Wonderful across the board. The RV was clean, drove perfectly (mountains of Colorado and New Mexico), and was impeccably organized. They have clearly thought through all the things that might be needed on a long trip and made them easily accessible. The toilet cassette was easy to empty (particularly in a latrine -- 3-5 minutes with no mess). The refrigerator and cabinets have plenty of space and beds were comfortable. It was easy to stop and sleep overnight in parks. We were really pleased and would happily rent this RV again.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Bellwood, IL

How much does an RV rental in Bellwood, IL cost?

RV rental in Bellwood is typically more affordable than renting closer to downtown Chicago. On RVezy, you can generally expect travel trailers from about $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $275 per night, and Class A motorhomes from $250 to $400 per night. Because Bellwood sits about 13 miles west of the Loop along I-290, hosts here often price below city listings while keeping you close to the action. For the cheapest RV rental Bellwood has to offer, book midweek (Sunday through Thursday) and travel in spring or fall, when rates often run 15 to 25% below summer weekend pricing. Browse live pricing on RVezy to compare options side by side.

What license do I need to rent an RV in Bellwood, IL?

Good news: for almost every RV rental in Bellwood, your regular driver's license is all you need. Illinois only requires an upgraded non-commercial Class B license for personally owned RVs over 16,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), but virtually every camper van, travel trailer, and Class C motorhome on RVezy falls well under that threshold. You'll also need to be 25 or older and verify your ID through the RVezy platform when booking. Visiting from out of state or abroad? Illinois recognizes your home license, and international guests can grab an International Driving Permit (IDP) from their auto association for under $20. That's it, you're road-ready.

Is renting an RV in Bellwood, IL safe and protected?

Yes. Every RV rental in Bellwood booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built into your booking, so you can confidently head out on I-290 toward Starved Rock or up to Wisconsin. You choose your protection level at checkout based on how much coverage and peace of mind you want, and hosts do not set or limit your options. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the RV and is a great safety net, especially if it is your first time renting an RV. You stay in control of your coverage from booking through return.

What if I need to cancel my Bellwood RV rental?

Booking an RV rental in Bellwood is low risk because RVezy, not individual hosts, sets the cancellation policy that applies to your trip. There is a short grace period right after booking where eligible cancellations can receive a full refund, and refund amounts after that depend on how far in advance of your trip you cancel. RVezy also reviews extenuating situations such as major weather events, which matters in Illinois where summer storms and winter snow can affect travel. This consistency lets you book early with confidence and lock in the best RVs before summer weekends and Chicago event dates fill up.

Can I find a pet-friendly RV rental in Bellwood, IL?

Yes. Many hosts welcome dogs and cats on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when searching for an RV rental in Bellwood and you will see listings ready for your four-legged co-pilot. Bellwood is also a great launchpad for pet-friendly adventures: the Cook County Forest Preserves nearby include trails and designated off-leash dog areas, and Starved Rock State Park (about 95 miles southwest) allows leashed dogs on most trails. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees or breed notes, and you are set for a pet-friendly RV rental Bellwood trip.

Can the RV be delivered to me in Bellwood?

Yes, RV delivery is one of the most popular options on RVezy in the Bellwood area, especially if you would rather skip driving a big rig on the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) or through tight residential streets. Many local hosts will deliver the motorhome or travel trailer straight to your campground, driveway, or popular nearby spots like Camp Bullfrog Lake in Willow Springs or Chain O'Lakes State Park. Delivery fees are set by the host and commonly range from about $2 to $5 per mile, and many hosts will also set up the RV, connect hookups, and walk you through everything on arrival. It is one of the easiest ways to start an Illinois RV trip.

How far can I drive on a Bellwood RV rental, and what about mileage limits?

Most hosts in Bellwood include between 100 and 150 free miles per night, and many offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer road trips, just look for the Unlimited Miles filter on RVezy. From Bellwood you're perfectly positioned for popular routes: Starved Rock State Park (about 90 miles), Indiana Dunes National Park (about 60 miles), Galena (about 165 miles), and Wisconsin Dells (about 180 miles). If you're planning an RV road trip from Bellwood that loops through multiple states, message the host before booking to negotiate a flat mileage package. Extra miles typically run $0.30 to $0.45 each, so unlimited can be a great deal on cross-state runs.

Where are the best campgrounds near Bellwood, IL?

You have great options within an hour or two of Bellwood. Camp Bullfrog Lake in Willow Springs (about 15 miles south) is operated by the Forest Preserves of Cook County and offers RV-friendly sites with electric hookups in a wooded setting close to the city. Chicago Northwest KOA Holiday in Union (about 50 miles northwest) features full hookups, a pool, and family activities. Chain O'Lakes State Park (about 60 miles north) is a favorite for lake lovers, with electric RV sites near the Fox River chain. For a longer trip, Starved Rock State Park Campground (about 95 miles southwest) has Class A premium sites with electric hookups. Reserve Illinois state park sites through camp.exploremoreil.com.

When is the best time for an RV trip from Bellwood, IL?

Late May through early October is prime RV season around Bellwood, with mid-September to mid-October being a standout window when fall colors light up Starved Rock and the Illinois River valley. Summer (June through August) typically brings warm days in the 80s, perfect for lake camping, alongside Chicago's busiest tourist season. Spring (April through May) is mild and usually cheaper, though nights can dip into the 40s, so a heated RV is a smart choice. Winter RV camping is beautiful but requires a four-season RV with heated tanks. For peak fall foliage with mild daytime temps, target the last two weekends of September.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one from Bellwood?

You will be in great hands. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, hookups, the generator, slide-outs, dumping tanks, and any quirks specific to that RV, so first time renting an RV feels totally manageable. From Bellwood, most first-timers head west on I-290 or south on I-294 to clear city traffic within 20 to 30 minutes, then enjoy flat, easy Illinois highway driving toward Starved Rock or the Mississippi River. If city driving feels intimidating, choose delivery so the host brings the RV to a quieter location. You can also message hosts before booking with any questions, and they are happy to help new renters succeed.

What happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?

Take a breath, you are covered. Every RV rental in Bellwood booked on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on I-88, a dead battery at a campground, or a lockout near downtown Chicago is just a phone call away. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip, and your host is usually a quick text away for questions about how something on the RV works. Illinois has well-maintained interstates and plenty of service stations along major routes like I-80 and I-90, so help is rarely far. Most issues get resolved quickly so you can get back to enjoying your Illinois RV trip.

Can I take my Bellwood RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Interstate travel is wide open. Bellwood sits at the crossroads of I-290, I-294, and I-88, putting Wisconsin (about 90 minutes north), Indiana (about 45 minutes east), Michigan (about 3 hours), and Iowa (about 3 hours) all within easy reach for a classic Midwest RV road trip from Bellwood. Cross-border travel into Canada may be possible depending on the host's policy and the protection plan, so message the host before booking if you plan to visit, for example, the Canadian shore of Lake Superior. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Otherwise, the continental U.S. is yours to explore.

What should I budget for fuel on an Illinois RV trip?

Plan smart and fuel won't break the budget. Most Class C motorhomes get 8-12 miles per gallon (mpg), Class A's run 6-10 mpg, and camper vans can hit 14-20 mpg. Illinois gas prices typically run 20-50 cents above the national average (the Chicago metro recently averaged around $4.30-$5.00 per gallon for regular), and prices drop noticeably the moment you cross into Indiana or downstate Illinois. Pro tip: fill up in west suburban towns like Hillside or Westchester before leaving Bellwood, and avoid filling up inside Chicago city limits where taxes are highest. Travel trailers towed by a pickup will be your most fuel-efficient option for longer trips.
fueleconomy.gov/feg/gasprices/states/IL.shtml

How far in advance should I book a campground for my Bellwood RV trip?

Sooner is better, especially for Illinois state parks. Starved Rock State Park Campground accepts reservations through camp.exploremoreil.com up to 6 months in advance, and summer weekends often fill the day they open. Chain O'Lakes and Illinois Beach State Park follow the same 6-month window. Private campgrounds like Chicago Northwest KOA and Camp Bullfrog Lake typically allow booking many months out. For RV camping Bellwood weekend trips between Memorial Day and Labor Day, aim to book at least 8 weeks ahead. Insider tip: Sunday and Monday arrivals are easier to score last-minute than Friday or Saturday, and often cost less.

What's it like driving an RV through the Bellwood and Chicago area?

Easier than you'd think if you plan smart. Bellwood sits right on I-290 (the Eisenhower), which is a wide, flat interstate connecting straight to I-294 and I-88, so you can be out of the metro area in 20-30 minutes without ever touching downtown Chicago. Avoid Lower Wacker Drive, Lake Shore Drive, and any street with low railroad viaducts (some clearances drop below 11 feet in the city), and never drive a tall RV through downtown. Watch for rush hour 7-9 a.m. and 3-7 p.m., and remember Illinois interstates have a 70 mph limit but most RVs cruise best at 60-65. Choose delivery if you'd rather skip city driving altogether.
idot.illinois.gov/travel-information/road-conditions.html

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Bellwood?

Most campgrounds within 2 hours of Bellwood offer the essentials and then some. Illinois state parks like Starved Rock provide 30-amp and 50-amp electric hookups, water hydrants throughout the campground, shower houses with flush toilets, and a dump station near the entrance, though many sites are electric-only without individual water or sewer hookups. Private parks like Chicago Northwest KOA and Camp Bullfrog Lake commonly offer full hookups (water, sewer, electric), Wi-Fi, pools, and laundry. To dump tanks on the road, look for Flying J, Pilot, or Love's travel centers along I-80 and I-90, where a dump usually runs about $10 to $20. Top off your fresh water tank before leaving the campground.

What's inside a typical RV rental in Bellwood?

More creature comforts than you'd expect. A typical motorhome rental Bellwood includes a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa beds (sleeping 4-8 total), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning and a furnace for Illinois's 100-degree summers and chilly fall nights, and seatbelts for safe travel. Many also come with a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and onboard generator for off-grid power. Camper vans (Class B) are more compact but still include a bed, mini-kitchen, and often a wet bath. Each RVezy listing shows exactly what's included, so you'll know before you book.

What add-ons and pickup options should I expect on RVezy?

Hosts offer many ways to customize your trip. Common add-ons for a campervan rental Bellwood or motorhome include linen and kitchen packages, camp chairs and outdoor gear, generator use, and pre-stocked propane or bikes, with typical prices ranging from about $20 to $75 per item or package. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a nearby lot, often in suburbs like Bellwood, Maywood, Berkeley, or Oak Park, and many hosts also offer delivery for around $2 to $5 per mile. Mileage policies vary, with 100 to 150 free miles per night being common and RV rental with unlimited mileage available on select listings. Each listing shows the specific mileage, generator, and pet policies, or you can message the host directly.

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is straightforward and fully handled through the RVezy platform, with no cash or off-platform transactions. You pay your trip total at the time of booking using a credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit is authorized separately, typically around the time of pickup, in an amount set by the host based on the RV. As long as you return the RV in the same condition and follow the host's mileage and generator policies, the deposit is released back to your card after the trip ends. To avoid disputes, take time-stamped photos of the RV's interior and exterior at pickup and dropoff for a smooth Bellwood RV rental experience.
