In a word - excellent. That’s how I would describe the experience with Steve and his RV. Well-appointed, very clean, and a comprehensive manual for renters. Steve (and his wife and son) were such great collaborators in general, particularly for a festival drop off that was anything but straightforward! Next May, I will be renting from Steve again if the RV is available.

Good value for the money. Rv was in good condition and ready to go on pickup. Everyone was very friendly, helpful and responsive. 9/10 would rent from again, 9 only for the purposes that we may rent a bigger rv in the future. But it reasonably accommodated 9 people for its size. We had a great trip.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Sunbury?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Sunbury, Ohio. Ohio does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for recreational vehicles used for personal, non-commercial travel, so even larger Class A motorhomes on RVezy can be driven with your standard license. You'll just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy handles ID confirmation right inside the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home country license. Most first-time renters in the Sunbury area are surprised at how quickly the paperwork wraps up so they can hit the road toward Alum Creek.

Just filter for Pet-Friendly on RVezy and you'll see motorhomes and travel trailers where dogs (and sometimes cats) are welcome. Can the RV be delivered to my campsite or driveway in Sunbury?

Yes, RV delivery in Sunbury is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers. Many local hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer directly to Alum Creek State Park, the Sunbury/Columbus North KOA Holiday, Delaware State Park, or even your driveway, then level it, hook up utilities, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means zero stress about towing or maneuvering a big rig through Sunbury's small downtown square. Delivery fees typically depend on distance from the host's location. Pro tip: filter by Delivery on RVezy, then ask the host to confirm the campsite number so they can park you in perfectly for arrival day.

How does mileage work, and how far can I realistically drive from Sunbury?

Mileage is flexible on RVezy: hosts set their own daily mileage allowance, and many Sunbury listings include 100 to 150 free miles per day, with some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer trips. Sunbury's location right off I-71 makes it a fantastic road trip hub. Popular drives include Hocking Hills State Park (about 90 miles south, under 2 hours), Cuyahoga Valley National Park (about 130 miles northeast), Amish Country in Holmes County (about 70 miles east), and Lake Erie at Cedar Point (about 110 miles north). Pro tip: if you're planning a bigger loop through Ohio, filter listings by mileage allowance and message hosts to add miles upfront if needed.

Where are the best campgrounds near Sunbury for an RV trip?

Sunbury is surrounded by some of central Ohio's best RV camping. Top picks include: Alum Creek State Park Campground (about 10 minutes west, with nearly 300 electric sites along a 3,387-acre reservoir and the largest inland beach in Ohio); Sunbury/Columbus North KOA Holiday (just outside town with a pool and full-hookup pull-throughs); Delaware State Park Campground (about 20 minutes northwest with lakeside electric sites); Cross Creek Camping Resort (themed weekends and full hookups); and Berkshire Lake Campground (a relaxed local favorite). Pro tip: state park sites at Alum Creek open six months in advance on ReserveOhio and book fast for summer weekends, so set a calendar reminder.

When is the best time of year for RV camping in Sunbury?

Sunbury has a true four-season climate, and the sweet spot for an RV trip runs from late April through mid-October. Late spring (May, mid-50s to low 70s) brings wildflowers along the Olentangy Trail; summer (June through August, highs in the low to mid-80s) is peak swimming and boating season at Alum Creek Reservoir; and fall (late September through mid-October) delivers beautiful foliage with crisp 60-degree days. Winter is genuinely cold (January highs around the low 30s F) and many state park bathhouses close, though some private parks like the Sunbury KOA stay open seasonally. Pro tip: book your RV camping in Sunbury for late September for fall color, warm days, and thinner crowds at Hocking Hills.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I actually know how to use it?

Yes, and that's the beauty of renting through RVezy: you're never left to figure it out alone. Every host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery), covering the generator, propane, slide-outs, water hookups, holding tanks, and how to safely drive the rig. First time renting an RV in Sunbury? Most local hosts specialize in beginner-friendly Class C motorhomes and travel trailers under 30 feet, which handle a lot like driving a large van. You can also message the host with questions before booking and during the trip. Pro tip: ask your host to record a quick video walkthrough you can replay at the campground when you're hooking up for the first time at Alum Creek.

What happens if something goes wrong on the road?

You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat tire on I-71 near Sunbury, lock yourself out at the KOA, or have a battery issue at Alum Creek, help is one phone call away. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after your trip to help coordinate solutions, and your host is typically a quick message away for questions about the rig's specific systems. Central Ohio is well-served by RV repair shops in Columbus, Westerville, and Delaware, all within 30 minutes of Sunbury. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before pickup so it's there when you need it.

Can I take my Sunbury RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Yes, most hosts welcome interstate travel, which makes Sunbury a fantastic launch point for a multi-state RV road trip. From Sunbury you're a comfortable day's drive from Kentucky bourbon country, Michigan's Great Lakes shoreline, Pennsylvania's Allegheny National Forest, and West Virginia's New River Gorge National Park. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the specific host and their insurance, so message the host directly to confirm before booking. One important note: travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: a popular RV road trip from Sunbury is the loop south to Hocking Hills, east to Wheeling, WV, and back through Ohio Amish Country.

What should I budget for fuel on a Sunbury RV trip?

Fuel is usually the biggest variable, but it's easy to budget once you know the math. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans average 16 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 mpg combined). Ohio gas prices fluctuate but tend to track near the national average, and Sunbury sits near competitive Speedway and Marathon stations along US-36 and I-71. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $110 to $160 in fuel depending on current prices. Pro tip: fill up in Sunbury or Delaware before heading into Hocking Hills, where rural stations often charge a premium.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/

How far ahead should I book campgrounds around Sunbury?

Earlier is better, especially for summer weekends. Alum Creek State Park and Delaware State Park release reservations six months in advance through ReserveOhio (the official Ohio State Parks booking site), and prime lakeside sites can sell out within hours of opening for Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends. Private parks like the Sunbury/Columbus North KOA Holiday and Cross Creek Camping Resort book through their own websites and tend to fill 2 to 3 months out for peak weekends. Pro tip: if your dates are flexible, target Sunday-through-Thursday nights at Alum Creek; you'll often find lakeview full-hookup sites available even in July.
reserveohio.com/

What are driving conditions like around Sunbury?

Driving an RV around Sunbury is refreshingly easy. The area is gently rolling farmland with wide, well-maintained roads and minimal mountain terrain. I-71 runs right alongside town and is the main artery north to Cleveland or south to Columbus and Cincinnati. US-36 and OH-37 are the main east-west routes and handle large rigs comfortably. Watch for occasional Amish horse-drawn buggies on rural roads east of Sunbury toward Mount Vernon. Winter (December through February) can bring snow squalls and icy patches, so winter renters should drive cautiously. Pro tip: avoid downtown Columbus during morning and evening rush hour on I-71; stick to OH-3 or US-23 if you're heading west, and you'll dodge the worst city traffic.

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Sunbury?

Central Ohio campgrounds are well-equipped for RV travelers. Alum Creek State Park has nearly 300 sites with electric (including full-hookup options), hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, and a swimming beach with concession stand. The Sunbury/Columbus North KOA Holiday offers 50-amp full hookups, a pool, laundry, propane fills, and reliable campground Wi-Fi. Delaware State Park has electric sites, showers, and a boat ramp. Most local parks have on-site dump stations and potable water fills, so you'll rarely need to detour for either. Pro tip: the dump station at Alum Creek is near the campground entrance, so plan to dump on your way out for a smooth checkout.

What's actually included inside the RV I'm renting?

More than you'd expect. A typical motorhome rental in Sunbury comes fully equipped with a queen or king bed, kitchen with fridge, microwave, stove and sink, bathroom with toilet and shower, dinette that often converts to extra sleeping, air conditioning, furnace, and often a TV. Most Class C and Class A rigs include a generator for off-grid power, and many hosts include kitchenware, bedding, and outdoor chairs as standard. Cellular signal is generally strong throughout Delaware County for hotspot use. Seatbelts are provided for the number of travelers the RV is rated to seat. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities checklist carefully, and message the host if you need specifics like a coffee maker, BBQ grill, or kid-friendly extras.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sunbury%2C%20Ohio

What add-ons can I get with my Sunbury RV rental?

Sunbury hosts offer a wide range of add-ons to customize your trip. Common options include bed and bath linens packages, kitchen kits, outdoor camping chairs, propane fire pits, generator hours, bike racks, BBQ grills, and even kayak rentals (handy for Alum Creek Reservoir). Pickup is typically at the host's home in or near Sunbury, with most hosts offering a 30 to 45-minute orientation walkthrough at no charge. Drop-off is usually at the same location, though many hosts offer paid delivery and pickup at campgrounds. Mileage policies vary by listing, with daily caps typically between 100 and 200 free miles. Pro tip: bundle add-ons during booking rather than asking later, since many hosts offer better pricing on packaged extras.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sunbury%2C%20Ohio

How does payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy's platform when you book, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. Your card is charged for the rental, taxes, and any add-ons at booking. A refundable security deposit is also held separately from the booking payment (amount varies by listing, often in the $500 to $1,500 range), and it's released back to you after the trip assuming everything is returned in good shape. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkthrough at pickup, take date-stamped photos and videos of the RV's exterior and interior, and document existing damage. Pro tip: keep all receipts for fuel and propane refills (most hosts require the RV returned with the same levels) so you have a clear paper trail at drop-off.

Is a Sunbury RV trip good for families?

It's one of the best family RV destinations in Ohio. A family RV trip from Sunbury puts you about 30 minutes from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium (consistently ranked among the top zoos in the US), Zoombezi Bay water park, and COSI science museum. Closer to home, Alum Creek's huge sandy beach is perfect for little kids, and the Sunbury/Columbus North KOA features a pool, splash features, and family activities all summer. Most local hosts rent family-sized Class C motorhomes that sleep 6 to 8 with bunk beds. Pro tip: book a campsite closer to the beach and playground loops at Alum Creek, then plan a zoo day mid-week when crowds thin out.
