lane country routes through farmland, so you'll get comfortable before tackling anything bigger. Stick to Route 222 and Route 30 for smooth driving, and avoid the narrow covered bridges in Intercourse and Strasburg, which have low clearances. Pro tip: book a Class B campervan or a 24-foot Class C for your first trip; they drive close to a large van and park easily at any Lancaster County campground.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if I have a breakdown or flat tire during my Rothsville RV trip?
You are covered, day or night. Every RV rental in Rothsville booked through RVezy comes with 24/7 roadside assistance included in the protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 501, a dead battery at Old Mill Stream, or a tow on the PA Turnpike can be handled with one call. The roadside team can dispatch tire service, jumpstarts, fuel delivery, lockout help, and towing to the nearest qualified shop. Your host is also a direct message away for quick questions about quirks like the awning or generator. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup and save the RVezy support number in your phone before you leave Rothsville.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Rothsville RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate road trips are welcomed by most Rothsville hosts, so you can cross into Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, New York, or West Virginia, all within a day's drive. Popular routes include Rothsville to the Outer Banks (about 380 miles), Rothsville to Acadia National Park (about 600 miles), and a New England loop through Vermont and New Hampshire. Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance, so message them through the listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: a Rothsville to Niagara Falls to Finger Lakes loop is about 700 miles round-trip and an unforgettable five-day adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Rothsville RV trip?
Fuel is easier to plan than you'd think. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon in the Lancaster area, with diesel a bit higher. For your motorhome rental in Rothsville, expect a Class B campervan to get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), a Class C around 8 to 12 MPG, a Class A around 7 to 10 MPG, and a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer around 10 to 14 MPG. A 300-mile weekend loop to Gettysburg and back in a Class C usually runs $90 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: fuel up at the Sheetz or Rutter's stations along Route 222 in Ephrata, they consistently price lower than the stations right off Route 30 in tourist zones.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground for my Rothsville RV trip?
Earlier is better, but you have options. For summer weekends and fall foliage season (mid-September to late October), book Lancaster County campgrounds like Old Mill Stream, Flory's, or Sun Outdoors 3 to 6 months ahead. Pennsylvania State Parks like French Creek and Gifford Pinchot open reservations up to 11 months in advance, and prime sites go fast for July and October. For midweek or shoulder-season trips, 2 to 4 weeks is usually plenty. Pro tip: pair an RVezy delivery booking with a campground that has a long pull-through site so the host can drop your rental, level it, and leave you ready for s'mores by sunset.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Rothsville?
Driving around Rothsville is refreshingly low-stress for an RV. You'll find flat-to-rolling two-lane roads through Amish farmland with light traffic outside of weekday commutes near Lancaster and Ephrata. Watch for horse-drawn buggies, especially on Route 772 and around Intercourse, give them wide passing space and slow to 25 mph. Avoid Route 340 covered bridges and the historic downtown streets of Lititz with anything over 11 feet tall. Winter can bring snow and black ice from December through February, so check 511PA before heading out. Pro tip: use Route 222 and Route 30 as your main arteries, then take backroads like Newport Road for scenic drives, you'll get the postcard views without the tight squeezes.
511pa.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Rothsville?
Lancaster County campgrounds are some of the best-equipped in the Northeast. Most RV parks near Rothsville offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, pools, and playgrounds. Old Mill Stream and Sun Outdoors Lancaster County both have on-site dump stations and potable water fill, plus pull-through sites for bigger rigs. For state-park stays at French Creek, expect electric hookups and a centralized dump station but no sewer at the site. Need to dump or fill mid-trip? The Flying J in Carlisle (about 50 miles west) has a public RV dump and fresh water fill. Pro tip: pack a 25-foot sewer hose and a water pressure regulator; older Lancaster campgrounds occasionally have high line pressure that can damage RV plumbing.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/WhatToDo/Camping/Pages/default.aspxWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Rothsville?
You'll feel right at home. A typical campervan rental in Rothsville or motorhome from RVezy comes fully equipped: real beds (queen or king in larger units, plus bunks or convertible dinettes), a kitchen with fridge, freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink, and basic cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with air conditioning and a furnace, and seatbelts for everyone traveling. Most listings include a TV, and many offer Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, or a generator for off-grid stops. Class C and Class A motorhomes sleep 4 to 8, while campervans sleep 2 to 4. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities list and message the host to confirm linens, towels, and a starter kit are included so you can pack lighter for your Lancaster County trip.
visitpa.com/things-to-do/rv-campingWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for a Rothsville RV rental?
Hosts in the Rothsville area offer terrific add-ons to make your trip smoother. Popular extras include linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits ($20 to $50), camping chairs and outdoor mats ($15 to $30), portable grills ($15 to $40), generators (often $25 to $50 per day), bike racks, and even pre-stocked firewood. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Rothsville, Lititz, or Ephrata, but many hosts offer delivery and setup directly to your campground or driveway. Mileage policies typically include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with $0.30 to $0.45 per extra mile and unlimited-mileage options available. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a linen kit and you'll arrive to a fully made-up RV, no setup required.
visitpa.com/region/dutch-country-roadsHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Rothsville?
Payment is simple and secure. RVezy handles everything through the platform, so you never hand over cash or a personal check to a host. You pay with a credit or debit card when you book, and your trip total is held safely until your reservation begins. Most Rothsville hosts also require a refundable security deposit, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV class, which is pre-authorized (not charged) on your card a few days before pickup and released after a smooth return. To avoid issues, do a walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, return the RV on time with the agreed fuel and propane levels, and follow the mileage and generator limits. Pro tip: always book through RVezy's secure checkout and never pay outside the platform, that is how you keep your protection plan fully active.
