Things to do near Sand Hill
Hersheypark, Hershey's Chocolate World, and ZooAmerica sit within a short drive and anchor most family itineraries. Indian Echo Caverns, outlet shopping, and Amish farm markets in Lancaster County add rainy-day and low-key options. Outdoor recreation is close as well. Peak season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when swimming pools, splash pads, and boating amenities are open and Hersheypark is at full operation. July and August are the hottest and most humid months, and campground pools become a meaningful factor when choosing a site. Weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day book well ahead, particularly at resorts closest to Hershey.
Spring and fall are the value windows. May through mid-June brings warming temperatures, wildflower bloom, and lower rates before school lets out. September and October deliver mild days, cooler nights, and fall foliage across Blue Mountain and the Lebanon Valley. October weekends near Hersheypark's fall events also fill quickly.
Winter camping is limited. Most private parks close from late October or early November through April. Year-round options exist, but expect reduced amenities, closed pools, and the possibility of snow and ice on secondary roads.

For private campgrounds such as PA Dutch Country RV Resort, Hershey RV and Camping Resort, Pinch Pond Family Campground, the Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA Journey, and Camp Swatara, book directly through each park's website or its listed booking platform. KOA sites can also be reserved through the KOA website or app.
For Pennsylvania state parks such as Swatara and Memorial Lake, reservations open 11 months in advance to noon of the arrival day, released at 12:00 PM Eastern. What to expect on the ground
Sites near Sand Hill range from open, sunny hookups on farmland to shaded wooded pads under mature trees. Resort-style parks typically offer 50-amp service, full hookups, big-rig-friendly pull-throughs, pools, camp stores, and organized weekend programming. Family campgrounds like Camp Swatara and Pinch Pond lean toward tent sites, cabins, and mixed electric/water/sewer RV sites with a heavier focus on kid activities.
Roads into the region are good. I-78, I-81, and US-422 provide straightforward access for larger rigs, though back roads through Amish country are narrow and slow. Cell coverage is generally reliable near towns and thinner in the ridge country to the north. Expect horse-and-buggy traffic in Lancaster County and adjust driving accordingly.
