Wonderful across the board. The RV was clean, drove perfectly (mountains of Colorado and New Mexico), and was impeccably organized. They have clearly thought through all the things that might be needed on a long trip and made them easily accessible. The toilet cassette was easy to empty (particularly in a latrine -- 3-5 minutes with no mess). The refrigerator and cabinets have plenty of space and beds were comfortable. It was easy to stop and sleep overnight in parks. We were really pleased and would happily rent this RV again.

What kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Hillside?

Good news for visitors: your regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Hillside, IL for the vast majority of motorhomes and trailers on RVezy. Illinois ties license class to weight, but the Class D covers any vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 16,000 pounds or less, which includes nearly every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, and travel trailer on the platform. Out-of-state guests can drive under their home state license. Approved renters on RVezy are generally 25 or older, and ID is verified through the platform during booking, so there's nothing extra to chase down before pickup.

Is the RV protected if something goes wrong during my trip?

Yes, every RV rental in Hillside booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit I-290 or the Eisenhower with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damages to the vehicle and provides meaningful financial protection for renters. You choose your coverage level during checkout, with options ranging from basic to premium so you can match your comfort level to your trip. For a first-time renter heading out from the Chicago suburbs, the higher tier is a small price for not worrying about a parking-lot ding at Brookfield Zoo.

What happens if I need to cancel my Hillside RV rental?

Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy on every reservation, not the individual host, so the terms are consistent and transparent. Refund eligibility depends on how far out from your trip start date you cancel, which matters for Midwest travel where a Chicago blizzard or summer storm can rearrange plans fast. You'll see the full policy details on the RVezy site before you confirm, and the support team is available to help walk you through it if a host cancels or your plans change.

How does mileage work, and how far can I drive on a Hillside RV trip?

Hosts set their own mileage policies on RVezy, and many Hillside listings include a generous daily allowance (often 100 to 150 free miles per day) with a modest per-mile fee after that. Some hosts even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is gold for a long road trip. From Hillside you're well positioned for big adventures: Starved Rock State Park is about 90 miles southwest, Indiana Dunes National Park is around 60 miles east, Wisconsin Dells is roughly 200 miles north, and Galena sits about 165 miles west. Estimate your total miles before booking and ask the host to bundle a mileage package if you'll exceed the included allowance.

Where can I park or camp my RV near Hillside, IL?

You're in a sweet spot for RV camping Hillside: a handful of well-rated campgrounds sit within easy driving distance. Fox Bluff RV Resort in Yorkville (about 40 miles southwest) offers full hookups on the Fox River. Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Resort in Joliet (around 35 miles south) has paved sites and resort-style amenities. For something closer to nature, Chain O' Lakes State Park (about 55 miles north) has Class A and B campsites with electric hookups. Overnight RV parking inside Hillside village limits is restricted, so book a campsite for your nightly stays.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Hillside?

The sweet spot for an RV road trip from Hillside is mid-May through late September, when daytime highs sit between 70F and 85F and Chicagoland's festivals, beaches, and forest preserves are in full swing. July is the warmest month, with average highs in the mid-80s, making it ideal for Lake Michigan getaways, while September offers crisp mornings, fewer bugs, and gorgeous fall color trips to Starved Rock. Shoulder seasons (late April and early October) bring lower nightly rates and easier campground bookings. Winter trips are possible with a four-season RV, but January averages near freezing and snow runs from November into March, so most renters stick to the warmer months.

I've never driven an RV before. Is renting in Hillside really doable?

Yes, first time renting an RV in the Chicago suburbs is genuinely easier than most people expect, and Hillside is a smart starting point because you're right off I-290 and I-294 with quick access to wide-open suburban roads before you ever face downtown traffic. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, propane, water, slide-outs, and the dashboard, and you can message them anytime during your trip. Many first-timers choose a 24-foot Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer for easier handling. Pro tip: ask your host about delivery to your campground so your first drive can be a relaxed one home.

What if I break down or have trouble on the road?

Take a deep breath: 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every RV rental in Hillside booked on RVezy, as part of the standard renter protection plan. Whether you've got a flat on the Stevenson Expressway, a dead battery at a Starved Rock trailhead, or a propane issue at midnight, one phone call connects you with help. Your host is also typically just a message away for quick how-to questions about the rig's specific systems, and RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number on your phone during pickup so it's ready if you ever need it.

Can I take my Hillside RV rental into Wisconsin, Indiana, or Canada?

Yes, interstate travel is welcomed on most RVezy bookings, and Hillside's location makes it a launching pad for an epic RV road trip from Hillside. Popular routes include north to Wisconsin Dells (around 200 miles), east to Michigan's lakeshore (about 180 miles to Saugatuck), or south to Shawnee National Forest (roughly 350 miles). Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance, so message the listing owner before booking to confirm. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across that border. Always confirm cross-border plans in writing through the RVezy chat so it's part of your booking record.

How much should I budget for fuel on a Hillside RV trip?

Plan around realistic numbers and you'll be set: most Class C motorhomes near Hillside get 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, and travel trailers don't burn extra fuel themselves but lower your tow vehicle's MPG by 20 to 30 percent. Illinois gas prices typically run above the national average, with regular unleaded often in the $3.40 to $3.90 per gallon range in the Chicago metro, and the state has a higher fuel tax than neighboring Indiana. Pro tip: fill up just over the Indiana border on your way to Indiana Dunes National Park to shave a noticeable amount off your fuel bill.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Hillside?

Book early and breathe easy: Illinois state park campsites at popular destinations like Starved Rock, Chain O' Lakes, and Illinois Beach State Park can be reserved through the Illinois DNR reservation system up to six months in advance, and prime summer weekends (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day) often sell out quickly. Holiday weekends typically require a multi-night minimum, and reservation fees apply. Private parks like Fox Bluff RV Resort take direct online bookings and fill up by April for peak summer. Pro tip: aim for a Sunday-through-Thursday trip and you'll often snag the best campgrounds near Hillside with less competition.

What's it like driving an RV around Chicago and the suburbs?

Hillside sits at the crossroads of I-290, I-294, and I-88, which actually makes RV driving easier than people fear, since you can reach state highways and open country without ever entering the Loop. The big caution for motorhome rental Hillside trips: Chicago has many low-clearance bridges, especially along Lake Shore Drive and older underpasses where clearances can dip below 10 feet. Stick to interstates, know your RV's exact height (your host will tell you at pickup), and use an RV-specific GPS or app like RV Trip Wizard. Pro tip: avoid weekday rush hour (6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m.) on the Eisenhower (I-290) for a much calmer drive.
idot.illinois.gov/

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Hillside?

Campgrounds within an hour or two of Hillside cover the full range. Private parks like Fox Bluff RV Resort and Hollywood Casino RV Resort in Joliet offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, dump stations, hot showers, laundry, and pet areas. Illinois state parks like Chain O' Lakes and Starved Rock provide electric hookups at many sites, central water fill-up stations, dump stations, and showers at developed campgrounds. Basic campsites generally run $30 to $70 per night, while resort-style sites run $80 to $120. Pro tip: keep a freshwater hose and a sewer hose in the RV bay so you're set whether you land at a luxury resort or a rustic state park loop.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks.html

What's included inside a typical RV rental from Hillside?

Most RV rentals in Hillside, IL come trip-ready. Expect a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink, cookware), a bathroom with toilet and shower, comfortable sleeping for 2 to 8 depending on size, a dinette that converts to a bed, heat and air conditioning, and DOT-compliant seatbelts for travel. Many listings also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, propane grill, and a generator for boondocking. Wi-Fi is offered by some hosts, but cell-based hotspots are common since campground Wi-Fi can be spotty. Linens, towels, and kitchenware are often included or available as low-cost add-ons. Check the listing's amenities tab and message the host to confirm anything specific you need.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Hillside,Illinois

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?

RVezy hosts in Hillside offer plenty of popular add-ons to make your trip easier: bedding and linen packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), camping chairs and outdoor gear, bike racks, generators, portable grills, and pre-filled propane. Delivery and setup is a big favorite, with fees typically a few dollars per mile from the host's location. Pickup logistics are flexible: most hosts meet you at their home base in or near Hillside for a 30 to 60-minute walkthrough. Mileage policies vary by listing, so look for that detail before booking. Pro tip: ask about a generator add-on if you're heading to a state park with limited electric hookups.

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is straightforward and secure: when you book an RV rental Illinois trip on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card (never directly to the host), so your trip is documented and protected. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before the trip starts, with the amount varying by RV and the protection plan you choose. The hold is released after the trip ends, assuming there's no damage beyond normal wear. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video with your host at both pickup and drop-off so any pre-existing scuffs are documented and your deposit comes back fast.
