My wife and I both want to thank Juan for making the start of our camper trip great. Juan met with us and introduced himself, he had the camper already set up for preview and gave us a detailed tour of the camper, including sanitation, and instrumentation. We then went over the paperwork and everything went smoothly. I can honestly say it was a pleasure dealing with Juan. Our trip in itself was great as we took off to see Americana covering from Florida to Iowa and back. It was beautiful country, and the people were very pleasant. Just to see those beautiful cornfields for miles in rows humble you. God bless our farmers. The camper itself ran smoothly with no mechanical failures or concerns. The vehicle is well maintained. Now for the negative. I may have lost or had stolen off the vehicle three hubcaps. Lesson learned: equipment security is important and a check should be done periodically. When checking tires make sure you hubcaps are there. My overall evaluation is that I would gladly do business with Juan again. I know I could count on him and His Sunseeker camper. Thanks again Juan We appreciate you.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip to Knoxville, Iowa?

Late spring through early fall is your sweet spot. May through October delivers the most reliable weather for RV camping Knoxville visitors enjoy, with summer highs typically in the low to upper 80s Fahrenheit and crisp October days in the 60s, perfect for hiking around Lake Red Rock. June brings lush Iowa countryside, August means the legendary Knoxville Nationals sprint car races (book six to nine months out), and September and October bring oak-hickory fall colors with fewer crowds. Winters dip well below freezing and most lakeside campgrounds close from late October to mid-April, so plan a warmer-weather trip for your first visit.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I know how to use it?

Yes, and you'll feel like a pro by the end of day one. If it's your first time renting an RV, your RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup or delivery covering propane, water, slide-outs, the generator, and dumping tanks, then they stay reachable by message throughout your trip. Many Knoxville hosts even leave printed cheat sheets in the rig. Start with a shorter trip to Lake Red Rock (just 10 minutes north of town) before tackling longer routes, and don't hesitate to call RVezy's 24/7 support team if anything feels off. Most first-time renters tell us the orientation removed every worry within 20 minutes.

What happens if something breaks down during my Knoxville RV trip?

You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 14, a dead battery at a Lake Red Rock campground, or a needed tow is one phone call away. Your host is also typically available by message for quick fixes like resetting a tripped breaker or relighting a water heater pilot. Knoxville sits about 40 miles from Des Moines, so parts and service centers are close if anything serious comes up. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's roadside assistance card at pickup so the number is always one tap away.

Can I take my Knoxville RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals, so an RV road trip from Knoxville to the Black Hills of South Dakota (about 9 hours), Chicago (5 hours), the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri (4 hours), or the Mississippi River Great River Road are all on the table. Cross-border travel into Canada may also be allowed depending on the host and the insurance backing the rental, so message the host before booking if Canada is on your itinerary. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Confirm your route with your host and you're set to roam.

What kind of fuel economy and budget should I plan for?

Iowa is one of the more fuel-friendly states for RV travel. Class C motorhomes near Knoxville average 8 to 12 miles per gallon, travel trailers add roughly 30 to 40 percent to your tow vehicle's normal fuel use, and Class B campervans often deliver 16 to 20 MPG. Regular gas in the Knoxville and Des Moines area typically runs near or below the national average. Budget roughly $80 to $130 in fuel for a round trip from Knoxville to Iowa City or Omaha. Pro tip: fuel up at Casey's General Store, an Iowa institution, before heading out of town for consistently fair pricing.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Knoxville?

Earlier is better, especially for lakeside sites. Lake Red Rock campgrounds run by the US Army Corps of Engineers (Whitebreast, North Overlook, Wallashuck) take reservations on Recreation.gov, and prime weekends like Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day fill within hours of opening. Marion County Park bookings go through Marion County's reservation system. For Knoxville Nationals week in August, book your campground and your RVezy rental nine to twelve months out, as sites near the raceway sell out a full year ahead. Off-peak weekdays in June or September can often be booked a week out with no problem.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2640

What are driving conditions like around Knoxville?

Knoxville is one of the easier places in the Midwest to drive an RV. Highway 14 runs straight through town with wide lanes, gentle rolling hills, and minimal traffic outside Nationals week. Iowa's terrain is flat to gently rolling, with no mountain passes or narrow switchbacks, and Interstate 80 (about 30 miles north) makes east-west travel easy. Watch for spring thunderstorms with possible hail and the occasional summer tornado warning, so download the National Weather Service app and check the Des Moines forecast office. In winter, snow and ice can make rural roads slick, which is another reason most renters target April through October.

What hookups and amenities can I expect at Knoxville-area campgrounds?

Knoxville-area campgrounds punch above their weight on amenities. Marion County Park offers electric and water at sites plus a dump station and showers. Lake Red Rock US Army Corps campgrounds (Whitebreast, North Overlook, Wallashuck) provide 30/50-amp electric at most sites, shared water spigots, dump stations, swim beaches, and boat ramps. Elk Rock State Park has 30 and 50-amp electric sites without individual water or sewer hookups. Pro tip: fill your fresh water tank before leaving town and use the dump station on your way out to keep your trip running smoothly.

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is simple and transparent. You pay securely through RVezy at booking (never directly to the host) with a major credit or debit card, and your nightly rate, fees, protection plan, and any add-ons all appear in one clear total at checkout. The refundable security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is handled before pickup, then released after you return the RV in the same condition. To avoid issues, take time-stamped photos and a short walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's mileage and dumping policies, and keep all messages in the RVezy app so there is a clear record.

What can I actually do in Knoxville with my RV rental?

You are parked in one of Iowa's most fun small-town playgrounds. Knoxville is the self-proclaimed Sprint Car Capital of the World, so catch a Saturday-night race at Knoxville Raceway (typically April through September) and tour the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum right next door. Spend days on Lake Red Rock fishing, kayaking, or hiking the Volksweg Trail. Drive about 15 minutes east to Pella for Dutch pastries and the Vermeer Windmill, one of the tallest working windmills in North America. It is an underrated family RV trip Knoxville locals are proud to share.
