Nick was very easy to work with. RV is nice, clean, and perfect for our little family of 4, but could fit up to a few more. We used it for a mini Friday-Sunday camping trip. Heat and generator worked well. Idk how big water tank is, but we used it up pretty quick. So just be mindful of that. They had extra essentials in there that came in very handy. Very reasonable price and will recommend. Thank you!

This was our first time renting an RV, so we were a little nervous at first. However, Dennis was incredibly kind and helpful! He always responded quickly to our questions and explained everything clearly. We took the RV to our kids’ BMX race, and it turned out to be such an amazing family experience! Thanks to Dennis, we made wonderful memories that we will never forget. Thank you so much, Dennis! We will definitely rent from you again for our next adventure! Highly recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Everything was as described on pickup. Antoine’s communication was great and timely. I didn’t get a chance to actually utilize the trailer as my vehicle had mechanical issues. I will rent again from Antoine for my next trip.

Stephen was great! He was very flexible on pick up and drop off times. His communication was quick and easy. His camper was perfect for our needs. The AC unit worked amazingly and having the generator as an optional add was a big bonus for us. Only feedback I would give is to replace the recliner with a new table or a small bench seat. Currently where the table was is a big recliner and that was hard to work around with littles and trying to eat our meals together. Just wanted to give a heads up if you have younger kids that like to eat in the trailer. Overall it was a great experience though and we would definitely rent from Stephen again!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Payson, AZ
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Payson, Arizona?
RV rental in Payson is one of the most affordable ways to experience Arizona's high country. On RVezy, you'll typically find travel trailers from around $90 to $150 per night, campervans from $150 to $225 per night, and Class C motorhomes from $175 to $300 per night, with pricing varying by season, age, and amenities. Booking midweek or in shoulder months like April or October can save 20% or more compared to peak summer rates when Phoenix families head north to escape the heat. For a cheap RV rental in Payson, filter by older travel trailers and ask hosts about weekly discounts. Pro tip: avoid the August Rodeo weekend if you want the best availability and rates.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Payson%2C%20ArizonaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Payson, Arizona?
Good news for your Payson RV trip: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Arizona, no Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement required, even for larger Class A motorhomes. You will need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and we'll verify your identification (ID) right inside the platform during checkout, no paperwork hassles. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're ready to roll. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple Arizona makes it. Once your booking is confirmed, your host will hand over the keys after a full walkthrough at pickup.
azdot.gov/motor-vehicles/driver-services/driver-license-information/types-driver-licensesIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included when I rent in Payson?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Payson comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you can focus on Mogollon Rim views instead of worst-case scenarios. You choose your preferred protection level during checkout (not your host), and the plan helps cover physical damage to the RV based on the tier you select. If you blow a tire on Highway 87 heading up from Phoenix or need a jump start at Christopher Creek Campground, one call gets help dispatched any time of day. It removes the biggest financial worry from your RV camping trip in Payson and adds real peace of mind on Arizona's mountain roads.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat if I need to cancel my Payson RV rental?
Booking your Payson RV trip is low-risk because RVezy, not individual hosts, sets the cancellation policy across every listing. There's a money-back grace period right after booking, and depending on how far out your trip is, you may be eligible for a partial or full refund. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will issue a refund or travel credit so you're never left stranded. Arizona's monsoon season (July through mid-September) can occasionally affect mountain travel, and our support team is here to help when plans shift. Full details live in the RVezy Help Center, but the short version is simple: you're not locked in the moment you click book.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Payson RV trip?
Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in Payson is easy to find on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see dozens of hosts who welcome four-legged co-pilots. Payson is genuinely one of Arizona's most dog-loving towns: Tonto National Forest allows leashed dogs on nearly every trail, including the popular Water Wheel Falls and the Highline National Recreation Trail. Green Valley Park in the middle of town has shaded grass, three stocked fishing lakes, and plenty of room for a game of fetch. Most pet-friendly hosts charge a small cleaning fee ($25 to $75) per pet. Message the host before booking to confirm any breed or size preferences and your pup is good to go.
fs.usda.gov/r03/tontoCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Payson?
Yes, RV delivery in Payson is one of the smartest moves for first-timers, and many local hosts offer it. They'll tow or drive the RV directly to popular spots like Houston Mesa Campground, Ponderosa Campground, or Payson Campground & RV Resort, level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees typically run $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location, with some offering free delivery within 10 to 15 miles of downtown Payson. Filter for Delivery on the RVezy search page to see who offers it. Pro tip: this is gold if it's your first time renting an RV and you'd rather skip driving Highway 87's switchbacks.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Payson%2C%20ArizonaHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Payson?
Plenty far, and Payson sits in a sweet spot for an Arizona RV trip with major destinations within a half-day drive. Phoenix is just 95 miles south (about 90 minutes), Sedona is 75 miles northwest (under 2 hours), the Grand Canyon's South Rim is around 175 miles north (3.5 hours), and Lake Powell is roughly 235 miles north (4.5 hours). Some RVezy hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, others offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, and overage fees usually run $0.30 to $0.50 per mile. Check the listing's mileage policy before booking, and if you're planning a longer RV road trip from Payson, message the host to negotiate a bigger mileage package upfront.
azdot.gov/adot-newsWhere are the best campgrounds near Payson for an RV?
You're spoiled for choice with some of the best campgrounds near Payson scattered across Tonto National Forest and right in town. Payson Campground & RV Resort on Highway 260 offers full-hookup sites and walking-distance access to restaurants. Houston Mesa Campground just north of town has shady ponderosa sites managed by the Forest Service. Ponderosa Campground sits about 15 minutes east near the Rim Country lakes with spacious sites under towering pines. Christopher Creek Campground, roughly 22 miles east on Highway 260, puts you creekside at around 5,600 feet elevation. For full amenities, Rim Country RV Park south of town has big-rig pull-throughs with Wi-Fi. Book Forest Service sites on Recreation.gov up to six months ahead.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/1096When is the best time of year for an RV trip to Payson?
Payson is a true four-season destination, but the sweet spots are May, June, September, and October when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s and 80s with cool evenings perfect for campfires. July and August bring afternoon monsoon thunderstorms and the famous August Rodeo (the World's Oldest Continuous Rodeo), so book early for those weekends. Fall is gorgeous as the aspens turn gold along the Mogollon Rim. Winter (December through February) brings highs in the 40s and 50s with occasional snow, ideal if you want a quiet, scenic getaway in a winter-ready RV. Avoid late June if fire restrictions concern you, since that's typically the driest, highest-risk window in Tonto National Forest.
weather.gov/fgz/I've never driven an RV before, will I be okay in Payson?
You've got this, and Payson is actually a forgiving place for first-time renters. Every RVezy host gives you a full pickup walkthrough covering the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, and dump procedures, so nothing is a mystery before you drive off. Stick to a Class C motorhome, campervan, or travel trailer for your first trip, smaller rigs handle Highway 87's curves coming up from Phoenix much better than big Class A's. If city driving worries you, book delivery so the RV is already parked and set up at your campground. Pro tip: practice in the campground loop for 10 minutes before heading out. Most first-timers say the hardest part was just deciding to book.
azdot.gov/adot-news/driving-mountain-roads-tips-arizonas-high-countryWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never alone out there. Every RVezy booking in Payson includes 24/7 roadside assistance for flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and fuel delivery, just call the number in your booking confirmation. For non-emergency issues like a finicky furnace or a slide-out acting up, your host is your first call and most Payson hosts respond within minutes since they live nearby. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip. Cell coverage is solid in town and along Highway 260 but can drop in canyons near Christopher Creek and the lower Rim, so download offline maps before heading into the forest.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trip routes from Payson?
An RV road trip from Payson opens up some of the Southwest's greatest hits. The Rim Country Loop heads east on Highway 260 to Woods Canyon Lake and Willow Springs Lake (about 30 miles), perfect for a weekend. The Sedona route takes Highway 87 north to Strawberry, then west toward Sedona's red rocks (about 75 miles, around 2 hours). For a bucket-list trip, continue north to the Grand Canyon's South Rim (about 175 miles total). Heading south, drop into Roosevelt Lake via Highway 188 (around 60 miles) for desert lake camping. Cross-border trips into Mexico are not covered by RVezy's insurance, so keep your adventure in the US. Most hosts are flexible on routes, just confirm mileage allowance before booking.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of gas mileage should I budget for in Payson?
Realistic expectations make budgeting easy: campervans and small travel trailers tow at 12 to 18 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A's are typically 6 to 10 MPG, with Payson's mountain climbs eating into those numbers a bit. Arizona gas prices in Payson typically run $0.20 to $0.40 per gallon higher than Phoenix, so fill up at the bottom of the hill in Mesa or Fountain Hills before climbing Highway 87. There's a Circle K, Maverik, and Safeway fuel station in town for convenience. Pro tip: most rentals require returning with the same fuel level you got it, so snap a photo of the gauge at pickup.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I reserve a campground near Payson?
For peak summer weekends (Memorial Day through Labor Day), book Tonto National Forest campgrounds like Ponderosa, Houston Mesa, and Christopher Creek the moment the six-month reservation window opens on Recreation.gov, sites disappear within hours, especially the lakeside spots at Woods Canyon. For private parks like Payson Campground & RV Resort or Rim Country RV Park, 2 to 3 months ahead is usually safe, and last-minute openings pop up midweek. Winter is much more relaxed, you can often score a spot a week out. Pro tip: if everything's booked, check Houston Mesa's first-come-first-served loop on a Thursday morning, locals know it's the secret backup plan.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/1096What are Payson's driving conditions like for an RV?
Payson driving is more manageable than it looks on the map. Highway 87 (the Beeline) from Phoenix is a divided four-lane highway most of the way with a steady climb from 1,400 feet to over 5,000 feet, take it easy on the upgrade and use lower gears on the descent. Highway 260 east toward Heber is two-lane with curves but generally RV-friendly. Watch for elk crossings at dawn and dusk, summer monsoon downpours from July through mid-September, and occasional winter snow from December through February. Avoid driving the Mogollon Rim Road (FR 300) in a large rig, it's a beautiful scenic byway but unpaved and rough. Stick to paved routes and you'll be fine.
az511.gov/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds around Payson?
Payson-area campgrounds offer a real range, so you can pick the experience you want. Private parks like Payson Campground & RV Resort and Rim Country RV Park have full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, laundry, hot showers, and dump stations on site. Tonto National Forest campgrounds like Houston Mesa, Ponderosa, and Christopher Creek typically offer potable water spigots, vault or flush toilets, and fire rings, but no individual hookups, so you'll run on batteries and tanks. Most Forest Service sites have a central dump station; Houston Mesa's is open to the public for a small fee. To fill fresh water in town, the Payson Campground also offers water-fill service for travelers passing through.
fs.usda.gov/r03/tonto/recreation/camping-cabinsWhat's typically included inside a Payson RV rental?
Payson RVs come ready to camp. Most motorhome rentals in Payson include a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 4 to 8 depending on size, heating, air conditioning, and seatbelted seats for travel. Many hosts include kitchen kits with pots, plates, and utensils, plus bedding and towels, just ask. Class C and Class A motorhomes usually have generators for boondocking, and a campervan rental in Payson typically features clever space-saving touches like pop-tops and outdoor showers. TV and Wi-Fi vary, since cell signal drops in canyons, consider it a feature not a bug. Check each listing's amenities list and message the host with any questions before booking.
fs.usda.gov/r03/tonto/recreationWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Payson RV rental?
Plenty, and they make life easier. Common RVezy add-ons in Payson include bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, camping chairs and tables, generators, bikes, kayaks, propane refills, and the popular delivery-and-setup service. Mileage policies vary, some hosts offer 100 free miles per night while others advertise RV rental with unlimited mileage, ideal for a Grand Canyon loop. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Payson, with a walkthrough covering every system. Late returns can trigger fees, so coordinate with your host if your timing shifts. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a bedding kit and you can show up at the campground with nothing but groceries and a swimsuit.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Payson%2C%20ArizonaHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Payson?
Payment is straightforward and handled entirely through RVezy, no cash or checks change hands at pickup. You'll pay your rental total at booking with a credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV) is placed as a hold on your card before your trip starts, separate from the rental payment. As long as you return the RV in the same condition with the agreed fuel and propane levels, the hold is released after the trip. Pro tip: do a quick walkthrough video with your host at pickup and again at drop-off, it's the single best habit for keeping your deposit safe.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Payson during winter, and is cold-weather camping doable?
Yes, winter RV rental in Payson is a hidden gem and many hosts rent year-round. Daytime highs from December through February sit in the 40s and 50s, nights can drop into the 20s, and Payson sees occasional snow that turns the ponderosa pines into a postcard. Look for listings labeled four-season or winter-ready: those have heated holding tanks, propane furnaces, and the ability to run on shore power at parks like Payson Campground & RV Resort and Rim Country RV Park, both open year-round. Disconnect external water hoses overnight and use the onboard tank to prevent freezing. Pro tip: combine a snow-play day on the Mogollon Rim with hot chocolate back at the campsite, it's pure magic.
