Wonderful across the board. The RV was clean, drove perfectly (mountains of Colorado and New Mexico), and was impeccably organized. They have clearly thought through all the things that might be needed on a long trip and made them easily accessible. The toilet cassette was easy to empty (particularly in a latrine -- 3-5 minutes with no mess). The refrigerator and cabinets have plenty of space and beds were comfortable. It was easy to stop and sleep overnight in parks. We were really pleased and would happily rent this RV again.

What kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Countryside, IL?

Good news: for the vast majority of RVs you'll rent in Countryside, IL, your regular Class D driver's license is all you need. Illinois ties non-commercial license classes to vehicle weight, but personal-use recreational vehicles under 16,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) (which covers almost every campervan, travel trailer, and Class C on RVezy) are driveable on a standard license. Out-of-state and visiting drivers are recognized under their home state or province license. You'll need to be at least 25 years old to rent on RVezy, and your ID is verified securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit before your trip and you're ready to roll.

Is my RV rental in Countryside, IL covered by insurance and roadside assistance?

Yes, and that's one of the best parts of booking through RVezy. Every RV rental in Countryside, IL booked on the platform includes a protection package plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you're never stranded if you get a flat on I-55 or need help leveling at your campsite. During checkout you'll choose your protection level, which covers most accidental damage to the vehicle (this isn't traditional auto insurance, but it provides real financial peace of mind). Hosts don't choose your coverage, you do, which means you control the level of reassurance that fits your trip. Pro tip: pick the higher tier if you're a first-time renter heading into Chicago traffic, it costs a little more and removes a lot of worry.

What's the cancellation policy if my Countryside, IL RV trip plans change?

You can book with confidence. RVezy sets a clear cancellation policy that includes a full money-back grace period after booking, so you have breathing room if life shifts. Cancellation terms vary based on how far in advance you cancel and whether unusual circumstances like severe weather or natural disasters affect your trip (always a possibility with Illinois thunderstorms or winter storms). Hosts do not set their own cancellation rules on RVezy, the platform handles this uniformly so you're not navigating different policies on every listing. If something comes up, our support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Visit the RVezy Help Center to see the current cancellation details before you book your Countryside RV trip.

Many travelers from Countryside head north to Door County or the Wisconsin Dells, or east along Lake Michigan into Indiana and Michigan. Travel into Canada may be permitted depending on the specific host and insurance terms, so message the owner directly through the listing to confirm before booking. One important note: travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because protection coverage doesn't extend there. How much should I budget for fuel on a Countryside, IL RV trip?

Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, but it's easy to plan for. Most Class C motorhomes you'll rent in the Chicago area get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A units 6 to 10 MPG, and campervans and truck campers 14 to 20 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Gas prices in the Countryside area typically run a bit above the national average due to Illinois fuel taxes, with stations along Joliet Road and La Grange Road usually a few cents cheaper than tollway plazas. Pro tip: fill up west of I-294 before heading north or east, and use apps like GasBuddy to spot the cheapest stations along your route. Diesel rigs go farther but cost more per gallon, so the math evens out.

How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Countryside, IL?

Book early, the Chicago metro area campground supply is genuinely tight. For Illinois state parks like Starved Rock, Illinois Beach, or Chain O'Lakes, reservations open six months in advance through Reserve America and the most popular weekends sell out within hours. Cook County Forest Preserve campgrounds (Camp Bullfrog Lake, Camp Sullivan, Camp Reinberg) take reservations through their official site and fill summer weekends four to eight weeks ahead. Private parks like the Chicago Northwest KOA in Union are slightly easier but still busy on holiday weekends. Pro tip: if you're targeting a July or Labor Day trip, lock in your campground first, then book your RV on RVezy around that confirmed reservation, it's much easier than the other way around.

What are driving conditions like around Countryside, IL?

Countryside sits right at the intersection of I-55, I-294, and Joliet Road, so you've got highway access in every direction, with a few things to know. Chicago-area traffic is heaviest weekdays 6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m., so plan your pickup or departure outside those windows. The Illinois Tollway uses cashless I-PASS or pay-by-plate, your host will usually advise on how to handle tolls. Winter brings snow and ice from December to February, and severe thunderstorms with possible tornadoes peak in April and May. The terrain is famously flat, which makes for easy RV driving once you're outside the city. Pro tip: avoid driving a tall RV near downtown Chicago, height-restricted Lower Wacker Drive and parking-garage entrances are notorious. Stick to the highways or use delivery.

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Countryside, IL?

Local campgrounds offer a mix that fits any travel style. Camp Bullfrog Lake has electric and water hookups, a dump station, modern bathhouses, and accepts rigs up to about 38 feet. Camp Sullivan and Camp Reinberg offer electric-only sites (no dump on site, but Bullfrog Lake's dump is just 20 minutes away). The KOA in Union and Fish Lake Beach Resort offer full hookups including sewer, plus pools, playgrounds, and Wi-Fi. Most Illinois state parks have Class A or A-Premium sites with 50-amp electric and shower buildings. Pro tip: if you're staying at an electric-only site, freshwater is usually available at a central fill station, just bring a 25-foot drinking-safe hose and a Y-splitter so you can fill up without unhooking your neighbor.

How does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Countryside, IL?

Payment is simple, secure, and entirely handled through RVezy, so you never exchange cash or send money outside the platform. A separate security deposit is pre-authorized (not charged) on your card before pickup, typically ranging from $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV, and it's released after the trip assuming no damage or policy violations. Pro tip: do a thorough walkaround with the host at pickup and again at dropoff, take dated photos and videos of the interior and exterior, and review the fuel and propane levels together. This ten-minute habit is the single best way to ensure your deposit comes back fast and stress-free.
