Campgrounds near Shenandoah Heights, Pennsylvania
Shenandoah Heights sits in Schuylkill County in the anthracite coal region of eastern Pennsylvania, with the forested ridges of Locust Mountain and the Appalachian foothills within a short drive. The area gives RV renters access to a mix of Pennsylvania state park camping and privately run family campgrounds, most within a 15 to 30 minute drive of town.
The closest public option is Locust Lake State Park, which sits on the side of Locust Mountain and centers on a 52-acre lake. The campground has 282 sites divided into two areas, with tenting on the north side of the lake and trailer facilities on the south side. Nearby private parks include Red Ridge Lake Campgrounds, Lakewood Park Campground, Rosemount Camping Resort, and Springbrook Family Campground.
Most sites in the area are wooded, and terrain around the ridges means many pads sit on gentle slopes. The region works well for shorter weekend loops from Philadelphia, Allentown, Harrisburg, and the Lehigh Valley.
Things to do near Shenandoah Heights
At Locust Lake State Park, both camping areas are within easy access to swimming, boating, fishing, and hiking. A small sand beach permits swimming, the lake receives seasonal trout stocking, multiple hiking trails connect to neighboring Tuscarora State Park, and the paved lake loop serves both pedestrians and cyclists.
Beyond the state park, day trips reach the coal-mining heritage sites in Ashland and Shenandoah, the Appalachian Trail crossings near Port Clinton, and Hawk Mountain Sanctuary for raptor viewing in fall. Private campgrounds such as Lakewood Park Campground, Rosemount Camping Resort, and Springbrook Family Campground typically add pool access, weekend activities, and playgrounds that suit families traveling with kids.
