Campgrounds near Stewartstown, Pennsylvania
Stewartstown sits in southern York County, Pennsylvania, a few miles north of the Mason-Dixon Line and roughly midway between York, PA and Baltimore, MD. The area is rural, with rolling farmland, hardwood forest, and easy access to Interstate 83, which makes it a practical base for RV travelers exploring both south-central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland.
Most campgrounds in the region are privately owned RV parks rather than state or federal facilities. Merry Meadows Recreation Farm, just across the state line in Freeland, Maryland, is the closest full-service option and operates year-round with full hookups and family amenities. Indian Rock Campgrounds and Ben Franklin RV Park serve the York side, while Otter Creek Campground sits along the Susquehanna River. Pequea Creek Campground lies farther east in Lancaster County.
Sites here range from open, big-rig pull-throughs with 50-amp service to shaded wooded spots suited to smaller trailers. Reservations are handled directly through each private park, typically online or by phone.
Things to do near Stewartstown
The Heritage Rail Trail County Park runs from New Freedom through Hanover Junction and into York, offering a paved, mostly flat route for biking and walking that connects to Maryland's Northern Central Railroad Trail. Cyclists can ride uninterrupted from the state line all the way to Cockeysville, Maryland.
The Susquehanna River corridor east of town includes Otter Creek Campground, Lake Redman, Lake Williams, and William H. Kain County Park, all with fishing, kayaking, and hiking. Gifford Pinchot State Park, about 45 minutes north, has swimming and boating on Pinchot Lake.
Day trips include historic downtown York, the Mason-Dixon Wine Trail, Codorus State Park, and Gettysburg National Military Park, all within roughly an hour's drive.

Peak RV season in southern York County runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with July and August the busiest weeks. Private parks in the area fill quickly for holiday weekends, so booking six to eight weeks ahead is advisable for Fourth of July and Labor Day. Summer brings warm, humid weather and afternoon thunderstorms typical of the mid-Atlantic.
Spring and fall are quieter and often the most comfortable for RV travel. April through early June offers mild days, blooming dogwoods, and lower site demand. September and October bring hardwood color across the ridges, cooler nights, and popular fall-themed weekends at family campgrounds like Merry Meadows Recreation Farm.
Winter is the off-season. Some private parks remain open with limited services for self-contained rigs, while others close from late fall until spring. Water hookups may be shut off during freezing periods. Confirm operating dates directly with each campground before booking a cold-weather trip.

How to book campgrounds near Stewartstown
Most campgrounds in this area are privately owned and take reservations directly through their own websites or booking platforms such as Campspot. Merry Meadows Recreation Farm, Indian Rock Campgrounds, Otter Creek Campground, Ben Franklin RV Park, and Pequea Creek Campground all handle bookings independently rather than through a central agency system.
Pennsylvania State Parks, including nearby Gifford Pinchot and Codorus, use the state's online reservation system and open bookings up to eleven months in advance at noon Eastern time. Maryland State Parks operate a separate system for sites just across the border.
For summer weekends, reserve as early as possible. Weeknight stays are usually easier to secure on shorter notice. Check length, hookup, and slide-out limits before booking, since some rural sites cannot accommodate longer motorhomes or fifth wheels.
What to expect on the ground
Expect a mix of rural roads, small-town main streets, and quick highway access via I-83 and US-30. Grocery stores, propane, and RV supplies are readily available in Shrewsbury, Red Lion, and York. Cell coverage is generally strong along the corridors and can be spotty in wooded valleys.
Private parks in the area tend to lean family-oriented, with pools, playgrounds, and organized weekend activities during the warm season. Sites vary from tight, back-in wooded spots to open pull-throughs; call ahead if traveling in a big rig.
Biting insects are common in summer near creeks and wooded areas, and ticks are present spring through fall. Bring repellent and check for ticks after hikes on rail trails or in state parks.

visitpa.com/things-to-do/outdoors/campingWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Stewartstown, PA?
Good news, a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Pennsylvania, no special endorsement or commercial driver's license required for any RV you'll find on RVezy. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and ID verification happens through the platform during checkout. Visiting from outside the United States? Bring your home country license along with an International Driving Permit (usually under $20 from your local auto club) and you're set. Most first-time renters in York County are surprised how quick the booking process is, you can often be approved and confirmed within hours.

The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level (not the host) during checkout. If you get a flat on Interstate 83 heading toward Baltimore or need help at a campsite near Gifford Pinchot State Park, one call to RVezy roadside assistance dispatches help. It is not traditional auto insurance, it is built specifically for peer-to-peer RV rentals so you can focus on the trip.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat is the cancellation policy if my Stewartstown RV trip plans change?
Booking an RV rental in Stewartstown, PA is low-risk because RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy, with a short grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. The exact refund depends on how far in advance you cancel, and host cancellations result in a full refund or rebooking credit for the guest. Because the policy is standardized, terms stay consistent across every booking. Pro tip: book early to secure the best rigs for Gettysburg or York Fair weekends, knowing the grace period has your back if plans shift.

Pro tip: book a travel trailer or smaller Class C (24 to 28 feet) for your first trip, they handle like a large truck and fit easily at Codorus State Park sites.

Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because protection coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: Stewartstown's location near Interstate 83 makes a Baltimore-to-Philadelphia city sampler trip easy.

To avoid deposit issues, do a thorough walkthrough with the host at pickup, take date-stamped photos of any existing scratches or interior wear, follow the dumping and refueling instructions, and return the rig on time. Pro tip: keep your gas receipts from a station near Stewartstown or Shrewsbury, it documents you returned the RV fueled per the agreement.
