Campgrounds near Sayre, Pennsylvania
Sayre sits in northern Bradford County along the Susquehanna River, on the Pennsylvania and New York border. The location puts RV travelers within easy reach of two very different camping regions: the rolling hills and private family campgrounds of Pennsylvania's Endless Mountains to the south, and the gorge-and-waterfall state parks of New York's southern Finger Lakes to the north.
Closest to town, Pine Cradle Lake Family Campground in Rome offers a resort-style stop with full hookups, cabins, and a private lake. Gardner Hill Campground, across the state line near Lowman, New York, is smaller and more rustic, useful as a base for exploring Chemung County and the Chemung River valley.
Within about an hour's drive, North - Newtown Battlefield State Park sits above the Chemung River Valley near Elmira, while Robert H Treman State Park and Buttermilk Falls State Park anchor the gorge parks south of Ithaca. Together these give RV travelers a workable mix of full-service private campgrounds and lower-cost state park sites.
Things to do around Sayre
Waterfalls and gorges are the headline draw. At Robert H Treman State Park, trails follow Enfield Glen past twelve waterfalls, including the 115-foot Lucifer Falls, with a stream-fed swimming pool below one of the cascades. Buttermilk Falls State Park, connected by trail to Treman, features a tall cascade dropping toward Cayuga Lake and its own natural swimming pool.
History travelers can walk the ground of the 1779 Battle of Newtown at North - Newtown Battlefield State Park, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, with a hilltop granite monument and views over the Chemung River Valley.
For family days at the campground, Pine Cradle Lake Family Campground offers an 18-acre stocked fishing lake, a heated pool and splash pad, kayaks, pedal carts, and a recreation hall. Ithaca, Cornell University, and the Finger Lakes wine region are all within reasonable driving range for day trips.

Most campgrounds around Sayre run a standard northeastern season. Pine Cradle Lake Family Campground operates from May through mid-October. North - Newtown Battlefield State Park typically opens in mid-May and closes in mid-October. Robert H Treman State Park runs from mid-May into early November, and Gardner Hill Campground stays open on a longer schedule, though callers should confirm ahead in the shoulder seasons.
Summer weekends are the peak, and the gorge parks near Ithaca draw heavy day-use traffic. Fall brings foliage, cooler nights, and thinner crowds, but the natural swimming pools typically close after Labor Day. Water levels in the falls are most dramatic a day or two after rain.
The famous gorge trails at Treman and Buttermilk Falls close through the winter months because of ice and rockfall risk, though rim trails often stay open. Winter camping is limited: expect snow, freezing temperatures, and closed bathhouses at most seasonal parks.
How to book campsites near Sayre
New York state parks, including North - Newtown Battlefield, Robert H Treman, and Buttermilk Falls, use ReserveAmerica. Sites can be booked up to nine months in advance, with a one-night minimum for campsites and a two-night minimum for cabins. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m., and walk-ins are permitted on campsites when space is open. The ReserveAmerica call center is 1-800-456-2267.
Pine Cradle Lake Family Campground and Gardner Hill Campground are private and are booked directly through the operator by phone or website; both take reservations for RV sites, tents, and rental units.
Summer weekends and cabins fill quickly at the Ithaca-area gorge parks. Booking three to six months ahead is a reasonable target for July and August dates, and holiday weekends often sell out at the nine-month opening.
What to expect on arrival
Sites at the state parks tend to be wooded and level, with a fire ring and picnic table, plus bathhouses with showers and dump stations. Robert H Treman State Park offers 72 campsites, including 11 with electric hookups and 14 rustic cabins. North - Newtown Battlefield State Park has 18 campsites able to fit trailers up to 40 feet, plus five rustic cabins. Neither park offers full hookups, so RVers should arrive with fresh water and empty tanks.
Pine Cradle Lake Family Campground is the opposite end of the spectrum: about 200 sites on 73 acres, mostly full hookups with 30/50 amp service, big-rig friendly, plus rental cabins, a swimming pool, and an 18-acre lake.
Cell service can be spotty in the hills, and Pine Cradle notes limited coverage on site. Bring cash for firewood, expect ticks in wooded sites, and note that dogs are allowed at most locations but restricted from swim areas and, at Treman, from the Gorge Trail.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sayre%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Sayre?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Sayre, PA. Pennsylvania does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RVs, even larger Class A motorhomes. You just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy will confirm your ID through the platform during booking, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside the US? An International Driving Permit (IDP) paired with your home license keeps things smooth. Most first-time renters are surprised how straightforward the process is, and your host will walk you through every system before you hit the road.
dmv.pa.gov/Driver-Services/Driver-Licensing/Pages/default.aspxIs every RV rental in Sayre covered by protection and roadside assistance?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Sayre includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Route 220 with confidence. The protection plan covers eligible damage to the RV during your trip, giving you financial peace of mind without arranging separate coverage. During booking, you choose from multiple protection levels so you can pick the coverage that fits your trip and budget, the choice is yours, not the host's. Roadside help is just a phone call away whether you're parked at a campground in Tioga State Forest or driving north toward the New York border.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Sayre RV rental?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy, not individual hosts, so you get consistent, fair terms on every Sayre RV rental. There's a money-back grace period right after booking, and the refund amount depends on how far in advance you cancel before your trip starts. The process is handled directly through RVezy support, not back-and-forth with the host, and if a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds you or helps you rebook. Lock in those summer dates before the Bradford County Fair weekend fills up, you're protected if plans change.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV trip from Sayre?
Yes, a pet-friendly RV rental in Sayre is easy to find. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see listings where dogs (and sometimes cats) are welcome. Many hosts charge a small pet fee or extra cleaning fee, which is clearly listed up front. Once you're on the road, your dog will love the leashed trails at Mount Pisgah State Park, about 20 minutes south of Sayre, and most sites at nearby Tioga State Forest campgrounds welcome pets too. Pack a long lead, a collapsible water bowl, and a towel for muddy paws, and message the host before booking if you have a larger breed.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/MtPisgahStatePark/Pages/default.aspxCan a host deliver and set up the RV for me in Sayre?
Yes, RV delivery in Sayre is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will drive the RV directly to your campground, driveway, or a nearby spot like Hickories Park in Owego or a site at Tioga State Forest, then level it, connect hookups, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees are set by each host and are typically a flat fee or a per-mile rate from the host's location, with some hosts including free delivery within a set radius. Use the Delivery filter to find these listings and message the host with your destination to confirm pricing.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sayre%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow far can I drive from Sayre, and is unlimited mileage available?

The mileage policy is shown clearly on each listing before you book, so plan your route and pick the RV that matches your plans.
parks.ny.gov/parks/watkinsglenWhere are the best campgrounds near Sayre, PA?
Some of the best campgrounds near Sayre give you a true Endless Mountains experience. Mount Pisgah State Park (20 minutes south) offers a quiet 70-acre lake with full RV sites. Tioga State Forest's Colton Point and Leonard Harrison campgrounds (about an hour west) sit on the rim of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. Hills Creek State Park near Wellsboro has lakeside sites with electric hookups, and just over the New York line, Robert H. Treman State Park near Ithaca is a favorite for waterfall lovers. Reserve Pennsylvania state park sites through the DCNR reservation system, and New York sites through Reserve America, ideally 4 to 6 months ahead for summer weekends.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/HillsCreekStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip in Sayre?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Sayre, with June and September standing out as favorites. Summer highs sit in the upper 70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit, nights cool to the 50s and 60s (perfect for sleeping with the windows open), and humidity is lower than along the Mid-Atlantic coast. Fall foliage peaks in early to mid-October when the Endless Mountains turn brilliant red and gold, so book early because leaf-peepers fill campgrounds fast. Winter rentals are limited since temperatures often drop into the teens and snow is common, but a few hosts offer winterized RVs with heated tanks for hardy adventurers.
weather.gov/bgm/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay starting in Sayre?
You'll be in great shape, and Sayre is actually a wonderful place for a first time renting an RV. The roads around the Twin Tiers are mostly wide, well-maintained two-lanes with light traffic, and you can avoid the steepest mountain grades by heading north toward the Finger Lakes instead of south into the Endless Mountains right away. Every host gives you a thorough orientation at pickup — covering propane, water, electric, slide-outs, and driving tips — and you can message them anytime during your trip. Start with a smaller Class C or campervan rental Sayre hosts offer, take your first drive on US Route 220 (flat and straight), and you'll feel confident within an hour.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're never on your own during an RVezy trip, 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every booking as part of the protection plan. One phone call gets help dispatched for flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, or mechanical issues, whether you're parked at a campground or driving down US Route 6 toward the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. Cell coverage is solid along the Susquehanna River corridor and most main routes around Sayre, though it can get spotty deep in Tioga State Forest, so download offline maps before heading into remote areas. Your host is also just a message away for questions about quirks specific to their RV.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Sayre RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, traveling between US states is completely standard for an RV rental in Sayre, PA, and crossing into New York to explore the Finger Lakes is one of the most popular routes (the border is just 5 miles north of town). Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the specific host and their insurance, so message them directly before booking if you're planning to visit places like Niagara Falls, Ontario or the Thousand Islands. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Bring your passport for Canada trips and let your host know your itinerary so they can confirm coverage in advance.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on a Sayre RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier costs to plan for. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 10 to 14 MPG, Class A coaches run 7 to 10 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually a 25 to 35 percent drop from its normal MPG). Gas in the Sayre area typically runs slightly lower than the Pennsylvania state average, and you'll find competitive prices at stations along US Route 220 and Route 17 just over the New York line. For a 5-day, 500-mile motorhome rental Sayre trip in a Class C, budget around $200 to $275 for fuel. Fill up in PA before crossing into New York where gas taxes are higher.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Sayre?
For the best campgrounds near Sayre, book 4 to 6 months ahead for summer weekends and fall foliage season — Pennsylvania state parks open reservations 11 months in advance through the DCNR system, and the most popular sites at places like Leonard Harrison and Hills Creek go fast. Midweek availability is usually wide open even in peak season, so a Tuesday through Thursday family RV trip Sayre families plan is much easier to book last-minute. Private campgrounds like Sunrise Lake Family Campground or Cedar Bluff Family Camp Resort take reservations directly and often have more flexibility. Pro tip: if a state park is full, check the cancellation list two weeks before your trip — spots open up constantly.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Sayre?
Driving around Sayre is refreshingly relaxed compared to most of the Northeast. US Route 220 and Route 17 (which becomes I-86 in New York) are wide, modern highways with gentle grades, and traffic is light outside of the morning commute through town. As you head west toward the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, expect more winding two-lanes with some 6 to 8 percent grades — take them slow in a larger motorhome and use lower gears on descents. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk year-round, and be ready for sudden lake-effect snow squalls if you're traveling from late October through April. Stick to daylight driving when possible and you'll have an easy, scenic time.
511pa.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Sayre?
Campgrounds in the Sayre region offer a range of options to fit any comfort level. Pennsylvania state parks like Mount Pisgah and Hills Creek have electric hookups (20/30/50 amp), potable water fill stations, and dump stations — but no individual sewer hookups at most sites. Private parks like Cedar Bluff Family Camp Resort offer full hookups including sewer, plus Wi-Fi, laundry, and pools. You can dump tanks for free at most state park dump stations during your stay, or at the Sayre area's Wysox truck stop for a small fee in a pinch. Fill fresh water before leaving the campground, and pack a 25-foot drinking-water hose since some spigots sit far from the pad.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/WhatToDo/Camping/Pages/default.aspxWhat's included inside a typical Sayre RV rental?
Most RVs on RVezy in the Sayre area come fully equipped for a comfortable trip. You can expect a queen or king bed, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and sink, an indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control (furnace and air conditioning), and dining seating that converts to extra sleeping space. Larger Class C and Class A motorhomes typically sleep 4 to 8 with bunks and a convertible dinette, and many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and a generator for boondocking. Wi-Fi is hit or miss, so plan to use your phone hotspot. Every passenger needs a seatbelt while driving, so check the listed sleeps-and-seats count to match your group size.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options do Sayre RV hosts offer?
Sayre hosts offer plenty of add-ons to make your RV rental Pennsylvania trip easier. Common extras include linen and bedding packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits with pots and dishes ($25 to $50), camp chairs and outdoor rugs ($15 to $30), generators or extra propane, bike racks, and even kayak rentals from some hosts. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a meeting spot in Sayre or nearby Athens, with a 30 to 60 minute orientation included at no charge. Mileage policies vary — many hosts include 100 free miles per night, while some offer unlimited miles for an upfront fee. All add-on prices and mileage terms are shown clearly on each listing before you book.
visitpa.com/things-to-doHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy directly using a credit or debit card, never in cash to the host. Your total covers the nightly rate, fees, your chosen protection plan, and any add-ons. Hosts also set a refundable security deposit that's pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup, not actually charged. As long as you return the RV in the same condition (clean, undamaged, tanks emptied if required), the hold is released after your trip ends. To avoid surprises, take time-stamped photos at pickup and dropoff, and follow the host's checklist for fueling and dumping tanks.
