2020 Jayco Travel Trailer
The camper was well stocked, clean, and comfortable. This is the 2nd time we rented from mike and he is very accommodating. Next time ill have to remember not to pack so much. They even thought of is when the nights got cold and brought us another propane tank, just in case, and we didnt even have to ask. Thanks Mike, for another wonderful fall adventure.

2023 Forest River Travel Trailer
From the beginning of my inquiry, Michael was very communicative and prompt. Booking of their trailer was very easy. He walked me through every portion of the trailer and allowed me to come in advance to ensure I knew how to operate everything. The cleanliness of the camper was above par! They had everything one could need on a camping trip and all I had to bring was food and clothes - they took care of everything else (e.g., linens, towels, soap, dishes, etc.). Easy, relaxing experience!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Altoona, PA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Altoona, PA?
An RV rental in Altoona is one of the most affordable ways to explore central Pennsylvania's Allegheny Mountains. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $75 to $150 per night, while Class C motorhomes and larger Class A coaches range from about $175 to $350 per night, depending on size, age, and amenities. To find a cheap RV rental in Altoona, look at travel trailers (you'll need a tow vehicle) or book mid-week stays in May or September when demand softens. Filter for Delivery so you can skip the tow vehicle entirely and still keep your nightly rate down. Booking 6 to 8 weeks ahead of summer weekends locks in the best inventory.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Altoona,PennsylvaniaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Altoona?
Great news for first-timers: a regular Pennsylvania driver's license (or any valid US/Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Altoona. There's no special endorsement or commercial driver's license required for the motorhomes, campervans, travel trailers, and fifth wheels listed on RVezy. You must be at least 25 years old to be an approved driver on RVezy, and ID is verified securely through the platform during checkout, so there's no paperwork hassle at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home-country license. Most renters are surprised at how simple it is, and your host walks you through everything at the start of your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat's included for protection and roadside help on my Altoona RV rental?
You're covered from the moment you book. Every RVezy booking in Altoona includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat near Horseshoe Curve or have a battery issue at Prince Gallitzin State Park, help is one phone call away. RVezy offers multiple protection plan levels that you select during checkout, providing coverage for damage to the RV with varying deductibles. That means you can rent an RV in Pennsylvania confidently, knowing both the rig and your trip are looked after by RVezy's support team before, during, and after your getaway.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat if I need to cancel my Altoona RV trip?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy across the platform (not individual hosts), and there's a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your Altoona RV rental with confidence. Exact refund amounts depend on how far out your trip start date is and circumstances like severe weather. The full details are on the RVezy website and in your booking confirmation. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds guests or provides travel credits, and the support team is available before, during, and after your trip, so you can plan that Raystown Lake or Horseshoe Curve weekend without second-guessing yourself.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Altoona?
Absolutely, and your pup will love it here. Many hosts on RVezy offer pet-friendly RV rentals in Altoona, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search. Pennsylvania state parks like Canoe Creek and Prince Gallitzin both have designated pet-friendly campsites and miles of dog-walkable trails, and the Lower Trail (a 17-mile rail-trail along the Juniata River) is a tail-wagging favorite. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee, weight limits, or breed notes so everyone's on the same page. Pro tip: pack a towel for muddy paws after the Limestone Trail at Canoe Creek State Park, it can get sloppy after Allegheny rainstorms.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/canoe-creek-state-park.htmlCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Altoona?
Yes, and it's a game-changer for first-timers. Many Altoona hosts on RVezy offer RV delivery directly to popular spots like Prince Gallitzin State Park, Canoe Creek State Park, Raystown Lake campgrounds, or even your friend's driveway in Hollidaysburg. The host arrives ahead of you, levels the RV, hooks up water and electric, and walks you through every system so you can unpack and start relaxing. Just filter listings by Delivery and message the host with your destination address to confirm the fee (usually based on round-trip mileage). This is the easiest way to enjoy RV camping in Altoona without ever towing or driving a big rig yourself.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/prince-gallitzin-state-park.htmlHow far can I drive from Altoona on my RV trip?
Plenty of options are within easy reach. From Altoona, you can run a scenic RV road trip from Altoona to Raystown Lake (about 35 miles east), State College and Penn State (about 45 miles north), Ohiopyle State Park and Fallingwater (about 95 miles southwest), Pittsburgh (about 100 miles west), or Gettysburg (about 130 miles southeast). RVezy hosts set their own mileage policies, and some offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal if you're planning multi-stop loops through the Alleghenies. Always confirm the daily mileage allowance and overage fee on the listing before booking. Pro tip: US-22 east toward Lewistown is a gorgeous, lightly trafficked alternative to the turnpike.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhere are the best campgrounds near Altoona, PA?
You've got fantastic options within 45 minutes of downtown. Top picks include Crooked Run Campground inside Prince Gallitzin State Park (287 sites along 26-mile Glendale Lake), Canoe Creek State Park Campground in Hollidaysburg (great stargazing, limestone-kiln hiking), Wright's Orchard Station Campground in Duncansville (railroad-themed, easy I-99 access), Seven Points Campground on Raystown Lake (huge, lakefront), and Blue Knob State Park Campground (highest skiable mountain in PA with electric hookup sites). State park sites book through the Pennsylvania DCNR reservation system up to 11 months out, so reserve early for summer weekends. Pro tip: shoulder-season weekdays in late September deliver peak fall color and easy site availability.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks.htmlWhen is the best time to visit Altoona in an RV?
Late spring through mid-fall is the sweet spot, with a special shout-out to October. Altoona summers (June through August) average highs of 80 to 85 F and comfortable 60 F nights, perfect for tubing on Raystown Lake or catching an Altoona Curve baseball game. May and September bring 65 to 75 F days, fewer bugs, and lower campground rates. October delivers world-class Allegheny Mountain fall foliage, usually peaking between October 10 and 25, when Horseshoe Curve and Blue Knob look spectacular. Winters drop to 20 to 35 F with regular snow, so most campgrounds close from November through March. If you love quiet trails and fall color, plan your Altoona RV trip for the first three weeks of October.
weather.gov/ctp/I'm first time renting an RV. Will I be okay?
You'll be just fine, most Altoona renters are first-timers. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery) covering the generator, slide-outs, water tanks, propane, and dump procedures, and they're a text message away during your whole trip. The roads around Altoona are first-time friendly too: I-99 is wide, well-maintained, and connects directly to most state parks. Stick to bigger campgrounds like Seven Points or Crooked Run for your first night, both have pull-through sites that don't require backing in. Pro tip: do a slow lap around the Sheetz parking lot on Plank Road before heading out so you get a feel for the rig's turning radius.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether you've got a flat on US-22, a dead battery at Canoe Creek, or a slide-out that won't retract at Prince Gallitzin, you can call a single number and get help dispatched. Your host is also reachable by message in the RVezy app for quick how-to questions (most issues are simple operator fixes once someone walks you through it). For mechanical breakdowns, RVezy's support team helps coordinate repairs so your Altoona RV trip stays on track. Snap photos of every gauge and switch panel during your walkthrough, it speeds up any troubleshooting call.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Altoona RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate road trips are welcome and easy from Altoona's central location. You can cruise into Maryland (Deep Creek Lake is about 2 hours), West Virginia, New York's Finger Lakes, or Ohio without extra paperwork, and the protection plan and roadside assistance follow you across US state lines. Some hosts also allow trips into Canada (Niagara Falls is roughly 5 hours from Altoona), but you'll need to message the host before booking to confirm and arrange any required cross-border documentation. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Popular interstate routes include Altoona to Shenandoah National Park and Altoona to the Adirondacks.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on an Altoona RV road trip?
Easier than you'd think. Gas prices in the Altoona area typically run a bit below the Pennsylvania state average, and central PA has plenty of large-vehicle-friendly stations along I-99, US-22, and US-220 (Sheetz on Plank Road and Pleasant Valley Boulevard both have easy RV access). Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (mpg) for a Class A, 10 to 14 mpg for a Class C, 18 to 22 mpg for a Class B campervan, and 12 to 18 mpg for a truck towing a travel trailer. For a typical 3-night, 250-mile loop hitting Raystown Lake and Prince Gallitzin, budget around $80 to $150 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Altoona before heading into the mountains, prices climb at remote stations.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Altoona?
For Pennsylvania state parks, the earlier the better. The PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) opens reservations 11 months in advance through its online system, and prime weekends at Prince Gallitzin, Canoe Creek, and Blue Knob, especially Memorial Day, July 4th, and October foliage weekends, fill up months out. For private campgrounds like Wright's Orchard Station, Lake Raystown Resort, or Friendship Village, 4 to 8 weeks ahead is usually plenty outside of holidays. Mid-week stays are far easier to grab last-minute. Pro tip: if a Saturday is fully booked, snag a Sunday-through-Tuesday stay instead, you'll often have the lakefront practically to yourself.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/reserve-a-campsite.htmlWhat are the driving conditions like around Altoona?
Very manageable, even for newer RVers. Altoona sits in a valley framed by the Allegheny Front, and the main routes (I-99, US-22, US-220) are modern four-lane highways with gentle grades. You'll handle a few notable climbs and descents, the stretch of US-22 up Cresson Mountain west of Altoona and Skyline Drive near Blue Knob are the steepest, so downshift and use engine braking. Winter brings real snow and ice from December through March, so most renters stick to April through October. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk on rural roads like PA-36 and PA-164. Pro tip: avoid Logan Boulevard near the mall during weekday rush hour, traffic backs up at the Plank Road intersections.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities and hookups do campgrounds near Altoona offer?
Plenty of full-service comfort. Most private parks near Altoona (Wright's Orchard Station, Lake Raystown Resort, Friendship Village, Pleasant Hills) offer full hookups with 30 and 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and Wi-Fi at many sites. Pennsylvania state parks like Prince Gallitzin's Crooked Run and Canoe Creek have a mix of electric and non-electric sites with shared dump stations and potable water fill stations near the entrance. Seven Points on Raystown Lake has a public dump station, which is handy between stops. Bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 50-to-30-amp adapter to cover any site you encounter.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/prince-gallitzin-state-park.htmlWhat features come with a typical motorhome rental in Altoona?
More than you'd expect. A typical motorhome rental in Altoona on RVezy includes sleeping for 4 to 8 people (queen bed, bunks, convertible dinette), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, roof air conditioning, propane furnace, and seatbelts for everyone traveling. Many listings also include a generator, outdoor speakers, a TV, and Wi-Fi hotspots. Campervan rental Altoona options (Class B) are more compact but still include a bed, mini-kitchen, and bathroom in many models. Always check the listing's amenity list and message the host with any must-haves. Pro tip: confirm whether bed linens and kitchen kit are included or offered as an add-on.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rv-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts make customizing easy. Popular add-ons for an RV rental in Altoona include linen and towel packages ($30 to $75), camping chairs and outdoor rugs, bikes for the Lower Trail or Allegrippis Trails at Raystown, generator hours beyond the daily allowance, propane refills, and pet cleaning fees. Pickup is usually at the host's home in the Altoona, Hollidaysburg, Duncansville, or Tyrone area, with most offering a 30 to 60-minute orientation. Many hosts also offer delivery to state parks, which is perfect if you don't want to drive. Mileage policies vary, some include 100 miles per day, others offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage. Bundle linens and a camp chair add-on so you can roll straight from pickup to your campsite at Glendale Lake.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Altoona,PennsylvaniaHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Everything happens securely inside the RVezy platform, no cash, no driveway handoffs. You pay for your booking by credit card on RVezy.com when you reserve. The security deposit is a separate authorization (not charged) on your card before pickup and released after the trip, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition it left in, with no damage, no smoking, and tanks handled per the listing. Deposit amounts typically run $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig's value. To avoid issues: do a thorough photo walk-around at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's mileage and pet rules, and dump tanks if required. Keep all receipts for fuel and propane to make checkout smooth.
