In a word - excellent. That’s how I would describe the experience with Steve and his RV. Well-appointed, very clean, and a comprehensive manual for renters. Steve (and his wife and son) were such great collaborators in general, particularly for a festival drop off that was anything but straightforward! Next May, I will be renting from Steve again if the RV is available.

Good value for the money. Rv was in good condition and ready to go on pickup. Everyone was very friendly, helpful and responsive. 9/10 would rent from again, 9 only for the purposes that we may rent a bigger rv in the future. But it reasonably accommodated 9 people for its size. We had a great trip.

Can I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Johnstown, OH?

Absolutely, and central Ohio is a fantastic region for traveling with dogs. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to find a pet-friendly RV rental Johnstown hosts have approved for furry passengers, then head to dog-welcoming spots like Alum Creek State Park (which has a popular dog beach, about 25 miles west) or the leash-friendly trails at Blackhand Gorge State Nature Preserve near Newark. Most Ohio State Park campgrounds allow leashed pets on trails and at sites. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and bring a long tie-out for shaded picnic areas at Buckeye Lake KOA.

Can the RV be delivered to my campground in the Johnstown area?

Many RVezy hosts in the Licking County and Columbus area offer to deliver, level, and set up the RV at your chosen campground, then walk you through every system before they leave. When is the best time to rent an RV in Johnstown, OH?

Late April through mid-October is prime RV camping Johnstown season, with sweet spots in mid-May to mid-June and September. Daytime highs in those windows sit comfortably between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, evenings cool to the 50s (perfect for campfires), and humidity stays manageable. July and August average highs near 83 degrees with higher humidity, while winters drop to around a 20-degree average low with snow, so most local campgrounds close from November to March. Pro tip: book a Hocking Hills trip in early October for peak fall color, and lock in weekend sites two to three months ahead.

I have never rented an RV before. How does pickup and orientation work?

You will feel like a pro by the end of your walkthrough. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on orientation at pickup, typically 45 to 90 minutes, covering the generator, slide-outs, propane, water systems, dumping, and how to safely back into a site. Many Johnstown-area hosts text you a video tour the day before so you can preview everything. First time renting an RV in central Ohio is friendly territory: roads like US-62, OH-37, and US-36 are wide, flat, and lightly trafficked outside Columbus rush hour. Pro tip: ask your host for their phone number and call mid-trip if you need to, they want your trip to go well as much as you do.

RVezy support is also available around the clock, and your host is your second line of help for RV-specific quirks (like how the awning retracts). Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the VIN and license plate at pickup, it speeds up any service call.

Ohio gas prices usually run a bit below the national average, and Pilot, Love's, and Marathon stations along US-33 and I-71 are RV-friendly with wide aprons. How far in advance should I book a campground near Johnstown?

For Ohio State Parks, the booking window opens six months ahead, and that is your best tool. Alum Creek, Delaware State Park, and Dillon State Park all release sites on a rolling six-month basis through the official Ohio State Parks reservation system, and prime lakefront or full-hookup sites for summer weekends get snapped up quickly. Private campgrounds like Tree Haven and Lazy River at Granville are typically bookable 9 to 12 months out. For a spring or fall midweek trip, two to three weeks ahead is usually fine. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly six months before your target Friday and log in right when reservations open to land the spot.

What are driving conditions like around Johnstown?

Central Ohio is one of the easier regions in the country to drive an RV. Johnstown sits in gently rolling farmland with mostly flat, two-lane highways like US-62, OH-37, and OH-161. The I-270 outerbelt around Columbus is about 20 miles southwest and can get busy during weekday rush hours (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.), so route around it if possible. Watch for low-clearance railroad bridges in older towns like Granville and use a route planner like RV Trip Wizard for any rig over 11 feet tall. Winter brings occasional snow and ice from December to March. Pro tip: the Intel facility construction near New Albany adds truck traffic to OH-161 on weekdays.

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Johnstown?

Central Ohio campgrounds are well-equipped and beginner-friendly. Most sites at Alum Creek State Park, Delaware State Park, and private parks like Tree Haven and Lazy River at Granville offer 30 and 50-amp electric, with many full-hookup sites that include water and sewer. Dump stations are standard, and potable water fill-ups are available at every Ohio State Park campground. Expect picnic tables, fire rings with grills, flush toilets, hot showers, and laundry facilities at most parks. Cell service is solid across Licking and Delaware counties on all major carriers. Pro tip: Alum Creek has a swimming beach and boat rentals right at the park, so pack swimsuits even on a just-camping weekend.

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform at booking, with the trip total split into a deposit at booking and the balance due before pickup (no cash to the host). A refundable security deposit, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV's value, is pre-authorized on your card a few days before the trip and released after a successful return. Avoid issues by doing a thorough walk-around with the host at pickup and dropoff, taking time-stamped photos and videos of the interior, exterior, tires, and odometer. Pro tip: keep your dump-station receipt, many hosts waive the dump fee add-on when you return the tanks empty.

Where can I dump tanks and refill water near Johnstown?

You have solid options within a short drive. Public and campground dump stations near Johnstown include Tree Haven Camp Grounds (right in town, available to guests), Alum Creek State Park (free for registered campers, small fee for non-campers), Lazy River at Granville, Autumn Lakes Family Campground in Mt. Gilead, and Buckeye Lake KOA off I-70. Most Ohio State Parks also offer free potable water fills for registered campers. Many Pilot and Love's truck stops along I-71 have dump and water service for a small fee. Pro tip: dump on your way home rather than at pickup, you will save a stop and your host will appreciate the empty tanks.
