Spring Grove sits in the rolling hills of southern York County, Pennsylvania, within easy reach of Lake Marburg, the Gettysburg battlefields, and the farm country between York and Hanover. The area works well for RV travelers who want a quiet rural base with quick access to state park recreation and Civil War history.
The closest options span state park, resort, and family-park styles. Codorus State Park covers roughly 3,490 acres in the rolling hills of southern York County, and 1,275-acre Lake Marburg has 26 miles of shoreline. Private parks in the corridor include Ben Franklin RV Park, Cedar Lake Resort, Indian Rock Campgrounds, and Gettysburg Farm RV Campground, a 120-acre working farm operated within the Thousand Trails network.
Most travelers use Spring Grove as a hub for lake days at Codorus, battlefield touring in Gettysburg (about 25 miles west), and short drives into York or Hanover for supplies, snacks, and factory tours. Codorus State Park Gift Shop and Museum is a quick stop for park information and local gifts.
Things to do near Spring Grove
Lake Marburg at Codorus State Park is the main outdoor draw. The 1,275-acre lake is popular for boating and warmwater lake fishing, with motorboats, sailboats, kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards all in use during the warm months. The park also offers a public swimming pool, picnicking, disc golf, and miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails.
Families traveling with kids often add stops at Gettysburg Farm RV Campground, where a swimming pool, mini golf, a petting zoo with farm animals, a playground, basketball courts, and a small camp store are on site. Cedar Lake Resort and Indian Rock Campgrounds add pond fishing and pool time closer to town.
Off-park, Gettysburg National Military Park, the Utz factory tour in Hanover, and the York County Heritage Rail Trail are all within a short drive.

The camping season in southern York County is shaped by the state park calendar and warm-weather amenities at the private parks. The Codorus State Park campground typically operates from the second Friday in April through November 1, while the park itself stays open year-round for day use. Expect the busiest weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day, when the lake, pool, and boat access draw heavy traffic.
Spring brings cool nights, greening woods, and steady rainfall. Summers are warm and humid with afternoon thunderstorms common; shaded lake-loop sites are worth booking early. Fall is a strong window for RV travel, with cooler temperatures, lower humidity, and battlefield foliage typically peaking in mid to late October.
Winter shuts the Codorus campground and most private-park amenities. Travelers who want December through March stays should confirm with individual private parks in the corridor before arriving, since off-season RV availability varies.

How to book a campsite
Codorus State Park uses the Pennsylvania state parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Reservations can be made online or by calling toll-free 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday to Saturday. Sites can be booked up to 11 months in advance, with new inventory released at noon Eastern Time, and reservations must be made at least 3 days ahead of arrival. Summer holiday weekends fill fast, so booking early in the 11-month window is smart.
Stay limits at Codorus cap at 14 consecutive nights between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and equipment must be removed for 48 hours before returning. Private parks such as Ben Franklin RV Park, Cedar Lake Resort, Indian Rock Campgrounds, and Gettysburg Farm RV Campground book directly through their own websites or phone lines. Gettysburg Farm operates within Thousand Trails, so member and non-member availability can differ.
What to expect on the ground
Sites in this area vary widely. Codorus spreads across multiple loops with a mix of non-electric, electric, and full-hookup sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, plus rustic yurts, cottages, and a waterfront lodge. Interior loops tend to be cooler and shadier; open-field sites can be hot in July and August. A sanitary dump station is available on site.
Private parks in the corridor lean family-oriented, with pools, playgrounds, and organized weekend activities. Gettysburg Farm offers a free honey wagon service three times weekly for sites without sewer hookups.
Cell service can be uneven around Pennsylvania state parks, so downloading the park map before a visit is wise. Bring bug spray for lakeside evenings, and plan grocery stops in Spring Grove, Hanover, or York before heading to more rural sites.

weather.gov/ctp/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?

Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving tips, hookups, the awning, slide-outs, and dump procedures. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number in your phone before pickup, and snap photos of the generator, fuse panel, and propane valves during your walkthrough so you can troubleshoot small issues fast.

Pennsylvania gas prices currently average around $3.40 to $3.70 per gallon for regular and $3.80 to $4.20 for diesel, with the cheapest stations usually clustered around York and Hanover off Route 30. For a 300-mile weekend loop, budget roughly $90 to $150 in fuel for a Class C. Earlier is better, especially for summer. Pennsylvania State Parks like Codorus and Gifford Pinchot accept reservations up to 11 months in advance through the Reserve Pennsylvania system, and prime summer weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day often book out quickly. For private parks like Indian Rock Campgrounds or Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm, 2 to 3 months ahead is usually enough except on holiday weekends. Fall foliage weekends in October also book fast. Pro tip: secure your campsite first, then book your RV rental in Pennsylvania on RVezy with confidence knowing exactly where you're parking. Midweek nights almost always have availability, even last-minute.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/reserve-a-campsite-or-facility.htmlWhat are driving conditions like around Spring Grove?
Driving here is genuinely manageable, even for first-timers. Spring Grove sits in rolling York County farmland with mostly two-lane roads like Route 116, Route 216, and Route 234. Speeds stay moderate and traffic is light outside of the York and Hanover rush hours (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.). Watch for low-clearance covered bridges in the area; the historic Brillhart Station Bridge and others have height limits under 9 feet, so stick to numbered state routes with your RV. Winter occasionally brings snow and ice from December to February. Pro tip: use US-30 east-west and I-83 north-south for the smoothest big-rig routes, and avoid back roads with sharp grades near the Pigeon Hills.
511pa.com/What amenities do local campgrounds offer for RVs?
You'll find everything you need close to home. Codorus State Park offers 198 sites with 30/50-amp electric, modern flush restrooms, hot showers, a sanitary dump station, and a swim pool by Lake Marburg, though individual sites don't have water hookups (fill your fresh tank at the entrance). Gifford Pinchot has similar electric-only sites plus a dump station. Indian Rock Campgrounds and Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm offer full hookups including water and sewer at the site, plus laundry, Wi-Fi, and camp stores. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank and empty your black tank before leaving any state park, since the nearest dump station after checkout may be 20 minutes away.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/CodorusStatePark/Pages/Camping.aspxWhat's included inside the RV I rent?
You'll be amazed at how move-in ready these rigs are. A typical campervan rental Spring Grove or motorhome on RVezy comes with real beds (sleeping anywhere from 2 to 10 depending on layout), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, pots, pans, and utensils, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control, and seatbelted seating for travel. Most listings include a TV, many have Wi-Fi or cell boosters, and onboard generators or solar are common for off-grid stays at places like Pine Grove Furnace State Park. Pro tip: check each listing's amenity list and photos carefully, and message the host to confirm sleep count, seatbelts for your group, and whether linens are included or available as an add-on.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rvsWhat add-ons and pickup options do Spring Grove hosts offer?
Hosts in Spring Grove make customizing your trip easy. Popular add-ons include linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), camp chairs and outdoor rugs, kitchen kits, generators, bike racks, propane fills, and pet packages. Many hosts also offer pre-stocked groceries or firewood bundles. Pickup is typically at the host's home or driveway between 1 and 4 p.m., with return by 11 a.m., though some are flexible. Delivery is available from many hosts within a 30 to 50 mile radius covering York, Hanover, Gettysburg, and Lancaster. Pro tip: ask about the mileage policy and generator hours during messaging so there are no surprises, and bundle add-ons during booking for the smoothest pickup experience.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure. When you rent an RV in Spring Grove on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card; there's no cash exchanged with the host. A security deposit is authorized as a temporary hold on your card before pickup, separate from your booking payment, and not actually charged unless there's an issue. As long as you return the RV in the same condition you got it, the hold is released after your trip ends. Pro tip: walk through the RV with your host at pickup and return, take date-stamped photos and videos of both, and you'll avoid the vast majority of deposit issues.
