Wonderful across the board. The RV was clean, drove perfectly (mountains of Colorado and New Mexico), and was impeccably organized. They have clearly thought through all the things that might be needed on a long trip and made them easily accessible. The toilet cassette was easy to empty (particularly in a latrine -- 3-5 minutes with no mess). The refrigerator and cabinets have plenty of space and beds were comfortable. It was easy to stop and sleep overnight in parks. We were really pleased and would happily rent this RV again.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Lombard, Illinois?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Lombard for almost every motorhome and trailer on RVezy. Illinois Secretary of State rules exempt recreational vehicles used for personal purposes from the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) requirement, so your standard Class D license covers the Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers you'll see on the platform. I've never rented an RV before, will I be okay driving one in Lombard?

You've got this, first time renting an RV is easier than people expect, especially in Lombard. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving tips, hookups, the generator, slide-outs, and tank dumping before you ever turn the key. Lombard's grid-style streets and easy access to I-355, I-88, and the Reagan Memorial Tollway mean you can avoid downtown Chicago entirely. Stick to wider arterials like Roosevelt Road, North Avenue, and Butterfield Road. If city driving still feels intimidating, choose a host who offers delivery so the RV meets you at your campground. RVezy support is also available 24/7 if questions come up mid-trip.

Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the RV plate, VIN, and emergency kit location during your walkthrough so you have everything ready if you ever need to call for help.

Expect roughly 8 to 10 MPG for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 15 to 20 MPG for a Class B campervan, and around 12 to 18 MPG for a truck towing a travel trailer. What are driving conditions like around Lombard for an RV?

Lombard is one of the more RV-friendly suburbs in the Chicago metro because you can reach the interstates without ever entering the city. I-355, I-88, and I-290 are flat, wide, and well-maintained, and the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) is a smooth straight shot west toward Iowa. Avoid Lake Shore Drive (no commercial-style vehicles allowed) and watch for low clearances under viaducts in older Chicago neighborhoods (some as low as 11 feet). Summer thunderstorms and winter snow squalls are the main weather hazards, and rush hour on I-290 between 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. is best avoided. Insider tip: leave Lombard before 9 a.m. for a smooth highway exit.

How does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Lombard, IL?

Payment is simple and fully handled through RVezy, so you never hand cash to a host. Your card is charged securely through the platform when you book, with the total split between rental cost, protection plan, service fees, and any add-ons you select. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold a few days before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back clean and undamaged. To avoid any deposit issues on your Lombard RV trip, do a quick photo walkaround at pickup and drop-off, dump the tanks, and refill the fuel to the same level. Easy.

Can I do a winter or cold-weather RV trip from Lombard?

Yes, a winter RV trip from Lombard can be a real adventure if you choose the right rig. Look for RVezy listings labeled four-season or with heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, and a strong furnace, then plan to stay at a campground with electric (shore power) hookups so you can run heaters without draining the battery. Starved Rock State Park is gorgeous when its sandstone canyons freeze into icefalls, and Indiana Dunes stays open year-round. Lombard winters run from the teens to the 30s with occasional sub-zero stretches, so pack extra blankets, RV antifreeze for the tanks, and a heated water hose. Insider tip: a campervan rental Lombard makes winter trips way easier than a big Class A.
