Campgrounds near Tremont, Pennsylvania
Tremont sits in Schuylkill County in southeastern Pennsylvania, tucked between the Mahantango and Appalachian mountain ranges just off Interstate 81. The town works as a practical base for RV travelers heading to Swatara State Park, a 3,520-acre park in a valley between Blue Mountain and Second Mountain, and for day trips to Hersheypark, the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville, and Cabela's in Hamburg.
Several private RV parks operate within a short drive of the borough. Echo Valley Campground sits in Tremont itself, a year-round family campground one mile off Interstate 81 with RV, tent, and cabin accommodations. Camp-A-While and Camp Swatara are nearby options, while Twin Grove RV Resort and Cottages and the Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA Journey provide larger resort-style properties to the south along the I-81 and I-78 corridor.
Together these campgrounds cover the range from shaded creekside sites and rustic cabins to full-hookup pull-throughs suitable for larger Class A rigs. Most stay open through the shoulder seasons, with the KOA and resort properties typically operating latest into fall.
Things to do near Tremont
Swatara State Park offers roughly 18 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing, plus kayak launches on Swatara Creek and the historic Waterville Bridge, a lenticular truss relocated to the park in the 1980s that now carries the Appalachian Trail across the water. Families can dig for Devonian-era marine fossils at a public pit along Bear Hole Trail, where small numbers of bivalve, crinoid, and trilobite specimens can be taken home.
Off-road riders head to Rausch Creek, a large private ATV and Jeep park a few minutes from Tremont. South of town, Hersheypark is roughly a 35-minute drive, and the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville offers guided tours.
For calmer days, the Swatara Rail Trail follows an old railbed along the creek with mostly flat, shaded walking suitable for kids and dogs.

Peak camping season runs from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, when private campgrounds around Tremont fill weekends well in advance and pools, camp stores, and organized activities are in full swing. Pennsylvania state parks apply a two-night minimum on weekend reservations during the summer, and many private parks apply similar minimums on holiday weekends.
Spring brings green-up along Swatara Creek and good conditions for fossil hunting and paddling, though March and April can be muddy and cool. Fall is a strong shoulder season, with cooler nights, active foliage from late September into mid-October, and easier weekend availability. Hunting is permitted in Swatara State Park, so blaze orange is advisable on trails during firearm seasons.
Winter is quiet. Some private campgrounds close or reduce services, while Echo Valley operates year-round for self-contained rigs. Freezing overnight temperatures and occasional snow are common from December through February.

Reuben went over the RV with us in good detail to explain how everything worked. The RV worked well for our trip and was well equipped. He went the extra mile to help us with the AC.

Booking and reservations
Private campgrounds around Tremont, including Echo Valley Campground, Camp-A-While, Camp Swatara, Twin Grove RV Resort and Cottages, and the Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA Journey, take reservations directly through their websites or by phone. Holiday weekends, Hersheypark weekends, and fall-foliage weekends book earliest, so lock in dates four to eight weeks out for summer stays.
For nearby Pennsylvania state parks, most campsites can be reserved up to 11 months in advance through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests reservation website or by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Confirm rig-length limits and hookup type before booking, since older private parks in the area include a mix of pull-through and back-in sites.
What to expect
Campgrounds in the Tremont area lean traditional and family-oriented rather than resort-luxury. Expect shaded sites under mature hardwoods, gravel or grass pads, and a mix of full-hookup and water-electric configurations. Echo Valley provides showers and restrooms, laundry, a dump station, a camp store, and a swimming pool, with 30 and 50-amp electric available on RV sites.
Cell coverage is generally usable along I-81 and in town but can drop in the deeper valleys near Swatara State Park. Firewood policies vary by park, and Pennsylvania discourages moving firewood between regions to limit the spread of pests, so buying local is the safe default.
Ticks are active spring through fall on wooded trails, and black bears are present in the surrounding state game lands, so standard food storage practices apply.
