Campgrounds near Fairfield, Pennsylvania
Fairfield sits in Adams County at the western edge of the Gettysburg area, close to the South Mountain foothills and roughly ten minutes from Gettysburg National Military Park. The town works well as a quieter base for RV travelers who want battlefield access without staying inside the busier tourist corridor along Baltimore Pike.
Most campgrounds serving Fairfield line the Fairfield Road (PA Route 116) corridor between town and Gettysburg. Granite Hill Campground occupies a 150-acre Civil War era farm on Fairfield Road, and Gettysburg Campground sits along Marsh Creek about three miles west of downtown Gettysburg. Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA Holiday, Gettysburg Battlefield Resort, and Round Top Campground round out the nearby options, all within a short drive of the park.
Gettysburg National Military Park itself does not operate public RV campgrounds, so travelers rely entirely on these privately owned parks. Sites range from full-hookup pull-throughs for large rigs to shaded creekside tent areas, and most operators run a seasonal calendar rather than year-round hookups.
Things to do near Fairfield
The main draw is Gettysburg National Military Park. Start at the Museum and Visitor Center on Baltimore Pike, then follow the self-guided auto tour of the battlefield, join a ranger program, or hire a Licensed Battlefield Guide. The adjacent Eisenhower National Historic Site preserves President Eisenhower's home and farm and is reached by shuttle from the visitor center.
Beyond the battlefield, the campgrounds themselves become part of the trip. Granite Hill Campground runs adventure golf, fishing ponds, paddleboat and kayak rentals, and hosts the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival in May and August. Gettysburg Campground offers a heated pool, mini golf, and creekside access along Marsh Creek.
For a change of scenery, Michaux State Forest and Appalachian Trail crossings north of Fairfield add hiking, and Caledonia and Pine Grove Furnace State Parks are within a short drive.

The Gettysburg-area private campgrounds run a spring-to-fall season, typically opening in late March or April and closing in late October or November. Winter camping options are very limited, and several parks close entirely once temperatures drop.
Summer is peak season. Anniversary-of-the-battle events in early July drive the biggest demand of the year, and campgrounds fill weeks or months out. Expect hot, humid weather, occasional thunderstorms, and busy battlefield roads. Late spring and early fall are the sweet spot: milder temperatures, thinner crowds, and full campground amenities still running.
Fall foliage in the South Mountain foothills peaks in mid to late October and pairs well with the battlefield's open landscapes. October is also historically the wettest month in the area, so plan for rain gear. By mid-November, pools and many activities close, hookups begin to wind down for the season, and cold nights arrive quickly.

How to book RV sites near Fairfield
All overnight RV camping in the immediate Fairfield and Gettysburg area is at privately owned campgrounds. Gettysburg National Military Park does not offer public RV campsites. The only on-park site is McMillan Woods Youth Campground, which is open mid-April through the end of October and limited to scout troops and youth organizations by reservation, so it is not available to general RV travelers.
Book private parks directly through the campground website or by phone. Granite Hill Campground, Gettysburg Campground, Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA Holiday, Gettysburg Battlefield Resort, and Round Top Campground all take reservations online.
For summer weekends, the July battle anniversary, and the Bluegrass Festival dates at Granite Hill Campground, reserve as early as possible, ideally several months ahead. Big-rig pull-throughs and full-hookup sites go first. Weekday arrivals and shoulder-season dates in April, May, September, and October are easier to secure.
What to expect on the ground
Fairfield-area campgrounds skew toward family resort style rather than wilderness camping. Expect paved or gravel interior roads, tightly spaced sites in the busier parks, and full amenity packages: pools, mini golf, playgrounds, camp stores, laundry, and organized weekend activities. 30 and 50 amp service, water, and sewer are standard at most RV sites, and big-rig pull-throughs are available at Granite Hill Campground and Gettysburg Campground.
Cell service is generally reliable, and Wi-Fi is offered at most parks though speeds vary. Grocery, fuel, and RV supplies are easy to reach in Gettysburg, about ten to fifteen minutes east on Route 116.
Roads into the battlefield are narrow and heavily trafficked in summer. Leave the RV at the campground and use a tow vehicle where possible.

pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight/rv-and-tent-campsites.htmlWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Fairfield, PA?
Late April through October is prime time to rent an RV in Fairfield, with each season offering something different. Spring (April to May) brings dogwood blooms and highs in the 60s to low 70s, perfect for battlefield walks before the school groups arrive. Summer (June to August) sees highs of 82 to 88 degrees and the biggest crowds, peaking around the July 1 to 3 Battle of Gettysburg anniversary. September and October are arguably the sweetest spot, with crisp 60 to 75 degree days, brilliant fall colors across South Mountain, and the Adams County apple harvest in full swing. Winter is quieter but many private campgrounds close mid-November. Local insider tip: time your trip to Biglerville's Apple Harvest Festival the first two weekends of October.
weather.gov/ctp/I have never driven an RV before. Is renting in Fairfield first-timer friendly?
Fairfield is one of the best places in the Mid-Atlantic for a first time renting an RV. The roads around town are open, rural, and low-traffic compared to a big metro, with US Route 15 and Route 30 offering wide lanes and gentle grades. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the water system, propane, slide-outs, leveling, and dump procedures before you drive away. You can also message your host any time during the trip with questions. Approved renters are generally 25 and older. Pro tip: choose a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan rental Fairfield for your first trip, then practice in the campground loop before heading out to the Gettysburg battlefield roads.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue during my Fairfield RV trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing when needed. The Fairfield area has strong cell coverage on major routes (US 15, Route 30, Route 116) and plenty of nearby service options, including Gettysburg Campground's on-site RV service facility just a few miles east of town. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app for quick troubleshooting on quirks specific to their rig. Save the roadside assistance number and your host's contact info in your phone before you leave the driveway and you will be set for a stress-free Fairfield RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my RV rental across state lines from Fairfield, PA?
Yes, interstate travel is encouraged and a Fairfield, PA RV trip practically begs for a multi-state loop. Most RVezy hosts allow travel throughout the continental US, and Fairfield's location on the Pennsylvania-Maryland border makes cross-state adventures easy: Antietam Battlefield (MD) is 30 miles south, Harpers Ferry (WV) is 45 miles southwest, Shenandoah National Park (VA) is about 2.5 hours, and Washington, DC sits 80 miles south. Travel to Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance, so message the host first. Travel to Mexico is not permitted under RVezy's insurance coverage. Popular RV road trip from Fairfield routes include the Civil War Trail loop and Skyline Drive.
nps.gov/anti/index.htmWhat should I budget for fuel on a Fairfield, PA RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost on any Fairfield RV trip, but it's easy to plan for. Travel trailers add roughly 2 to 4 mpg of drag to your tow vehicle, Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A coaches average 6 to 10 mpg. Pennsylvania gas prices tend to run slightly above the national average due to state fuel taxes, so consider filling up just across the Maryland border in Thurmont or Emmitsburg where prices are often 20 to 40 cents per gallon cheaper. For a typical 4-day, 300-mile loop around Gettysburg country in a Class C, budget roughly $120 to $180 in fuel. Pro tip: use GasBuddy to find the best prices along US 15.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Fairfield?
For the best sites, book your Fairfield-area campground as soon as your RV rental is confirmed. Pennsylvania state parks like Caledonia and Pine Grove Furnace open reservations up to 11 months in advance through the official Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system (888-PA-PARKS), and popular weekends sell out months ahead. Private parks like Gettysburg Campground, Granite Hill, and Drummer Boy take reservations year-round and fill fastest for the July 1 to 3 battle anniversary, October weekends during peak foliage, and any Civil War reenactment dates. For a summer or fall weekend, aim for 3 to 6 months out. Last-minute traveler? Midweek stays in May or September almost always have availability.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight/rv-and-tent-campsites.htmlWhat are driving conditions like around Fairfield, PA?
Driving conditions around Fairfield are about as friendly as they come for an RV. The town sits in rolling Adams County farmland with low traffic, and the main routes (US 15, Route 30, Route 116) are wide and well-maintained. Heading west toward Caledonia State Park you'll climb gradually through the South Mountain area, where slower speeds and downshifting on grades are wise in a larger motorhome. The historic streets of downtown Gettysburg can be tight, so use the Gettysburg National Military Park RV and Bus Parking Lot off Baltimore Pike rather than trying to park on Steinwehr Avenue. Winter can bring snow and ice from December through February. Local tip: avoid US 15 northbound on Sunday evenings when DC weekenders head home.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Fairfield, PA?
Campgrounds near Fairfield offer a great mix of amenities, from full-hookup luxury to rustic state-park simplicity. Private parks like Gettysburg Campground, Granite Hill Camping Resort, and Drummer Boy Camping Resort typically offer 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer hookups, free WiFi, pools, laundry, dump stations, and camp stores. Caledonia State Park has modern restrooms with hot showers and an on-site dump station, but most sites are electric-only (no sewer), so plan to dump on your way out. Pine Grove Furnace State Park requires you to arrive with a full fresh-water tank since not every site has water hookups. Pro tip: most Fairfield-area private campgrounds offer propane refills on-site, so you don't have to hunt one down mid-trip.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight/rv-and-tent-campsites/camping-locations-map.htmlWhat's inside a typical Fairfield, PA RV rental?

Air conditioning, furnace heat, and a TV are standard in nearly every Class C motorhome and travel trailer. Many hosts also include generators (great for boondocking on the Appalachian Trail), outdoor speakers, and bike racks. Seatbelt count varies by rig and is listed on every RVezy listing, so confirm seating matches your group size. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count to quickly narrow down family-friendly options.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and options can I get with a Fairfield RV rental?

Common options include linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits with dishes and cookware, bike racks, outdoor grills, generators, camp chairs, fire pits, and even kayaks or e-bikes. Delivery and setup to local campgrounds like Gettysburg Campground or Caledonia State Park is one of the most popular add-ons. Pickup and dropoff are usually scheduled at the host's location, though many will coordinate delivery for a fee. Mileage policies and generator-hour limits are spelled out clearly on the listing page. Pro tip: bundling add-ons often saves money compared to renting gear separately around town.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation.htmlHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure. When you book your RV rental in Fairfield, you will pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host or off-platform. Most hosts require a refundable security deposit, which is separate from your booking payment and is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup, then released after a smooth return. To avoid deposit issues, do a thorough walkthrough at pickup, take timestamped photos of any existing damage, return the RV clean with fuel and propane topped off, and dump the tanks if your host requires it. Pro tip: documenting everything in the RVezy app keeps both you and your host protected.
