Campgrounds and RV parks near Lake Meade, PA

Gettysburg National Military Park is the marquee day trip, roughly 15 to 20 miles southwest, with battlefield auto tours, ranger programs, and a large museum and visitor center. Codorus State Park adds boating and warmwater fishing on the 1,275-acre Lake Marburg, along with picnicking, swimming in the pool, and disc golfing, plus multiple hiking trails. Families traveling with kids often build a day around Gettysburg Farm RV Campground, where children can feed goats, pigs, chickens, horses, and llamas during scheduled times, swim in the pool, and play mini-golf. The surrounding Adams and York County backroads also lead to Hershey, the Utz factory in Hanover, and the Harley-Davidson plant in York for rainy-day options.

The RV season in south-central Pennsylvania runs mostly from mid-April through late October. The Codorus State Park campground is seasonal, opening from the second Friday in April through November 1st, while Gettysburg Farm operates seasonally from mid-April through late October, accommodating RVs up to 35 feet with full hookups. Winter camping is very limited in the area, and many private parks close entirely. Late spring and early summer bring warm days, blooming farmland, and steady rainfall, with May often among the wettest months. Summer is peak season: temperatures climb into the upper 20s Celsius, humidity is high, and weekends around Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day book out well in advance at both state park and Thousand Trails properties. Fall is often the sweet spot. Cooler nights, lower humidity, and foliage across Adams and York counties draw returning campers, and Gettysburg Farm runs a well-known Halloween weekend program in October. Rainfall stays moderate, but the season tapers off quickly once the state park closes on November 1.

Most private campgrounds in the Lake Meade area cater to RVs up to about 35 to 45 feet, with a mix of full hookup, water and electric only, and some tent sites. Gettysburg Farm has around 200 campsites, roughly 60% full hookup (split evenly between 50 amp and 30 amp), with the other 40% along a river as water and electric only, and gravel roads throughout. At Codorus State Park, stay limits allow a maximum of 14 consecutive nights between Memorial Day and Labor Day, with equipment removed for 48 hours before returning. The campground spreads across multiple loops with a mix of shaded and open sites, so review the campground map before booking. Lake Meade itself is private, so plan swimming and boating around the public state parks.
