This travel trailer was perfect for us! It’s modern, spacious, fully furnished, bright and laid out well. The 2 entrance option was great - access to the bathroom directly from the outside worked out well at the dirt bike track, so no one had to track dirt across the floor. Delivery was smooth and communication was excellent. Plenty of room for everyone!

Sam was a great host, he communicated well and had everything set up before I got there. I was a family of 4 and we had enough room. Shower is perfect size and bathroom even comes with a door so you can go straight outside. We had a canopy and led light outside plus outdoor speakers with a built in radio/ bluetooth that comes with the camper. You won’t be disappointed. Book your next trip with Sam.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Athens, GA

How much does an RV rental in Athens, GA actually cost?

Renting an RV in Athens is more affordable than most people expect. Motorhomes near Athens, GA average around $200 per night, while travel trailers come in closer to $120 per night, and many hosts offer 10-20% discounts for weekly or monthly bookings. Prices climb during University of Georgia (UGA) home football weekends, graduation, and the AthFest music festival in late June, so booking 2-3 months ahead locks in better rates. For a cheap RV rental in Athens, look at midweek dates in late winter or early spring, and use the price filter to sort by budget. Pro tip: pairing a smaller travel trailer with a stay at Pine Lake Campground (just outside town) is one of the best value combos for a weekend in Athens.

What kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Athens, GA?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Athens, GA. Georgia does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for the motorhomes and trailers you'll find on RVezy, even for larger Class A and Class C units. You just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during checkout, so there are no extra trips to the DMV. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home-country license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're ready to roll. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the Athens RV rental process really is.

What's included for protection and roadside help on my Athens RV rental?

Every RV rental in Athens, GA booked through RVezy comes with a protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right into the booking. The protection plan covers physical damage to the vehicle, and you choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host. If you get a flat on the way to Watson Mill Bridge State Park or need a jump start at Pine Lake Campground, one call gets help dispatched any hour of the day. Learn more about coverage options before you book so you can focus on enjoying your Athens RV trip with confidence.

What happens if I need to cancel my Athens RV rental?

Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets a clear cancellation policy on every reservation (hosts don't set this), and there's a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. Beyond that, refund eligibility depends on how far you are from your trip start date. You'll see the exact terms before you confirm, and RVezy's support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip if plans change. That makes it easy to lock in your dates for a UGA football weekend or fall foliage RV trip from Athens without second-guessing.

Can I bring my dog on an RV rental in Athens, GA?

Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in Athens, GA is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see listings where dogs (and sometimes cats) are welcome, often for a small cleaning fee set by the host. Athens is one of the most dog-loving college towns in the South, and great nearby spots include Sandy Creek Park's off-leash dog area, the leashed trails at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, and Hard Labor Creek State Park in Rutledge, which allows leashed pets at most campsites. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and ask about a fenced yard if you're choosing delivery.

Can the RV be delivered to my campground or house in Athens?

Yes, RV delivery in Athens is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters. Many hosts will tow or drive the RV right to your campsite at Pine Lake Campground, Fort Yargo State Park in Winder, or even your driveway in Five Points or Normaltown, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter for Delivery on the listing page to see hosts who offer it, with fees usually based on round-trip mileage. This is hands-down the easiest way to enjoy an Athens RV trip if you're nervous about towing or driving a big rig through downtown.

How far can I drive, and what are typical road trips from Athens?

You've got tons of range from Athens, GA, and most hosts include a generous daily mileage allowance (often 100-150 miles per day) with the option to pre-purchase extra or pay a per-mile rate. Popular RV road trips from Athens include Helen and the North Georgia mountains (about 75 miles, 1.5 hours), Savannah and Tybee Island (250 miles, 4 hours), the Great Smoky Mountains around Gatlinburg, TN (200 miles, 3.5 hours), Charleston, SC (290 miles, 4.5 hours), and Lake Hartwell on the GA/SC border (60 miles, 1 hour). If you're planning a longer haul, filter for RV rental with unlimited mileage to skip the math entirely.

Where are the best campgrounds near Athens, GA?

Athens has fantastic camping within a short drive. Pine Lake Campground in Bishop is the closest full-hookup RV park to downtown Athens and the UGA campus, with shady sites and year-round availability. Fort Yargo State Park in Winder (about 20 miles west) offers lakefront sites, swimming, and 20+ miles of trails. Hard Labor Creek State Park in Rutledge has a beach, two lakes, and full-hookup loops perfect for families. The Commerce/Athens KOA Journey sits just off I-85 with pull-throughs that fit big rigs. For lake life, Don Carter State Park on Lake Lanier (45 miles) and Watson Mill Bridge State Park (covered-bridge views, 20 miles east) are local favorites for RV camping near Athens.

When is the best time of year for an Athens RV trip?

Athens shines in spring and fall, and you can rent an RV in Georgia year-round thanks to the mild climate. April and May bring 70-80°F days, dogwoods, and the Twilight Criterium downtown, while September through early November delivers cool nights in the 50s, gorgeous foliage along the Oconee River, and of course UGA home football Saturdays. Summers (June-August) are hot and humid, with highs near 91°F and afternoon thunderstorms, so you'll want an RV with strong air conditioning. Winters are short and mild (highs around 51-55°F), making December-February a quiet, budget-friendly window for a cozy getaway. Pro tip: avoid game-day weekends if you want lower prices and easier campground availability.

I've never rented an RV before. How does it work in Athens?

First time renting an RV? You're going to love how supportive the process is. Every Athens host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery), showing you how to run the generator, fill the fresh-water tank, dump waste, deploy the awning, and operate the AC and heat. Many hosts offer a starter kit with hoses, chocks, and a sewer setup included. You can message any host through the listing before you book to ask questions, and RVezy support is available 24/7. Pro tip: choose a smaller Class C motorhome or travel trailer for your first Athens RV trip and book delivery to Pine Lake Campground so you don't have to drive it at all.
nps.gov/subjects/camping/rv-camping.htm

What happens if something breaks down during my trip?

You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking in Athens includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing if needed. If a household system acts up (fridge, AC, slide-out), your host is your first call since they know their RV best, and most Athens-area hosts are very responsive. RVezy's support team is also available around the clock to help coordinate fixes or repairs. Whether you're at a campsite at Fort Yargo or pulled over on Highway 441, help is one phone call away, so you can relax and enjoy your Georgia road trip.

Can I take the RV out of Georgia or across the border?

Yes, you've got plenty of room to roam. Most RVezy hosts in Athens allow interstate travel, so you can easily plan an RV road trip from Athens to South Carolina's Lake Hartwell, the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee and North Carolina, or even Florida's Gulf Coast. Cross-border trips into Canada may be allowed with host approval and proper documentation, so message the host before booking if that's on your itinerary. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage doesn't extend there. For most renters, Georgia's central Southeast location means you can hit 4-5 states comfortably in a week.

What kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and what does gas cost in Athens?

Plan smart and your fuel budget stays manageable. Class C motorhomes around Athens typically get 8-12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A units run 6-10 MPG, smaller campervans can hit 15-20 MPG, and if you're towing a travel trailer with your own truck or SUV, expect a 30-40% drop from your normal MPG. Georgia gas prices tend to be among the lower in the Southeast, often $0.20-0.40 cheaper per gallon than the national average, and you'll find plenty of large stations with RV-friendly pumps along I-85, US-441, and the Athens Perimeter (Loop 10). Pro tip: fill up at the Pilot or Love's near Commerce before heading into the mountains, where prices jump.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far in advance should I book a campground near Athens?

Book early and your trip falls into place. Georgia State Park campgrounds (Fort Yargo, Hard Labor Creek, Watson Mill Bridge, Victoria Bryant) can be reserved up to 13 months in advance through the Georgia State Parks reservation system, and weekends fill 3-6 months out, especially in spring and fall. UGA home football Saturdays sell out a year ahead at every campground within 30 miles of Athens, so claim those dates as soon as the schedule drops. For private parks like Pine Lake Campground or the Commerce/Athens KOA, 2-4 weeks ahead is usually plenty for weekdays. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday-Wednesday) almost always have openings, even at the most popular spots.
gastateparks.org/Reservations

What's it like driving an RV in and around Athens?

Athens is genuinely RV-friendly. The Athens Perimeter (Loop 10) is a four-lane highway that lets you bypass downtown entirely, and US-441, US-29, and US-78 all handle big rigs comfortably. Avoid driving large Class A or fifth-wheel rigs into the historic downtown grid around Broad Street and College Avenue, where streets narrow and parking is tight, so use delivery for those visits. Watch for height-restricted railroad underpasses near downtown (signed at 11 feet or less) and stick to truck routes. Heading to the mountains? US-441 north toward Helen has steeper grades, so take it slow. Summer afternoon thunderstorms can be intense, so check the radar before pulling out of the campground.
dot.ga.gov/DriveSmart

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Athens, GA?

Campground equipment around Athens is solid and well maintained. Most RV parks within 30 miles, including Pine Lake Campground, Fort Yargo State Park, and the Commerce/Athens KOA, offer full hookup sites (30 and 50 amp electric, water, sewer), dump stations, potable water fill-ups, hot showers, laundry, and free Wi-Fi or strong cell service for Verizon and AT&T. Georgia State Parks have clean bathhouses, dump stations near the exit, and reservable pull-through sites for big rigs. If you need to dump or fill water between stops, the Commerce/Athens KOA and Pine Lake both offer paid dump service to non-guests. Pro tip: pack a 25-foot drinking-safe water hose and a 90-degree sewer elbow for easier hookups.
gastateparks.org/Camping

What's typically inside an RV rental in Athens?

Athens RV rentals come well-equipped for comfortable camping. Most motorhome rentals in Athens (Class A, B, and C) include a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette and sofa sleeping for 4-7 people, a full kitchen with a fridge/freezer, stove, microwave, and sink, an indoor bathroom with toilet and shower, roof AC, furnace, a flat-screen TV, and often a built-in generator for off-grid power. Many include Wi-Fi boosters or hotspots, and all driving seats have proper seatbelts. Travel trailers and fifth wheels offer similar amenities once parked. Each listing has a full amenity checklist, and you can filter by sleeps count, generator, or pet-friendly. Pro tip: confirm with your host whether linens, towels, and a kitchen kit are included or available as add-ons.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Athens%2C%20Georgia

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?

Athens hosts offer a great range of add-ons that make your trip easier. Common options include linens and towel packages ($25-75), camp chairs and outdoor rugs, kitchen kits with pots and dishes, generators (often included), portable grills, bike racks, kayaks, and propane refills. Mileage policies vary by host (look for the per-mile rate and daily allowance on the listing), and many offer unlimited mileage upgrades for long trips. Pickup is usually at the host's home in greater Athens (Watkinsville, Bogart, Winterville, or Bishop are common), and most welcome delivery and setup at local campgrounds for a flat fee plus mileage. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a linens package to make your Athens family RV trip totally turnkey.

How does payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card at the time of booking, and your payment is held safely until the trip begins, so the host doesn't get paid until you've picked up the keys. A refundable security deposit (typically $500-$1,500 depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card before the trip, not charged, and is released after the host confirms the RV came back clean, on time, and in good shape. To avoid any deposit issues, do a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the fuel and propane levels noted in your agreement, and dump the tanks if required by your host.

Any insider tips for visiting Athens by RV?

Here's the local secret: time your Athens RV trip around AthHalf (the half-marathon in late October) or AthFest (late June music and arts festival downtown) for a one-of-a-kind college-town vibe, but book your campsite and RV at least 4-6 months ahead because everything fills up. Park your motorhome at Pine Lake Campground or Fort Yargo State Park and use rideshare into downtown so you can enjoy the live music on Washington Street without driving. Don't miss a morning at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia (free, RV parking available), a stroll through the North Oconee River Greenway, and a stop at Terrapin Beer Co. for a brewery tour. Tailgating an RV at a UGA game is bucket-list level.
