York Springs camping overview
York Springs sits in northern Adams County within Pennsylvania's fruit belt, a rolling landscape of apple orchards and low ridges east of South Mountain. Camping options near town are concentrated within about a 30-mile radius, and the area works well as a base for RV travelers who want quiet countryside within short drives of Gettysburg, Harrisburg, and the Cumberland Valley.
Private campgrounds near town, including Walmar Manor Campground, Deer Run Campgrounds, King's Campground, and Campground Island, cover the typical RV needs like hookups, dump stations, and family-oriented amenities. For a more wooded stay, Mountain Creek Camp Ground sits closer to the South Mountain region on the western edge of the area.
Public camping is anchored by Pine Grove Furnace State Park, which sits at the northern tip of the Blue Ridge Mountains in an area known as South Mountain and is surrounded by Michaux State Forest. Codorus State Park lies a drive east in southern York County and adds lakefront sites on Lake Marburg.
Things to do near York Springs
Hiking is the headline activity. Pine Grove Furnace State Park sits at the traditional midpoint of the Appalachian Trail, home to the Appalachian Trail Museum in a restored gristmill and the well-known half-gallon ice-cream challenge at the general store. Trails connect directly into the surrounding Michaux State Forest.
Water recreation centers on two parks. Codorus State Park in southern York County is built around the 1,275-acre Lake Marburg, which has 26 miles of shoreline suited to boating, sailing, kayaks, and warm-water fishing. Pine Grove Furnace adds Laurel and Fuller Lakes for swimming and paddling.
History rounds out the trip. Gettysburg National Military Park is roughly a half-hour drive south, and the surrounding Cumberland Valley and Hanover area combine Civil War sites with orchards, farm stands, and small-town main streets that are easy day trips from a base near York Springs.

Summer is peak. Weekends around Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day fill first, especially waterfront and electric sites at Codorus and Pine Grove Furnace. Reserve several weeks out for those dates. Weekdays remain easier to book into mid-August.
Fall brings cooler nights, ridge-top foliage across South Mountain, and lighter crowds. Winter camping in the area is limited, and hunting seasons run through parts of the fall, so check state park and forest regulations before booking a late-season trip.

I recommend this RV, driving this rig was simple and comfortable. The layout and design of the interior space was perfect and roomy. The dining set makes into a very nice long bed. I will rent this one again.

How to book a campsite near York Springs
State park and state forest sites use one central system. Overnight stays at Pine Grove Furnace, Codorus, Caledonia, and Gifford Pinchot are booked through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations website or by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), Monday to Saturday from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Most sites can be reserved up to 11 months in advance, with new inventory releasing at noon Eastern.
Book early for holiday weekends and any lakefront or electric site. Reservations are especially recommended during peak season when Appalachian Trail hikers frequent the area.
Private campgrounds near York Springs, including Walmar Manor Campground, Deer Run Campgrounds, King's Campground, Mountain Creek Camp Ground, and Campground Island, are booked directly through each operator by phone or website. Confirm rig-length limits, hookup type, and pet rules at the time of booking.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain is rolling rather than mountainous. Elevations near York Springs run in the low hundreds of feet, rising into the 1,000-plus-foot ridges of South Mountain to the west. Roads are paved to most private campgrounds, while state forest access can involve dirt and gravel, so scout ahead before driving down unfamiliar back roads.
Hookups vary. Pine Grove Furnace offers modern campsites with electric and non-electric options, warm showers, flush toilets, and a sanitary dump station, though individual sites do not have water hookups. Codorus has some full-hookup sites plus a large number of electric-only sites for RVs up to about 50 feet.
Expect black bears in South Mountain, seasonal insects near the lakes, and quiet hours enforced overnight. Cell coverage is spotty to nonexistent in Michaux State Forest and around Pine Grove Furnace, so download maps before leaving town.
