Campgrounds near Slatington, Pennsylvania
Slatington sits in the Lehigh Valley at the base of Blue Mountain, where the Appalachian Trail crosses the Lehigh Gap. The town works well as an RV base for the southern Poconos, Carbon County, and the northern Lehigh Valley, with a mix of private RV parks and state park campgrounds within a short drive.
Private options close to town include Lizard Creek Campground, Pocono Point RV & Campground, Stoneybrook RV Resort, Don Laine Campground, and the Allentown KOA Journey. These properties generally offer full or partial hookups, showers, and family amenities suitable for travel trailers and motorhomes.
For public land camping, the 15,990-acre Hickory Run State Park in Carbon County lies in the western foothills of the Pocono Mountains, with over 40 miles of hiking trails, three state park natural areas, miles of trout streams, and the Boulder Field National Natural Landmark. Beltzville State Park covers 3,002 acres in the southern foothills of the Poconos, with Pohopoco Creek feeding the 949-acre Beltzville Lake and a popular sand beach, but it is day-use only with no overnight camping inside the park. Lehigh Gorge State Park is also nearby for rail-trail biking and whitewater access.
Things to do near Slatington
The Lehigh Gap and Blue Mountain ridge are the main draws for hikers, with the Appalachian Trail running directly through the area. Lehigh Gorge State Park is a strong pick for whitewater rafting and biking along the Lehigh Gorge Trail.
Families often build day trips around water and rock features. Beltzville State Park features a large lake for boating and fishing plus a guarded sand beach open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and Hickory Run offers swimming at Sand Spring Lake, Boulder Field, and Hawk Falls, with winter cross-country skiing and snowmobiling on designated trails. Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton runs skiing in winter and lift-served mountain biking, disc golf, and zip lines in warmer months. The historic town of Jim Thorpe is a common day-trip stop for shops, restaurants, and rail rides.

The camping season around Slatington runs primarily from mid-spring through late fall. At Hickory Run State Park, modern facilities are open from the second Friday in April through the third Sunday in October, while rustic sites continue until mid-December. Beltzville State Park is a day-use park with no overnight camping, so overnight visitors rely on nearby private campgrounds and Hickory Run for public options. Most private RV parks in the Lehigh Valley operate on a roughly April to October schedule, with a few staying open longer.
Summer weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day are the busiest stretch. State park sites at Hickory Run frequently sell out weeks ahead, and lakefront and beach areas draw heavy day-use traffic. Two-night minimum stays generally apply to summer weekend reservations at Pennsylvania state parks.
Fall brings strong foliage on the ridges and cooler nights, with the peak color window typically running from late September through mid-October. Winter camping is possible at select private parks and in the rustic loops at Hickory Run, but expect snow, ice, and limited amenities.

Great weekend getaway!
Kami A. - Nov 2024
Great vehicle and friendly owners. This compact camper has a lot of creature comforts while allowing one to maneuver and park in regular parking lots. The van is really easy to drive and handles really nice. The beds were comfortable and IMO accommodate 2 adults (top bed) and 1 adult or 2 kids in the lower bed. We were able to use the bike rack, too, and that worked great for a road bike and mountain bike (I think 2 mountain bikes might not fit unless the handle bars were turned on 1 of them). We didn't use the, generator, heater, hot water, shower, sink, microwave or toilet so I can't comment on them but I wish we rented it longer so we could've taken advantage of all this van has to offer. We would absolutely rent again.

How to book campgrounds near Slatington
Pennsylvania state parks use a single reservation system. Campground, cabin, and day-use reservations can be made online through the Pennsylvania State Parks portal on ReserveAmerica, or by calling 888-PA-PARKS. Most campsites can be reserved up to 11 months in advance, with the daily reservation window opening at noon Eastern Time, and a limited number of sites remain first-come, first-served.
For Hickory Run specifically, reservations must be made at least 3 days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months out. Private campgrounds such as the Allentown KOA Journey, Pocono Point RV & Campground, Stoneybrook RV Resort, Lizard Creek Campground, and Don Laine Campground each use their own booking systems on their operator websites, and holiday weekends often require longer minimum stays. Book summer holidays and October foliage weekends as early as possible.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain in the Slatington area is rocky and heavily wooded, with campgrounds set along creek beds, ridges, and lakeshores. The rocky ground that gave Pennsylvania its Appalachian Trail nickname can make tent staking difficult at some sites, so hard-sided RVs and trailers are often the more comfortable option.
Bears are active in the Poconos foothills. Overnight guests at Hickory Run are required to store all food and scented items such as toothpaste, deodorant, and dish soap in their vehicle while away from the site, and trash must go in bear-proof dumpsters, including when leaving the site for even a short period. Similar practices are wise across the region.
Firewood rules are strict. Bringing firewood into Pennsylvania state parks from outside the area is discouraged to limit the spread of pests, campers should buy or gather local firewood, and any remaining wood should be burned before departure. Expect variable cell service in the state parks and plan for cooler nights than the valley floor suggests.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Slatington, PA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Slatington, PA?
RV rental in Slatington is a great value compared to renting in New York City or Philadelphia. Travel trailers typically run $80 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range $175 to $275, and Class A coaches sit around $250 to $400. For cheap RV rental Slatington options, look at travel trailers paired with a delivery package so you skip towing fees. Booking midweek in May or September often saves you 20 to 30 percent versus peak July weekends near Beltzville State Park. Pro tip: use the price filter on RVezy and message hosts about multi-night discounts. Many Lehigh Valley owners offer a discount when you book five or more nights.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Slatington,PennsylvaniaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Slatington?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Slatington. Pennsylvania does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) for any RV under 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, which covers nearly every motorhome and trailer on RVezy. Approved renters are generally 25 or older and must complete a quick ID verification through the platform when you book. Visiting from outside the United States? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most first-timers are surprised how straightforward it is, and your host will walk you through every system at pickup.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental in Slatington covered by protection if something goes wrong?
Yes, peace of mind is built into every RV rental Slatington PA booking. Every trip on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on Route 873 or a dead battery at Lehigh Gap won't derail your trip. You choose your protection level during checkout, and the plan provides financial protection for covered damage to the RV so you can drive the Blue Mountain switchbacks with more confidence. Coverage details vary by plan tier. Pro tip: consider a higher protection tier if you're heading into the Poconos where wildlife crossings are common after dusk.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Slatington RV trip?
Booking is low-risk on RVezy. The cancellation policy is set by RVezy at the platform level (not by individual hosts), and every booking includes a money-back grace period right after you reserve so you have breathing room to confirm plans. Refund amounts after that depend on how far out you cancel, and major weather events like a Nor'easter rolling through the Lehigh Valley are handled through RVezy support. Because cancellation terms are platform-wide, you won't see a host-specific policy on the listing. Pro tip: book early for fall foliage week in mid-October around Slatington, those dates sell out fast.

Beltzville State Park, about 20 minutes north, permits leashed pets in designated areas. Pro tip: pack a towel for Lehigh River mud, your host will thank you at return.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Pages/Pets.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Slatington?
Yes, RV delivery Slatington is one of the most popular options on the platform, especially for first-time renters. Many local hosts will tow or drive the RV directly to your campsite, driveway, or event location, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means you can rent an RV in Slatington without ever driving it yourself, which is ideal for visitors flying into Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) just south of town. Filter for Delivery on RVezy to see who offers it. Pro tip: ask about delivery to Hickory Run State Park or Mauch Chunk Lake Park, both within easy reach.

Pro tip: filter by Unlimited Mileage on RVezy before booking a multi-state RV road trip from Slatington, it can pay for itself by the second day.

dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/BeltzvilleStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time to visit Slatington in an RV?
Late April through mid-October is your sweet spot, with the peak being mid-September to mid-October for Pocono fall foliage, when the Kittatinny Ridge above Slatington turns brilliant orange and red. Summer highs typically average in the low to mid 80s Fahrenheit with humid afternoons, and overnight lows drop comfortably into the 60s. Spring brings wildflowers along the D&L Trail and fewer crowds. Winter rentals are available too: think snowy hikes at Lehigh Gap and a quiet cabin-on-wheels vibe, just book a winterized RV with a furnace. Pro tip: mid-week in early October often beats peak weekends with smaller crowds and the same color show, ideal for a Slatington RV trip.
weather.gov/phi/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
Yes, you'll be in great hands, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on orientation at pickup: they show you how to operate the slide-outs, water pump, propane, generator, and waste system, and many send a written or video cheat sheet to your phone. You can message your host before, during, and after the trip with questions, and RVezy customer support is available 24/7. For Slatington specifically, the local roads (Routes 248, 873, and 145) are wide, well-marked, and far less stressful than driving in Philadelphia. Pro tip: do a parking lot practice loop before heading to your campground.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I break down during my Slatington RV trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so whether you've got a flat on the Northeast Extension of I-476, an electrical hiccup at Hickory Run, or a slide-out that won't retract at Beltzville, one call dispatches help. Your host is also a quick text away and often knows the nearest reliable mechanic, since they live in the area. Slatington sits close to full-service RV shops in Allentown and Lehighton, so parts and repairs are rarely far. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's number in your phone before you leave the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the most popular RV road trips from Slatington?

Top routes: head about 30 minutes north to Jim Thorpe and the Lehigh Gorge for whitewater country, continue roughly an hour into the Pocono Mountains for Lake Wallenpaupack, swing about 2 hours east to the Jersey Shore, or drive about 3 hours south to Gettysburg and Hershey for a family loop. Crossing into New York's Catskills is roughly 2.5 hours and allowed on RVezy. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals, but New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Delaware are all permitted. visitpa.com/regions/pocono-mountainsWhat kind of fuel mileage and budget should I expect?

Pennsylvania gasoline prices vary in the Lehigh Valley, and diesel typically runs a bit higher. For a 4-night trip covering 300 miles you're often looking at $90 to $140 in fuel. Add roughly $35 to $60 per night for campground fees and $50 to $75 per day for groceries cooked in the RV (much cheaper than restaurants). For summer weekends and fall foliage, book as early as you can. Pennsylvania state parks (Beltzville, Hickory Run, Tobyhanna) open reservations up to 11 months out through the Pennsylvania DCNR reservation system, and prime sites can disappear quickly for Memorial Day, July 4th, and October leaf-peeping weekends. Private parks like Jim Thorpe Camping Resort and Lehigh Gorge Campground accept reservations year-round and usually have more midweek flexibility. For shoulder season (late April to mid-June or after Labor Day), 2 to 4 weeks ahead is typically fine. Pro tip: if you strike out at a state park, check for cancellations on Sunday evenings when many refunded sites get released.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Slatington?
Driving an RV around Slatington is genuinely manageable compared to most of the Northeast. Routes 873, 248, and 145 are wide two-lane highways with gentle grades, and the town's Main Street has plenty of room for travel trailers. Be aware of the Lehigh Gap area where Route 248 curves along the river, and the climb up Blue Mountain on Route 873 calls for low gear on descent. Use caution with older underpasses in the Walnutport area if you're driving anything tall, and confirm your RV height with your host. Pro tip: check the Pennsylvania 511 traffic site before your trip, it flags closures on Route 248 that locals know about but visitors don't.

Local campgrounds are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Beltzville State Park offers a swimming beach, day-use facilities, and modern restrooms (note: Beltzville is primarily a day-use park, with camping handled at nearby Mauch Chunk Lake and Hickory Run). Hickory Run State Park has electric sites, a dump station, hot showers, flush toilets, and a camp store. Mauch Chunk Lake Park provides hookup sites on select loops. Private parks like Jim Thorpe Camping Resort include 30/50 amp service, Wi-Fi, laundry, and pools. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank in Slatington before heading into the more remote Hickory Run loops, the spigots there can have lines on Saturday mornings.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/WhatToDo/Camping/Pages/default.aspxWhat features and equipment do Slatington RV rentals typically include?
Expect a fully equipped home on wheels. Most Slatington motorhome rental listings include a queen bed, convertible dinette, full kitchen with fridge/freezer, microwave, propane stove, indoor bathroom with shower, roof air conditioning, furnace, awning, and seatbelts for everyone traveling. Travel trailers offer the same with a bit more living space. Many hosts include a generator (great for boondocking near Bake Oven Knob), and a campervan rental Slatington option will be more compact but easier to park. Wi-Fi and TV vary by listing. Pro tip: check each listing's amenities tab, hosts in the Lehigh Valley often include extras like camp chairs, propane fire pits, and bikes for the D&L Trail at no extra charge.

Hosts on RVezy offer flexible add-ons that make your trip easier. Common options include linen and bedding packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), generator use ($25 to $50 per day), bike racks, kayak racks, and propane refills. Delivery within 25 miles of Slatington typically runs $2 to $4 per mile, and many hosts offer flat-rate drops to Beltzville, Hickory Run, or Jim Thorpe campgrounds. Standard pickup is often between 1 and 4 PM with a 9 to 11 AM return, though hosts can adjust. Pro tip: ask about a late return on Sunday, plenty of Lehigh Valley hosts will allow a later dropoff at no extra charge if their next booking isn't until midweek.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Slatington,PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card when you book, never directly to the host, which keeps your money protected. A refundable security deposit (amount varies by RV and listing) is handled separately from your booking payment and released back to you after a successful return, typically within several days. To avoid any hiccups, do a walkaround video at pickup and dropoff with your host, dump the tanks before return (or pay the dump fee), and refuel to the level shown at pickup. Pro tip: book using a credit card with travel protection for an extra layer of coverage on your Slatington RV trip.
