How to book a site
State park sites and private campgrounds use different systems, so plan accordingly. At Gifford Pinchot State Park, reservations must be made 3 days ahead of arrival and can be booked up to 11 months in advance through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation portal on ReserveAmerica. Popular summer weekends and holidays fill early, so booking as far ahead as possible is recommended.
Beginning in 2027, the campground at Gifford Pinchot is undergoing a major shower house renovation project. Portions of the campground will be temporarily closed while other areas remain open in phases, and impacted sites are blocked from reservations. Private parks such as Indian Rock Campgrounds, Ben Franklin RV Park, Bainbridge Rock Quarry Campground, and Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday take bookings directly through their own websites or by phone. KOA locations also accept reservations through the KOA app and website.
What to expect on arrival
Expect a mix of rolling farmland, wooded hillsides, and lake shoreline. Sites at Gifford Pinchot have macadam pads and can accommodate virtually any piece of camping equipment from a large motor home to the smallest tent, and many sites have electric hookups. The campground features restroom bathhouses with wash sinks within walking distance, communal water hydrants throughout, and a dump station accessible for an additional fee.
Private parks vary in scale and amenity level. Indian Rock accommodates rigs up to 34 feet and provides immediate access to the historic rail trail, while KOA Holidays typically offer pull-through full-hookup sites, pools, and family programming.
Campers may stay in a state park campground up to 14 consecutive nights from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and up to 21 consecutive nights during the remainder of the season. To help protect forests from invasive insects, campers should not transport firewood over long distances and should use local firewood, burning all of it prior to departure.

cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan realistically and you'll enjoy your North York RV trip a lot more. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A's run 6 to 10 MPG, and campervans (Class B) can hit 15 to 20 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but usually drop your truck's MPG by 30 to 40 percent. Pennsylvania gas prices tend to run slightly above the national average due to state fuel taxes, expect to pay around $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon for regular and $4.00+ for diesel in the York area. For a typical 3-night trip to Gettysburg or Hersheypark (under 150 miles round-trip), budget $60 to $120 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Maryland on cross-border trips, it's noticeably cheaper.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near North York?
For Pennsylvania state parks like Gifford Pinchot and Codorus, book as early as you can, the reservation window opens up to 11 months in advance through the official Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system, and summer weekends plus holiday weeks (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) sell out months ahead. Private campgrounds like Indian Rock and Cedar Lake usually take reservations 3 to 6 months out and have slightly more last-minute availability. For shoulder-season trips in May or late September, you can often grab a midweek site just a week or two ahead. Pro tip: if a state park looks full, check back, cancellations pop up daily and the reservation system shows them in real time.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Reservations/Pages/default.aspxWhat are driving conditions like around North York, PA?
Driving an RV in and around North York is genuinely manageable, especially compared to dense Northeast metros. I-83 runs right through York with wide lanes connecting you north to Harrisburg and south to Baltimore, while US-30 (Lincoln Highway) takes you east-west to Lancaster and Gettysburg with easy RV-friendly grades. Watch for a few low-clearance railroad bridges in older parts of downtown York, stick to I-83, US-30, and PA-74 with your motorhome and you'll be fine. Winter brings occasional snow and ice from December through February, so check PennDOT's 511PA for road conditions. Pro tip: avoid I-83 northbound on Friday afternoons in summer when Harrisburg-area commuters and weekenders create predictable backups.
511pa.com/What amenities do campgrounds near North York typically have?
Most campgrounds near North York are well-equipped for RV camping, expect water, electric (30 or 50 amp), and sewer hookups at private parks like Indian Rock and Cedar Lake Resort. Pennsylvania state parks like Gifford Pinchot and Codorus offer electric hookups at most RV sites plus shared water spigots and centralized dump stations, but not full sewer at every site. Both state parks have hot showers, flush toilets, and potable water fill stations. For dumping between campgrounds, Flinchbaugh's Orchard and several Pilot/Flying J truck stops along I-83 offer public dump stations for a small fee. Pro tip: top off fresh water at the campground before you leave, finding a quick fill-up on the road takes more time than you'd think.

Pickup typically happens at the host's home in or near York, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough covering every system. Each host sets their own mileage policy, with many including 100 to 150 free miles per day and some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage. Generator hours often work the same way. Pro tip: bundle delivery and setup with a linen kit for a true turnkey arrival, you can be relaxing by the campfire within an hour of check-in.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%20York%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure, you pay through RVezy with a credit or debit card at the time of booking, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. Your total includes the nightly rate, taxes, your chosen protection plan, and any add-ons like delivery or generator hours. A refundable security deposit is handled separately from your booking payment and is authorized on your card around the start of your trip, then released after the trip wraps up smoothly. To avoid any deposit hiccups, do a thorough walkaround with your host at pickup, take date-stamped photos, and return the RV with fuel and waste tanks per the host's instructions. Easy, transparent, no surprises.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I park or store an RV overnight in North York, PA?
Yes, with a few smart choices. Overnight RV parking on residential streets in North York borough is not a reliable option, so plan to stay at a real campground or an approved overnight spot. Some Walmart and Cabela's locations in the region allow one-night RV stays with manager approval, but always call the specific store before you arrive. For trip-start or trip-end nights, Indian Rock Campgrounds and Gifford Pinchot State Park are your closest legitimate options near York. If your host is offering delivery, they'll often park the RV at your campsite or driveway directly, which is the easiest setup of all. Pro tip: a 30-second call to confirm overnight parking saves you from a 2 AM knock on the door.
