RV camping near Sierra View, Pennsylvania
Sierra View sits in Monroe County in the Pocono Mountains, a forested plateau in northeastern Pennsylvania roughly two hours from New York City and Philadelphia. The area is a long-established RV destination built around lakes, state parks, and Pocono Raceway, with private campgrounds concentrated along the Route 115, Route 940, and Interstate 80 corridors.
RV travelers based near Sierra View typically choose between full-service family resorts and lower-density wooded parks. Silver Valley Campsites and Peaceful Woodlands Family Campground are among the closer options, while Four Seasons Campgrounds and Scotrun RV Resort sit within a short drive and offer full hookups suited to larger rigs. Pocono Raceway Campground, in nearby Long Pond, provides infield and trackside sites tied to NASCAR weekends.
Public-land camping is also close at hand. Hickory Run State Park covers 15,990 acres in Carbon County and lies in the western foothills of the Pocono Mountains, with over 40 miles of hiking trails, three state park natural areas, miles of trout streams, and Boulder Field, a National Natural Landmark. Tobyhanna State Park adds lakefront camping a short drive north.
Things to do around Sierra View
The Poconos are built for outdoor days. Hikers can tackle trails at Hickory Run and Tobyhanna State Parks, and the Lehigh Gorge rail-trail is popular for cycling. Tobyhanna State Park covers 5,440 acres and includes the 170-acre Tobyhanna Lake, which supports swimming, boating, and fishing in warmer months. Whitewater rafting on the Lehigh River runs on scheduled dam releases from spring through fall.
Families often pair camping with waterparks at Kalahari and Great Wolf Lodge, or with day trips to Jim Thorpe for the scenic railway and historic downtown. Motorsports fans time trips to Pocono Raceway in Long Pond for NASCAR Cup Series race weekends.
Winter brings downhill and cross-country skiing at Camelback, Big Boulder, and Jack Frost, plus snowmobile trails on state forest and state park land.

The Poconos have four distinct seasons. The region has a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold, snowy winters, and precipitation is spread fairly evenly through the year, with summer thunderstorms adding to totals. Summer is peak RV season, and holiday weekends fill private parks well in advance.
Spring arrives late at this elevation. State-park campgrounds typically open in early to mid-spring and remain accessible through late fall, though nights stay cold into May. Fall foliage usually peaks from early to mid-October and drives a second surge in bookings, especially on weekends.
Winter operations vary widely. Many private campgrounds close for the season after late fall or shift to seasonal-only sites, while state parks keep limited loops open for hunters and winter campers. Winter trips should target parks that explicitly list year-round RV sites, since some private resorts near the raceway close entirely once the racing season ends.

This was our family’s first time renting an RV after years of tent camping, and it was a great experience overall. Michael was an excellent host. He delivered the RV to our campsite, had everything set up and ready to go, and took the time to explain how everything worked. As first-time RV renters, that made the experience stress-free and much less intimidating. The RV itself was exactly what we needed for our family of four. It was spacious enough to sleep comfortably, kept us cool during the hot weather, kept us dry through the rain, and everything worked as expected. We spent most of our time outdoors and primarily used the RV for sleeping, and it was perfect for that. The only reason I’m mentioning this is so future renters know what to expect. When we first arrived, there was a noticeable odor inside the RV. As the trip went on, it seemed to be coming from the bathroom/holding tank area. When I mentioned it to Michael at pickup, he was very open about it and explained that it’s something he has to deep clean every few rentals to eliminate the smell. I appreciated his honesty, but since it’s a known issue rather than a one-time occurrence, I think it’s fair for future renters to be aware of it. Other than that, we had a fantastic experience. Michael was friendly, responsive, and easy to work with, and I wouldn’t hesitate to rent from him again

How to book campgrounds near Sierra View
Private parks in the area, including Silver Valley Campsites, Peaceful Woodlands Family Campground, Four Seasons Campgrounds, and Scotrun RV Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends, July 4, and fall-foliage weekends book earliest, and many resorts require multi-night minimums in peak season.
State-park sites use the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system, which allows bookings up to 11 months in advance and opens new dates at noon Eastern Time. Both Hickory Run and Tobyhanna campsite loops can be reserved for same-day arrival online, while cabins and cottages must be booked at least three days ahead. Reservations can also be made by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), from 7 A.M. to 5 P.M., Monday to Saturday.
Race-weekend camping at Pocono Raceway is sold separately from regular campground stays and requires guest passes for each occupant.
What to expect on-site
Private RV parks in the Sierra View area generally offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), dump stations, laundry, pools, and family activity programs on summer weekends. Sites range from open pull-throughs suited to larger Class A rigs to wooded back-in sites better for smaller trailers and vans. Cell coverage is patchy in wooded valleys, and some parks provide Wi-Fi at central buildings only.
State parks are more rustic. Expect gravel or paved pads, flush or vault toilets depending on the loop, and a mix of non-electric, electric, and full-hookup sites. Alcohol is prohibited in all Pennsylvania state parks, and the Poconos are black bear country, so campers must store food, toiletries, and cooking supplies securely.
Black flies and mosquitoes are active in late spring and early summer, so pack repellent.

Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for a Sierra View RV trip, with the absolute peak being late September into mid-October when Pocono fall foliage explodes into reds and golds. Summer (June to August) brings warm days in the high 70s to mid-80s°F and cool 60°F nights, perfect for lake swims at Beltzville. Spring (April to May) is mild and green with daytime highs in the 55 to 70°F range. Fall weekends sell out fast thanks to foliage chasers, so book 2 to 3 months ahead. Winter RVing is possible too if you choose a four-season rental, with January lows often dipping into the teens.
weather.gov/ctp/Can I rent an RV in Sierra View in winter or for ski trips?
Yes, a winter motorhome rental in Sierra View is one of the best ways to experience the Poconos during ski season. You are within roughly 15 to 30 minutes of Camelback Mountain, Big Boulder, Jack Frost, and Blue Mountain Resort, so an RV near the slopes can save on lodging. Look for listings labeled four-season or winter-ready, which include heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and propane furnaces. Plan to stay at a campground with full hookups that remains open in winter. Pro tip: ask the host about skirting and tank heaters before booking, and confirm your route is plowed before heading out.
skipa.com/I have never driven an RV. Will I be okay for my first time renting an RV in Sierra View?
You have got this, and you will not be left to figure it out alone. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, leveling, slide-outs, water, propane, the generator, and dumping tanks. For first time renting an RV around Sierra View, choose a smaller Class C motorhome or a 20 to 25-foot travel trailer that is easier to maneuver on winding routes like PA-115 and PA-903. Even better, book delivery so the host sets everything up at your campsite. You can message your host any time before pickup with questions, and RVezy support plus 24/7 roadside assistance are just a phone call away during your trip.

Head 25 miles south to Jim Thorpe for Victorian streets and Lehigh Gorge whitewater, then continue 60 miles to Hershey for chocolate and amusement park fun. Drive 30 miles east to the Delaware Water Gap for cliffside hikes, or 90 miles southeast for an NYC skyline RV stay at Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City. Heading north, Scranton (45 miles), the Finger Lakes (180 miles), and Niagara Falls (280 miles) make a stellar weeklong loop. visitpa.com/region/pocono-mountainsWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for my Sierra View RV rental?
Budgeting fuel is easier than you'd think. Most Class C motorhomes around Sierra View get 8 to 12 mpg on gas, Class A motorhomes 6 to 10 mpg, campervans 16 to 20 mpg, and trucks towing travel trailers around 10 to 14 mpg. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a bit above the national average due to state fuel taxes, so a recent rule of thumb has been around $3.30 to $3.70 per gallon at stations along I-80 and Route 209. For a typical 3-night trip with 250 miles driven in a Class C, plan on roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Fill up in Brodheadsville or Effort, where prices tend to be lower than at Pocono tourist exits.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Sierra View?
Booking early pays off in the Poconos. Pennsylvania state parks like Hickory Run, Beltzville, and Promised Land accept reservations up to 11 months in advance through the official PA state parks reservation system, and prime summer and fall foliage weekends fill quickly. Private campgrounds (Mountain Vista, Otter Lake, Silver Valley) typically book 3 to 4 months ahead for July and August weekends. Midweek stays are far easier to secure and often discounted. Pro tip: if you strike out on a weekend at Hickory Run, check cancellations every Sunday evening when planners drop sites. If campsites are full, ask your RVezy host about driveway-stay options around Sierra View.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Sierra View, PA?
Driving an RV around Sierra View is mostly relaxing, with a few mountain quirks worth knowing. I-80 runs east-west just minutes north and is the easiest big-rig route, while PA-115, PA-903, and PA-209 offer scenic but winding climbs through forested ridges around 1,900 feet of elevation. Watch for sudden afternoon thunderstorms in summer, deer at dawn and dusk year-round, and icy patches November through March on shaded curves. Avoid steep, narrow side roads like Route 534 through Hickory Run with rigs over 30 feet if you're a beginner. Pro tip: download offline maps; cell service drops in pockets between Blakeslee and Long Pond.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities do Sierra View campgrounds offer, and where can I dump tanks or fill water?

Most private Pocono campgrounds (Mountain Vista, Otter Lake, Silver Valley, Four Seasons) offer full hookups: 30/50-amp electric, fresh water, sewer, plus Wi-Fi, pools, laundry, and camp stores. State parks like Hickory Run have electric and water hookups in select loops, with dump stations and potable water fill on-site. If you're boondocking or staying somewhere without sewer, you can dump at Hickory Run's day-use dump station, Mountain Vista (for a small fee), or the Flying J in Bartonsville off I-80. Always carry a 25-foot fresh water hose and a sewer hose support; some sites are spread out.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/HickoryRunStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhat's included inside a typical Sierra View RV rental?

Expect a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette/bunks (sleeping 4 to 8), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control with furnace and roof AC, and seatbelts for travel passengers. Many hosts include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and camp chairs. Generators are common on Class A and C motorhomes for off-grid power. Wi-Fi via mobile hotspot is sometimes offered as an add-on. Check each listing's amenities list, and message the host if you need specifics like a CPAP-friendly outlet or a kid-safe bunk setup.
rvia.org/What add-ons can I get, and how do pickup and drop-off work?
Hosts in Sierra View make trip prep painless with handy add-ons. Common extras include linens and towel packs ($25 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), generators, bikes, kayaks, propane fire pits, and pet packages. Delivery and setup is often the most popular option for a stress-free start. Pickup typically happens at the host's home in nearby Brodheadsville, Effort, Blakeslee, or Long Pond, with a 45 to 60-minute walkthrough. Drop-off usually requires the RV returned with a full fuel tank, empty waste tanks, and a tidy interior to avoid cleaning fees. Confirm pickup time and drop-off location through the RVezy chat a few days before your trip.
visitpa.com/region/pocono-mountainsHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy with a credit or debit card, never in cash directly to the host. You typically pay a portion at booking and the balance closer to your trip start date, all itemized so you see exactly what you are paying for. The refundable security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is placed as a temporary hold around pickup time, then released after drop-off assuming no damage or extra cleaning. To keep things smooth, do a video walkaround at pickup and drop-off, return on time with a full fuel tank, and empty the tanks at the campground dump station.
