Campgrounds and RV parks near Ahwahnee, CA

Ahwahnee sits in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Madera County, roughly half an hour south of Yosemite National Park's South Entrance on Highway 41. The town serves as a quieter staging area for RV trips into Yosemite, Bass Lake, Sierra National Forest, and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. The immediate area offers a mix of full-hookup commercial parks and forest-service options. Yosemite RV Resort, set in the valley foothills near Coarsegold along Highway 41, offers about 90 sites with full hookups, a pool, and a playground. High Sierra RV Park, Granite Mountain Resort, and Park of the Sierras provide additional hookup options in the Coarsegold and Oakhurst area. For a more rustic stay, Goat Meadow Snow Play Area is an informal site in the Sierra National Forest between Fish Camp and Yosemite, reached by a roughly one-mile unpaved road off Highway 41, and the parking area is also used informally for car camping near the park's south gate. Inside Yosemite, Upper Pines, Lower Pines, and North Pines sit on the Valley floor at about 4,000 feet.

Yosemite campgrounds are reserved through Recreation.gov. Upper Pines, Lower Pines, North Pines, Wawona, and Hodgdon Meadow release sites up to five months in advance on the 15th of each month at 7:00 a.m. Pacific time, in one-month rolling windows. Bridalveil Creek, Crane Flat, Tamarack Flat, White Wolf, Yosemite Creek, and Porcupine Flat release reservations two weeks in advance on a rolling daily window. Logging into a Recreation.gov account before the release time is essential, since sites can only be added to the cart while logged in. Commercial parks in the Ahwahnee and Oakhurst area, including Yosemite RV Resort, High Sierra RV Park, Granite Mountain Resort, and Park of the Sierras, are booked directly through each operator. Goat Meadow is informal Sierra National Forest land and is not reservable.
