Campgrounds and RV parks near Weigelstown, PA

Gifford Pinchot State Park is the outdoor anchor, with a 289-site campground along the southern shore of a 340-acre lake and features including an ADA accessible swimming beach, boat launching and mooring areas, hiking trails, and an outdoor amphitheater. Off the campground, day trips fill out the itinerary. Gettysburg National Military Park, the Harley-Davidson factory tour in York, Hersheypark, and the shops and markets of Lancaster County are all within an hour or so. Family-oriented private parks such as Gettysburg Farm RV Campground add on-site pools, mini golf, a petting area, and organized activities, which help on rainy days or when younger kids need to burn energy without leaving the site.

The main camping season at Gifford Pinchot State Park runs from the second Friday in April through the third Sunday in October, with the full range of facilities available during that window and limited facilities possibly available outside those dates. Private parks in the Weigelstown area, including Gettysburg Farm RV Campground, generally follow a similar mid-April through late October pattern, though some sections stay open longer for extended-stay guests. Summer is peak season. Weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day book up first, particularly lakeside and full-hookup sites, and state park stays are capped at 14 consecutive nights from Memorial Day to Labor Day and 21 consecutive nights during the remainder of the camping season. Late spring and early fall are the sweet spot for cooler nights, thinner crowds, and easier reservations. Winter camping options are limited. Most private parks scale back services after October, and shoulder-season travelers should call ahead to confirm which loops, bathhouses, and dump stations are operating before arrival.

At Gifford Pinchot State Park, all sites feature macadam pads that accommodate everything from tents to large motorhomes, many sites include electric hookups with 20, 30, or 50 amp service, 22 sites offer full connections with water, sewer, and electricity, and modern bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers serve campers along with a sanitary dump station. Pets are permitted on designated campsites only. A campground rehabilitation project is underway that will replace outdated shower and restroom facilities with modern accessible amenities; portions of the campground are temporarily closed in phases while work is completed, and the impacted sites are blocked for reservations in the system. Private parks in the Weigelstown area lean into family amenities: pools, mini golf, playgrounds, scheduled activities, and, at Gettysburg Farm RV Campground, a working farm with animals children can feed. Sites vary from open, sunny pads to shaded creekside spots, so travelers should check site photos or maps before booking if shade or privacy matters.
