Campgrounds near Montgomery, Pennsylvania
Montgomery is a small borough in Lycoming County along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, about nine miles south of Williamsport. Riverside Campground sits on the Susquehanna River on the edge of Montgomery Borough, with a short walk into town for shops and supplies. The location puts RV travelers within easy reach of the wider Susquehanna River Valley and the Bald Eagle State Forest ridges to the south.
Options in the immediate area run from full-hookup riverfront sites to family-focused resorts. Riverside Campground is open year-round and offers 135 level sites, with riverfront sites featuring full hookups on 30/50 amp service, and additional sites with full hookups on 30 or 50 amp service. A short drive south along US 15 brings travelers to Williamsport South/Nittany Mountain KOA Holiday near New Columbia, and to Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Milton along Chillisquaque Creek. Steel Steeds Motorcycle Campground and a second Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort round out the nearby cluster.
The area works well for families using Williamsport as a base for the Little League World Series, regional amusement parks, and river paddling on the Susquehanna.
Things to do near Montgomery
The Susquehanna River is the main draw. A Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission ramp sits next to Riverside Campground, and anglers work the banks for smallmouth bass, rock bass, walleye, channel catfish, and occasionally muskellunge. Kayaking and canoeing on the river and its side creeks are common weekend activities.
Families typically build a trip around Williamsport attractions and regional amusement parks. Nearby options include Knoebels Amusement Resort at Elysburg and Clyde Peeling's Reptiland along US 15 at Allenwood, along with farm markets, wineries, and antique centers. The World of Little League Museum in South Williamsport is a short drive north, and the Little League World Series and the Bloomsburg Fair each draw regional crowds in late summer and early fall.
Hiking and waterfall trips extend the itinerary. Ricketts Glen State Park to the east is known for its waterfall trail, while Bald Eagle and Tiadaghton State Forests offer quieter walking and mountain-biking terrain.

Peak camping season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Pool season at the local KOA and other private resorts typically runs Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, and Riverside Campground's swimming pool follows the same schedule. Weekends in July and August fill quickly, especially during the Little League World Series in mid-to-late August, when Williamsport-area campgrounds see a sharp surge in demand.
Shoulder seasons offer easier bookings and cooler nights. Spring can be wet and muddy, with the West Branch of the Susquehanna occasionally running high after snowmelt or heavy rain. Fall brings foliage color through October and cooler overnight temperatures. Jellystone parks and other family resorts in the area typically run themed Halloween weekends with costume contests and trick-or-treat activities through October.
Winter camping is limited. Riverside Campground is among the few nearby properties offering year-round access, with full-service sites available even in the colder months. Most other private resorts and Pennsylvania state park campgrounds in the region close or reduce services after late October.

Everything was perfect! Plenty of room us, two kids (13 & 11) and our dog. The RV had everything we needed and the full-size fridge and pantry were great for extra storage space. Owners were great with excellent communication. Highly recommend!!

How to book
Private campgrounds near Montgomery take reservations directly through their own websites or through platforms such as Campspot and KOA.com. Riverside Campground, Williamsport South/Nittany Mountain KOA Holiday, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Milton all accept online bookings, and family resorts often require deposits and enforce weekend or holiday minimum stays. For the Little League World Series window in mid-to-late August, book several months out.
For Pennsylvania state park and state forest campgrounds in the wider region, use the state's reservation system. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance for most state park and state forest overnight stays, through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations website or by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), Monday through Saturday, 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. A two-night minimum applies to weekend reservations during the summer, with a 14-night stay maximum from Memorial Day to Labor Day and up to 21 consecutive nights the rest of the year.
What to expect
Sites near Montgomery skew toward full-service RV camping. Riverside Campground offers 20, 30, and 50 amp service, free Wi-Fi and cable, a bath house with hot showers, a dump station, a laundromat, and a swimming pool, plus an on-site restaurant and bar. The KOA and Jellystone properties add pools, splashgrounds, jumping pillows, mini golf, and staffed weekend activities aimed at kids.
The river valley is generally flat and easy to navigate, but access roads to some parks are narrow, and GPS routing can misdirect drivers on ridge approaches. Confirm rig-length limits when booking pull-through sites, and check the operator's directions page before arrival.
Cell coverage is reliable in the Montgomery and Williamsport corridor but thins quickly on the surrounding ridges, with many state forest areas having limited or no service. Bring a paper map or downloaded offline maps for state forest side trips.

May and June bring lush green hillsides and daytime highs in the 70s°F (around 21 to 26°C); July and August are the warmest at 80 to 88°F (27 to 31°C) and great for swimming at Little Pine Lake; and late September through mid-October is a local favorite for fall foliage along Route 44 and the Pine Creek Gorge, with crisp 55 to 70°F (13 to 21°C) days. Winters get cold (often in the 20s°F / -6 to -2°C) with snow, so many campgrounds close from November to April, though a handful like Riverside Campground stay open year-round for hardy adventurers.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving it around Montgomery?
You're going to do great, and that's not just a pep talk. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving tips, slide-outs, propane, water systems, and what every switch does, so first time renting an RV in Montgomery feels totally manageable. If you'd rather skip the drive entirely, choose a host who offers delivery and they'll bring the RV right to your campsite. Pro tip: start with a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer if it's your first rodeo.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/SafetyHomePageItems/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if I have a problem with the RV during my trip?

Cell coverage is solid along I-180 and Route 15, so you'll stay connected for most of your route.

visitpa.com/region/pennsylvania-wildsHow much should I budget for fuel on a Montgomery RV trip?
Fuel is easier to budget than you might think. Class C motorhomes in this area average about 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans get 18 to 22 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, typically 10 to 14 MPG. Pennsylvania gas prices generally run a bit above the national average; you'll find competitive fuel at the Sheetz on PA-405 in Montgomery, the Loves Travel Stop in Milton (about 12 miles south on I-180), and the TA Travel Center in Bloomsburg. For a typical 3-night Lycoming County loop covering 250 to 350 miles, budget roughly $90 to $140 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up before heading north into the Pennsylvania Wilds where stations are sparse.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campsite near Montgomery?
Plan ahead and you'll snag the best spots. Pennsylvania state parks (Little Pine, Worlds End, Ricketts Glen, Raymond B. Winter) take reservations up to 11 months in advance through the official PA DCNR reservation system, and prime summer weekends, fall-foliage weekends in October, and holidays book up fast. Private campgrounds like Riverside Campground in Montgomery and Williamsport South / Nittany Mountain KOA typically open bookings 6 to 12 months out. For a regular summer weekday, 2 to 4 weeks ahead is usually fine. Pro tip: if you're locked out of a popular state park, check mid-week dates or look at Little Mexico Campground and Splash Magic RV Resort as flexible alternatives with great amenities.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are local driving conditions like around Montgomery, PA?
Driving an RV around Montgomery is genuinely easy compared to most metro areas. Interstate 180 runs right past town and connects to I-80, both four-lane highways with generous shoulders and gentle grades along the West Branch Susquehanna River. Route 15 (the Montgomery Pike) climbs Bald Eagle Mountain for stunning views from the scenic overlook 1,083 feet up. Watch for two things: deer at dawn and dusk (especially October through December rut), and winter snow from late November into March, which can make mountain routes like Route 87 to Worlds End tricky. Avoid narrow back roads in Loyalsock State Forest with a large rig. Check 511PA.com for live road conditions before you roll out.
511pa.com/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Montgomery?
Local campgrounds make RV life simple. Most full-service parks like Williamsport South / Nittany Mountain KOA, Splash Magic RV Resort, and Riverside Campground offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, dump stations, and potable water fill stations. State park campgrounds at Little Pine, Worlds End, and Ricketts Glen typically have electric hookups plus shared bathhouses, dump stations, and water spigots throughout the loops. If you need to dump or refill between stops, the Flying J in Milton has a public dump station, and most KOAs allow non-guest dumping for a small fee. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot fresh-water hose and both 30-to-50-amp adapters to cover any site you book.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/WhatToDo/Camping/Pages/default.aspxWhat's inside the RVs available in Montgomery, PA?
You'll feel right at home. Class A and larger Class C units usually include a generator for off-grid power, plus a TV and sometimes a backup camera. Campervan rental Montgomery options (Class B) are more compact but still include a bed, mini-kitchen, and often a wet bath. Seatbelts vary by RV; if you're traveling with kids, message the host to confirm belted seats match your group size before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Montgomery,PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons and pickup options are available with a Montgomery RV rental?
You can customize your rental to make life easier. Popular add-ons offered by Montgomery-area hosts include linen and bedding packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits with pots, pans, and dishes ($25 to $50), camp chairs and outdoor rugs, portable grills, bike racks, and generator use for boondocking. Many hosts also offer delivery to local campgrounds like Riverside Campground or Little Pine State Park for a per-mile fee. Standard pickup is typically between 1 PM and 4 PM with a 10 AM to 11 AM drop-off the day your trip ends, and most hosts include a 30 to 60 minute orientation walkthrough. Pro tip: build your add-ons during the booking flow so everything's confirmed in writing before pickup day.
visitpa.com/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit card (never directly to the host), which keeps everything documented and protected. A refundable security deposit is held separately during your trip; the exact amount is shown on the listing before you book, typically ranging from $500 to $1,500 depending on the size and value of the RV. As long as the RV comes back in the same shape it left, with the agreed mileage and generator hours, your deposit is released after the trip ends. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos of the interior, exterior, fuel gauge, and odometer at both pickup and drop-off to keep everything smooth on the family RV trip in Montgomery.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Montgomery, PA for a winter trip?
Yes, winter RV rental in Pennsylvania is possible and surprisingly magical in the Lycoming County hills. Several Montgomery-area hosts list four-season RVs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and propane furnaces so you can camp comfortably even when temperatures dip into the teens°F (around -10°C). Riverside Campground in Montgomery stays open year-round with shore-power hookups, making it a great basecamp for ice fishing on the Susquehanna, snowshoeing at Rider Park, or skiing at Eagle Rock Resort about an hour away. Use the search filters to find a winter-ready rig, ask the host about freeze-prevention tips at walkthrough, and bring extra propane. It's one of the quietest, most beautiful seasons to explore the area.
