Camping near Schoeneck, Pennsylvania
Schoeneck is a small village in northern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, tucked into the rolling farmland of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. It sits within easy driving distance of the borough of Denver, Ephrata, and Reamstown, and puts RV travelers inside a dense cluster of family-run campgrounds that cater primarily to short-stay and seasonal campers.
The closest options are compact and family-oriented rather than large public parks. Hickory Run Family Camping Resort in Denver has 211 sites, accepts big rigs up to 65 feet, and offers 24 pull-throughs, 87 full hookups, 122 electric-water hookups, and 20/30/50 amp service, along with tent-only sites, showers, a dump station, laundry, and a pool. Nearby, Cocalico Creek Campground sits on Cocalico Road in Denver and focuses on seasonal camping with electrical hookups, a bathhouse, and family amenities.
Starlite Camping Resort, Dutch Cousin Campground, and Woodcrest Retreat round out the immediate area, giving travelers a mix of wooded resort-style stays, budget tent-friendly options, and retreat-style camping within a short drive of Schoeneck.
Things to do around Schoeneck
The area is built for family day trips. Hersheypark sits roughly 30 miles from Schoeneck in Hershey and features roller coasters and chocolate-themed attractions, while Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster County is designed for families with young children. Lancaster Central Market, one of the oldest continuously operating farmers markets in the United States, offers fresh produce, meats, and local specialties.
On-site recreation is a real draw at the closest campgrounds. Recreation options at Hickory Run include fishing, hiking trails, and kayaking, with picnic tables and fire rings at sites, plus various activities hosted throughout the season for all ages. Starlite, Dutch Cousin, and Woodcrest Retreat similarly emphasize pools, playgrounds, and weekend programming that appeal to families with kids.

Most private campgrounds in this corner of Lancaster County run a spring-to-fall season rather than year-round. Hickory Run Family Camping Resort is typically open April 1 through November 1, and Cocalico Creek focuses on seasonal camping with a spring-to-fall window and winter storage. Woodcrest Retreat also concentrates its RV, cabin, and bunkhouse operations in the warmer months.
Summer weekends are the busiest window, driven by pool use, amusement-park day trips, and family-friendly events. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, weekend and holiday-weekend minimum stays are common at family resorts in the area. Halloween and themed weekends at these resorts also fill quickly with repeat guests.
Fall is the visual peak in Lancaster County, with October color and active farm markets. Winter travel is limited: many campgrounds are closed, and the region sees cold temperatures with periodic snowfall.

How to book campgrounds near Schoeneck
Most campgrounds in this cluster are privately owned and booked directly with the operator, not through a state or federal reservation system. Availability, deposits, and cancellation rules are set by each property, so travelers should check the campground's own website or call ahead.
Starlite Camping Resort typically takes reservations by phone, and specific site requests can be submitted with ranked choices. Cocalico Creek has historically been cash or check only on site, which is worth planning for. For family resorts like Hickory Run, holiday weekends, Halloween weekends, and mid-summer Saturdays sell out earliest, so booking several weeks in advance is recommended. Travelers delivering an RV to a site should confirm rig-length limits, hookup type, and check-in windows when reserving.
What to expect at campgrounds near Schoeneck
Expect small to mid-sized private campgrounds with a strong seasonal-camper base rather than large public parks. Sites are generally wooded or partly shaded, and most properties offer some mix of water, electric, and sewer hookups. Hickory Run provides tables, grills, water, toilets, showers, a dump station, RV storage, laundry, firewood, pet-friendly policies, a pool, and a playground.
Site quality can vary within a single campground. At Hickory Run, campers note significant differences in drainage and privacy, with sites 100-116 experiencing runoff issues during rain, while elevated locations near the country store fare better. Asking for a site recommendation when booking pays off.
Most properties are pet-friendly with leash rules, cater to families, and lean on pools, playgrounds, and weekend activities rather than backcountry access. Cell coverage is generally solid across the area, but on-site Wi-Fi quality varies by property.

No commercial driver's license or special RV endorsement is needed for personal-use motorhomes in Pennsylvania. Visiting from abroad? Yes, peace of mind is built into every booking. Every RV rental in Schoeneck, PA includes an RVezy renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered for most damages to the vehicle during your trip. At checkout you choose from different protection plan levels (Standard, Premium, or Peace of Mind), letting you select the coverage that matches your comfort level. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my plans change?
Booking is genuinely low-risk. RVezy (not the individual host) sets a single, consistent cancellation policy that applies to every rental in Schoeneck, and it includes a full money-back grace period right after booking, so if life happens within those first hours, you are protected. Beyond that, refund amounts depend on how far ahead of your trip you cancel and whether unusual circumstances (like a declared natural disaster) apply. You will see the exact terms tied to your reservation before you confirm payment. Book early to lock in the best motorhome rental in Schoeneck and your prime Lancaster County campground date, knowing flexibility is baked into the platform.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on my Schoeneck RV trip?
Yes, four-legged co-pilots are very welcome. Finding a pet-friendly RV rental in Schoeneck is easy: toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see hosts who happily welcome dogs (and often cats too). Lancaster County is a great region for dog owners, with leashed pups allowed on most trails at nearby Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area and at designated pet-friendly sites in many private campgrounds, including Sun Outdoors Lancaster and Shady Maple Campground. Pro tip: bring vaccination records, since some campgrounds ask at check-in, and pack a long lead so your pup can lounge outside the RV while you grill dinner.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Schoeneck%2C%20PennsylvaniaCan the RV be delivered to my campground or home in Schoeneck?
Yes, and it is the easiest way to start a stress-free trip. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery in Schoeneck and across Lancaster County, meaning they will drive the rig to your driveway or campground site, then set up the awning, level the unit, hook up utilities, and walk you through every system. Just use the Delivery filter when searching. This is a game-changer if it is your first time renting an RV or if you would rather skip towing through Ephrata. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm delivery distance fees, which are usually a flat rate within 25 to 50 miles.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Schoeneck%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow does mileage work, and how far can I realistically travel?
Mileage is flexible and you choose what fits your trip. Each host sets their own daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day), and many list RV rental with unlimited mileage if you are planning a longer Pennsylvania loop. From Schoeneck you can comfortably reach Hersheypark in about 45 minutes, Gettysburg National Military Park in roughly 1 hour 30 minutes, Philadelphia in about 1 hour 30 minutes, the Poconos in around 2 hours, and Washington D.C. in about 2 hours 45 minutes. Pro tip: use the mileage filter on RVezy to compare options, and if you are planning an RV road trip from Schoeneck up to Niagara Falls (about 5 hours 30 minutes), unlimited mileage easily pays for itself.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Schoeneck%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhere should I stay with my RV near Schoeneck?
You have great options in this corner of Lancaster County. Some of the best campgrounds near Schoeneck include Sun Outdoors Lancaster (about 20 minutes south, with a pool and shuttle to attractions), Shady Maple Campground in East Earl (about 15 minutes east, near the famous smorgasbord), and Old Mill Stream Campground in Lancaster (next to Dutch Wonderland). For a state park feel, French Creek State Park is about 40 minutes east with wooded sites and lake swimming. Pro tip: reserve summer weekends 3 to 6 months out through each park's reservation system to lock in your favorite loop.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/FrenchCreekStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time to visit Schoeneck in an RV?
Late spring and fall are the sweet spots here. From mid-April through early June, daytime highs in Lancaster County sit around 65 to 78 degrees F with lower humidity and blooming farmland views, perfect for RV camping in Schoeneck. September and October bring crisp 55 to 72 degree F days, golden harvest scenes, and the Ephrata Fair (late September). July and August are warm and humid (often 82 to 90 degrees F), great for pool campgrounds but busier. Winters dip to 20 to 40 degrees F with occasional snow, ideal if you want a quiet getaway in a winterized rig. Pro tip: target mid-October when fall foliage peaks across the Welsh Mountains and campgrounds are calmer.
weather.gov/ctp/I have never rented an RV before. Is it really doable?
Totally doable, and a lot of fun. First time renting an RV in Schoeneck is one of the easier places to start: roads through West Cocalico Township and Lancaster County are generally flat, wide, and well-marked, with farm stands more common than tight turns. Every RVezy host gives you a personal walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, water, slide-outs, generator, and dump procedures, and you can message them anytime during your trip. RVezy support is also available if you need help. Pro tip: do a short shakedown drive on Route 272 or Route 322 before heading out on the PA Turnpike, and you will feel confident in about 20 minutes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I have a breakdown or flat tire?
You are never stranded. Every RV rental in Schoeneck, PA includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the RVezy protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 897, a dead battery at a campground, or a lockout in Lititz is handled with one quick call. The dispatch team will send a local provider to you, and Ephrata and Reading being close by helps keep response times reasonable in this part of Lancaster County. Your host is also a great first contact for quick questions about quirks of their specific rig. Pro tip: snap a photo of the roadside assistance number at pickup so it is instantly accessible during your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV on a longer road trip from Schoeneck?
Absolutely, Schoeneck is a fantastic launchpad. Popular RV road trips from Schoeneck include heading south to Gettysburg and Shenandoah National Park (about 4 hours), east to the Jersey Shore at Cape May (about 3 hours 15 minutes), north to the Finger Lakes in New York (about 4 hours 30 minutes), or west to Pittsburgh and Ohiopyle State Park (about 4 hours 30 minutes). Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed by some hosts (message them directly before booking), but travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: filter for unlimited mileage on RVezy if you are planning a multi-state loop so you can wander freely.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel?
Fuel is one of your biggest variables, but it is predictable. Most Class C motorhomes around Schoeneck get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, campervans get 14 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run around $3.20 to $3.80 per gallon for regular unleaded, with diesel a bit higher. A 300-mile loop from Schoeneck to Gettysburg and back in a Class C would cost roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at Wawa or Sheetz off Route 222 in Ephrata before hitting the PA Turnpike, since turnpike service plazas often run higher per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground?
Booking early is your secret weapon. For summer weekends (Memorial Day through Labor Day) and fall foliage weekends in October, reserve 3 to 6 months ahead at popular spots like Sun Outdoors Lancaster, Hersheypark Camping Resort, and French Creek State Park. Pennsylvania state park campsites near Schoeneck can be booked up to 11 months in advance through the official PA DCNR reservation system, and they book fast. Midweek stays in spring or after Labor Day often have same-week openings. Pro tip: if Old Mill Stream Campground near Dutch Wonderland is full, check Country Acres Campground in Gordonville as a charming, less-crowded backup.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Reservations/Pages/default.aspxWhat are the local roads like for driving an RV?
Driving here is one of the gentler RV experiences on the East Coast. Schoeneck sits just off Route 272 and Route 897, both rural two-lanes that handle big rigs well, and Interstate 76 (the PA Turnpike) is just minutes away with broad lanes and clear signage. Watch for horse-drawn Amish buggies on side roads in eastern Lancaster County (slow down, give them room), occasional low covered bridges on backroads (use your GPS in RV or truck mode), and harvest-season tractor traffic in October. Pro tip: avoid driving through downtown Ephrata or Lititz in larger Class A motorhomes; loop around on Route 322 or Route 222 for a smoother ride.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Schoeneck?
You will find well-equipped campgrounds across the board. Most parks near Schoeneck offer 30 and 50 amp electric, potable water spigots, sewer hookups (or a central dump station), hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Sun Outdoors Lancaster has a pool, mini-golf, and a snack bar; Shady Maple has full hookups and is steps from the legendary smorgasbord; Old Mill Stream offers shuttle access to Dutch Wonderland. Public dump stations are easy to find, including at French Creek State Park. Fresh water fills are standard at most campground entrances. Pro tip: ask your host if their RV includes a freshwater hose and sewer kit (most do), so you arrive ready to hook up.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/FrenchCreekStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhat is typically included inside the RV?
You will be impressed by how move-in ready these rigs are. Most RVs available for rent in Schoeneck come fully equipped: real beds with linens (often a queen plus a convertible dinette and bunks), a kitchen with fridge, stovetop, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning and furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and an awning for shaded afternoons. Class C and Class A motorhomes often include onboard generators, while campervans typically have solar and lithium batteries. Pro tip: check the listing photos and amenities list carefully, and message the host if you need specifics like a booster seat anchor or a CPAP-friendly outlet near the bed.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Schoeneck%2C%20PennsylvaniaAre there add-ons or extras I can request?
Yes, and they make a great trip even better. Popular RVezy add-ons in Schoeneck include bike racks, kayaks or paddleboards (perfect for Speedwell Forge Lake nearby), portable generators, propane fire pits, outdoor camp kitchens, kids bedding bundles, and pre-stocked kitchen kits. Hosts set their own pricing for these extras, plus their own mileage and generator-hour policies, all visible on the listing. Pickup and drop-off are usually at the host's home address in or near Schoeneck, Ephrata, or Denver, PA, and many offer delivery within 15 to 25 miles. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a propane refill with your booking, especially if it is your first RV trip; the convenience is worth it.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Schoeneck%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is seamless and entirely handled through RVezy, with no cash or side transactions with the host. When you book your RV rental in Schoeneck, PA, your card is charged securely through the platform, and a refundable security deposit is held separately for your trip. After drop-off, once the host confirms the RV is returned on time, refueled, and in the same condition as pickup, your deposit is released, usually within a few days. To keep things smooth: take photos at pickup and drop-off, empty the tanks if required, and tidy up before return. Pro tip: review the host's checkout checklist the day before to avoid surprises and protect your deposit.
