Campgrounds near Royalton, Pennsylvania
Royalton is a small borough in Dauphin County along the Susquehanna River, about eleven miles southeast of Harrisburg and roughly ten miles south of Hershey. It is part of the Harrisburg-Carlisle Metropolitan Statistical Area, with the state capital eleven miles to the northwest. The location puts RV renters within easy reach of Hersheypark, Amish Country in Lancaster County, and the Gettysburg battlefields, all reachable as day trips.
Campground options in the immediate area cover the full range of RV needs. Harrisburg East Campground is roughly 10 minutes from Hershey Park and Hershey attractions, the Farm Show Complex and Downtown, and 45 minutes from Lancaster and Gettysburg, and it operates year-round with full hook-ups. Hersheypark Camping Resort sits just minutes from the theme park with shuttle access. Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday, Hershey Road Campground, and Bainbridge Rock Quarry Campground round out the choices, each within a short drive of Royalton.
The area sits at the crossroads of I-76 (PA Turnpike), I-81, I-83 and US 322, positioned between Hershey, Lancaster and Gettysburg, and less than 10 miles from Harrisburg. That road network makes Royalton a practical basecamp for multi-stop trips across south-central Pennsylvania.
Things to do near Royalton
Hersheypark anchors most family trips, with roller coasters, family rides, and Hershey's Chocolate World nearby for interactive tastings and treats. ZooAmerica houses animals native to North America, and Hershey Gardens and The Hershey Story Museum offer quieter add-ons.
Outdoor recreation is close at hand. The Susquehanna River and Swatara Creek support canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding, and the Swatara Water Trail connects to paths used by hikers and bikers. The Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad runs a scenic tour in a vintage coach for a low-key afternoon.
Harrisburg adds the State Capitol, the National Civil War Museum, and river-walk paths, and Lancaster County's Amish farms and markets are a short drive east. Adventure-seeking visitors can even take a kayak and stay overnight on an island on the Susquehanna River.

Fantastic experience! The RV delivery and pick up were easy, the RV was clean and comfortable- our granddaughter loved the top bunk- and Owen communicated effectively, even when I texted him kind of late to ask about the stove. I would highly reccomend Owen!

Booking and reservations
Book Hersheypark Camping Resort directly through its reservation portal. Recent policy requires guests to be 21 or older to make a reservation for a campsite or cabin, so verify the primary booker's ID before arrival. Weekends during the Hersheypark operating season and holiday periods sell out well in advance, so lock in dates as early as possible for peak summer.
Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday takes reservations by phone, online, or through the KOA App. Harrisburg East Campground reserves by phone at (717) 939-4331 or by email request through its website. Smaller nearby parks such as Hershey Road Campground and Bainbridge Rock Quarry Campground are best booked directly through the operators.
One planning note for RV renters: outside firewood is restricted at several parks, and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture discourages moving firewood into the state due to invasive pests including Emerald Ash Borer and Spotted Lanternfly. Buy firewood on site.
What to expect on the ground
Most parks in the area cater to standard rental RVs. Harrisburg East Campground offers full hook-up sites with water, sewer and electric, semi hook-up sites with water and electric, tree-shaded pull-through and back-in sites, 50-amp sites, and a separate tenting area, with most sites accommodating multiple slides. Hersheypark Camping Resort has a mix of open and shaded sites, cabins, full hook-up sites with electric, water, sewer and cable, partial sites, and tent sites, with shuttle service to the park gate on operating days.
Amenity-rich parks like the KOA add pools, mini-golf, playgrounds, and camp stores. Expect packed gravel roads and parking pads with shaded pull-through sites, clean amenities, and access to a pool, restrooms with showers, and a laundry. Some highway noise is possible at parks close to the Turnpike or I-83. Cell coverage and Wi-Fi are generally reliable across the area.
