The RV was fantastic and Josh was a great host! We were his first booking and you never would’ve known. He was super thorough in the walk-around going through the RV and the intricacies of the truck (it has air brakes!). Once on the road, it was super easy to drive, if you can say that about a 36’ Super C! The air ride seat made it really comfy and the adaptive cruise made it super easy to navigate from the driver side. And the kids and wife loved the onboard generator to watch TV, heat up some food, use the restroom, and even sleep while en route to our destination. When it’s time for another adventure, we’ll definitely be reaching out to Josh to rent again! Highly recommend Josh and his RV.

This was a wonderful experience. We camped in beach areas as well as wooded by a lake and this van was comfortable, reliable and REALLY easy to drive. We went to Atlanta, also, to the aquarium and navigating the city was easy as pie in this thing. The owners are INCREDIBLY nice and the communication is some of the best I’ve ever seen across things like this app, AirBnB, etc. Great people, great van, great experience.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Stone Mountain, Georgia?

A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Stone Mountain, GA. The Georgia Department of Driver Services confirms that a noncommercial Class C license covers personal RV use, and operators of recreational vehicles are exempt from the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) requirement. You will need to be 25 or older to be an approved driver on RVezy, and your ID is verified through the platform during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Most first-time renters are pleasantly surprised at how simple the process is, especially for Class B campervans and Class C motorhomes, which drive a lot like an oversized van.

Winters are mild for the South (40s and 50s during the day), which means year-round RV rental availability and quieter campgrounds. Local insider tip: visit the last weekend of November through December for Stone Mountain Christmas, the campground hosts a famous decorated golf-cart parade and the park lights up with millions of bulbs.

Pro tip: spend your first night at Stone Mountain Park Campground, just 1.5 miles inside the east gate off Highway 78, so you can settle in close to home before venturing further.

What kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how should I budget for gas?

Easy to plan for: most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), travel trailers towed by a pickup average 10 to 14 MPG, and Class B campervans can squeeze out 18 to 22 MPG. Georgia's average gas prices typically run below the national average, and you'll find plenty of fuel stations along Highway 78, Interstate 285, and U.S. 78 near Stone Mountain. For a 500-mile loop in a Class C, budget roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: the QuikTrip on East Park Place Boulevard, just 3 miles from the park's east gate, has high-clearance pumps that comfortably fit Class A and C motorhomes, no awkward maneuvering required.

How far ahead should I reserve a campsite near Stone Mountain?

For Stone Mountain Park Campground, book as early as possible: holiday weekends like July 4th and Memorial Day, along with festivals such as the Yellow Daisy Festival in early September and Stone Mountain Christmas in November and December, can sell out up to a year in advance. Regular spring and fall weekends usually open up about 3 to 6 months ahead. Reservations are made directly through stonemountainpark.com. For Georgia State Parks like nearby Panola Mountain, use the official Georgia State Parks reservation system. Pro tip: a two-night minimum often applies on weekends, and a three-night minimum can kick in on holiday weekends, so plan your dates with that in mind.
gastateparks.org/Camping

What are the driving conditions like around Stone Mountain and Atlanta?

You'll do fine: Stone Mountain itself sits on quiet two-lane roads inside the park, with paved campground access and a 25 to 35 mph speed limit. The catch is metro Atlanta traffic on Interstates 285, 75, and 85, which gets heavy weekdays between 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. Plan your pickup and arrival outside those windows and you'll cruise. Stone Mountain Park's east gate off U.S. 78 is the easiest entry for RVs, then a quick left onto Stonewall Jackson Drive leads to the campground in 1.5 miles. Local insider tip: avoid downtown Atlanta's I-85/I-75 Connector entirely in an RV, use I-285 (the Perimeter) instead to bypass the worst congestion and low-clearance bridges.
dot.ga.gov/DS/Travel

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Stone Mountain?

You will find well-equipped campgrounds in this area. Stone Mountain Park Campground offers full-hookup sites (water, electric, sewer) and partial-hookup sites with water and 30/50-amp electric, plus an on-site dump station, hot showers, laundry, a seasonal swimming pool, and a general store with propane and firewood. Most nearby parks like Stone Mountain Family Campground and Jones RV Park in Norcross also offer full hookups, Wi-Fi, and dump stations. To fill fresh water or dump tanks between trips, the park's campground dump station is open to registered guests. Pro tip: request a lakeside site overlooking Stone Mountain Lake for the most scenic setup and a stunning sunset view.

What's actually inside the RVs available to rent in Stone Mountain?

More than you'd think. Most motorhome rentals in Stone Mountain come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, dinette and sofa that convert to extra sleeping space, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, roof air conditioning, furnace heat, and a TV. Many include a generator for boondocking, awnings for shade, and outdoor speakers. Seatbelt counts vary by RV (typically 4 to 7 in a Class C), so check the listing if you're traveling with a group. Wi-Fi depends on cellular signal, which is strong throughout metro Atlanta. Pro tip: use the Sleeps filter on RVezy to match the RV to your group size, then message the host about extras like camp chairs, bikes, or kayaks for Stone Mountain Lake.
fcc.gov/consumers/guides/cellular-service

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about when I rent an RV in Stone Mountain?

Hosts in Stone Mountain offer a great range of optional add-ons to make your trip easier: linens and bedding packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and tables, generators, bike racks, kayaks or stand-up paddleboards (great for Stone Mountain Lake), and even pre-stocked propane tanks. Each host sets their own pricing, mileage policy, and pickup or delivery logistics, all clearly listed on the listing page. You can choose Instant Book listings for fastest confirmation, or message the host first to ask questions. Pro tip: if you want a fully turnkey trip, filter for Delivery and add a linens package, you can literally show up to a fully made-up RV at Stone Mountain Park Campground with nothing but a duffel bag.
usa.gov/travel

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Simple and secure: you pay for your Stone Mountain RV rental directly through RVezy at checkout using a credit or debit card, and your payment is held safely until your trip starts. Hosts set a refundable security deposit (commonly $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV), which is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the trip assuming no damage or policy violations. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment. Never pay your host outside the platform, doing so voids your protection plan. Pro tip: to avoid deposit surprises, fuel up the RV before returning it, dump the tanks if your host requests it, and double-check the listing for any cleaning or generator-hour fees so there are no surprises at drop-off.

How do I handle Atlanta's summer heat in an RV near Stone Mountain?

Stay cool with a smart plan. Stone Mountain summers regularly hit the upper 80s and low 90s Fahrenheit with high humidity, so book a full-hookup site (the campground's 144 full-hookup spots run shore power that easily handles roof air conditioning all day). Drive in the cooler morning hours, park in the shade of the campground's hardwood canopy, and keep awnings extended. Most RV rentals in Stone Mountain include roof air, but generators have run-time limits, so shore power is the way to go in July and August. Pro tip: shoulder seasons (April, May, October) are the smart-money move, you'll get pleasant 70-degree days, lower nightly rates, and the park's hiking trails to yourself.
