Trevorton sits in Zerbe Township, Northumberland County, at the junction of Pennsylvania Routes 225 and 890 in the ridge-and-valley region of central Pennsylvania. RV travelers use the town as a quiet base for the Susquehanna River corridor and the Knoebels amusement complex about 15 miles north near Elysburg.
Most campgrounds in the area are privately owned, family-oriented parks clustered along the Susquehanna and its tributaries. Splash Magic RV Resort and Fantasy Island Campground sit near Sunbury and Northumberland on the river, while Knoebels Resort and Campground is attached to the amusement park itself. J and D Campgrounds is northeast in Catawissa, and Penn Avon Campground is west along Penn's Creek near Selinsgrove.
The region is easily reached by US-11 and US-15 along the river, with I-80 crossing to the north and I-81 to the east. Most parks cater to families with pools, playgrounds, and full-hookup sites suitable for larger rigs.
Things to do near Trevorton
The signature draw is Knoebels, a large free-admission amusement park with more than 100 rides and attractions, including the Phoenix wooden coaster and the 900,000-gallon Crystal Pool fed by mountain stream water. Three Ponds Golf Course sits adjacent to the resort, with a discount card available to on-property campers.
The Susquehanna River offers boating, fishing, and paddling. Fantasy Island Campground sits on Packer Island between Sunbury and Northumberland, where the North and West branches of the Susquehanna meet and form Lake Augusta when the inflatable Adam T. Bower Memorial Dam is raised each summer. Shikellamy State Park provides river overlooks and hiking, and Penn's Creek, near Penn Avon Campground, is a well-known trout fishery.

Central Pennsylvania has a distinct four-season climate. Summers are warm, humid, and thunderstorm-prone; winters are cold and snowy; and precipitation is spread fairly evenly through the year. Peak RV season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when family parks book heaviest and Knoebels operates full daily hours.
Most private campgrounds in the area open in spring and close by mid-fall. Fantasy Island Campground opens April 15 and closes October 15, with all sites offering water, electric, and sewer hookups and cable plus WiFi. Penn Avon offers camping April through October at full hook-up sites with WiFi, and keeps monthly rentals available in the off-season. Knoebels campground follows the amusement park calendar, roughly late April through October.
Spring brings higher river flows and mud on unpaved sites, while fall delivers cooler nights, foliage, and lighter crowds after Labor Day. Winter travel is limited by snow, cold, and closed park amenities, though a few sites operate year round for long-term stays.

Sandy went above and beyond. Leading up to the rental dates she was in communication, making sure we were on the same page. I opted for delivery rather than pickup, and she made sure the rv was delivered early so we could fully enjoy the rental dates. We had a normal issue w the AC (the unit froze) but she was very communicative and helpful until the problem was solved (she suggested to turn it to fan in case the unit was frozen, and it quickly thawed). Always very sweet and courteous, always responsive. My four year old son loved the trailer, was very upset to understand that we had to give it back 😂. Thanks, Sandy!

Sandy went out of her way to make sure my family was well accommodated during our use of her camper!

How to book campgrounds near Trevorton
Private campgrounds handle their own reservations directly by phone, on their websites, or through platforms like RoverPass and Hipcamp. Knoebels Resort and Campground is the toughest ticket in the area: both of its campgrounds book up months in advance, and summer weekends and Hallo-Fun dates are the first to sell out. Holiday weekends fill first at every family park in the region.
Expect deposits, minimum-stay rules on holidays, and cancellation windows. Fantasy Island enforces a 2-night minimum on weekends and a 3-night minimum on July 4th, Memorial Day, and Labor Day weekends, and requires 20 days notice for a deposit refund. For Pennsylvania state parks in the area, such as Shikellamy and Milton, reservations are handled through the state system up to 11 months in advance, released at noon Eastern time.
What to expect at area campgrounds
Most parks near Trevorton are full-service family campgrounds with pools, playgrounds, and a mix of transient and seasonal sites. Fantasy Island Campground has about 100 full hook-up sites with concrete patios, 30 or 50 amp service, cable, and free WiFi, on Packer Island in the Susquehanna. Splash Magic RV Resort runs full-hookup sites with both 30 and 50 amp service in pull-through and back-in layouts. J and D Campgrounds offers full hookups including 50 amp electric, water, sewer, and cable TV, with pull-through and tent sites suitable for larger rigs.
Knoebels is the outlier for hookups: sites include electric only, with fill stations at the entrance but no water or sewer at the site. Big-rig travelers should confirm site length in advance. Fantasy Island lists a maximum RV length near 55 feet, and tight interior roads make careful maneuvering essential.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Trevorton, PA?
An RV rental in Trevorton, PA is one of the more affordable ways to vacation in central Pennsylvania, with daily rates typically ranging from about $95 for a compact campervan to $250 for a fully-loaded Class A motorhome. Travel trailers, which a host can deliver and set up for you, often fall in the $100 to $175 per night range. To find a cheap RV rental in Trevorton, look at midweek dates in May or late September when rates dip 15-25% below peak summer pricing. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Trevorton,PennsylvaniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Trevorton, PA?
Good news: your regular Class C driver's license is all you need to rent and drive nearly every RV listed in Trevorton. Pennsylvania only requires a non-commercial Class A or B license for RVs with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and the vast majority of motorhomes and travel trailers on RVezy fall well under that limit. To rent, you'll need to be 25 or older with a valid driver's license, which you'll verify quickly through the RVezy platform during booking. Visiting from another country? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP). That's it. You're ready to explore the Susquehanna River Valley with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental in Trevorton protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Trevorton booked through RVezy comes with a built-in protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover most damages to the vehicle during your trip, and you can choose the level of coverage that fits your comfort zone during checkout. Hosts don't pick your coverage level, you do. Pro tip: if you're a first-time renter heading to Knoebels or Ricketts Glen, upgrading to a higher protection tier costs a few extra dollars a night and removes almost every worry.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Trevorton RV rental?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book, so you can lock in your dates without second-guessing. After that, refund amounts depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. Pennsylvania weather can shift quickly in spring and late fall, so this flexibility matters. You'll see the exact policy details and a clear refund breakdown on your reservation page before payment. If RVezy customer support is ever needed, the team is reachable before, during, and after every trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Trevorton RV trip?
Absolutely, finding a pet-friendly RV rental in Trevorton is easy. Just filter for Pet-Friendly on RVezy and you'll see dozens of motorhomes and travel trailers where dogs (and often cats) are welcome. Pennsylvania state parks like Worlds End and Ricketts Glen allow leashed pets at designated pet-friendly campsites, and Knoebels Amusement Resort's campground welcomes leashed pets in outdoor areas too. Trevorton itself sits at the edge of the Weiser State Forest, which offers miles of dog-friendly hiking trails right out the door. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your pet's size and breed, and ask about any extra cleaning fee so there are no surprises at drop-off.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight/rv-and-tent-campsites.htmlCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Trevorton?
Yes, RV delivery in Trevorton is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if you're a first-time renter. Many local hosts will deliver a travel trailer or fifth wheel directly to Knoebels Campground in Elysburg (about 20 minutes away), nearby private campgrounds, or even to a private driveway, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. You skip the stress of towing through Pennsylvania's winding back roads and arrive to a fully set-up camper. Filter by Delivery to see hosts who offer it. Delivery fees are typically based on round-trip mileage from the host's location, so closer pickups mean a lower price.

Each host sets their own mileage policy, so check the listing carefully. If you want a road-trip-heavy itinerary, filter for an RV rental with unlimited mileage on RVezy. Pro tip: average road-trip days of 150-200 miles keep fuel costs reasonable and leave plenty of time for swimming holes and covered bridges.
penndot.pa.gov/Pages/default.aspxWhere should I stay with my RV near Trevorton?
Some of the best campgrounds near Trevorton are within a 30-minute drive, making it easy to plan your first night. Knoebels Campground in Elysburg (about 10 miles away) has hundreds of wooded sites with hookups, free shuttles to America's largest free-admission amusement park, and a dump station. Lake Glory Campground (also part of Knoebels) sits on a quiet lake nearby. Shikellamy State Park, about 25 minutes west, offers riverfront views along the Susquehanna. For something rural, family-run campgrounds along the river in Port Trevorton offer big-rig-friendly sites. Pro tip: book Knoebels well in advance for summer weekends, as popular dates fill up months ahead.
knoebels.com/campgroundWhen is the best time of year for RV camping in Trevorton?
Late May through mid-October is prime RV camping season in Trevorton, with warm summer highs in the low 80s F and crisp, colorful autumns. July is the warmest month (average highs near 84 F) and the busiest, especially around Knoebels. The real local secret? Late September through mid-October, when the Appalachian hardwoods turn orange and red, daytime temps sit in the comfortable 60s F, and campgrounds quiet down. Spring (April to early May) is great for waterfall chasing at Ricketts Glen. If you want to extend the season, many RVs on RVezy have heated tanks and furnaces, so a chilly November weekend by the Susquehanna is completely doable.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay around Trevorton?
You'll do great, especially in this part of Pennsylvania. First time renting an RV? Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering everything from the propane and water systems to leveling, hookups, and emergency basics. The roads around Trevorton are forgiving for new RVers: Route 225 and Route 61 are well-maintained and far less stressful than highway driving in big cities. Stick to daytime driving on your first day, take the curves on Route 487 toward Elysburg slowly, and use GPS in RV mode to avoid low rural bridges. Pro tip: if you're nervous, book delivery and skip driving entirely. The host brings the RV to you.
penndot.pa.gov/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if I break down on my Trevorton RV trip?
You're never alone on the road. Every booking on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 125, a dead battery at a Susquehanna County campground, or a tow needed near the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area is just a phone call away. The dispatcher coordinates the service so you don't have to scramble. Your host is also typically reachable by message for quick troubleshooting questions (like how to reset the inverter). Pro tip: snap photos of your tire pressure, tank levels, and key panels at pickup. If something feels off later, you'll have an easy reference and faster help.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trip routes from Trevorton?
An RV road trip from Trevorton can take you in nearly any direction and still feel like an adventure. Popular routes include heading north along Route 147 toward Ricketts Glen State Park (about 60 miles, 22 waterfalls in one loop), east to Jim Thorpe and the Lehigh Gorge (around 90 miles of scenic mountain riding), or south through Lancaster County's Amish farm roads (about 75 miles to Strasburg). For something longer, head west on I-80 to the Pennsylvania Wilds and the PA Grand Canyon (about 130 miles). Pro tip: leave on a Thursday morning to beat Friday Knoebels traffic.
visitpa.com/What should I budget for fuel on a Trevorton RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest expense after the rental itself, but it's manageable in this region. Most Class C motorhomes get 8-12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans often hit 16-20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Pennsylvania gas prices in 2025-2026 generally run $3.30 to $3.90 per gallon, with Sheetz and Rutter's stations along Route 61 typically a few cents cheaper than highway exits. For a 300-mile loop from Trevorton to Ricketts Glen, Hershey, and back in a Class C, budget about $100-$130 for fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Shamokin or Sunbury before heading into more rural areas where stations are spaced further apart.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Trevorton?
For peak summer weekends (June through August), book Knoebels Campground, Shikellamy State Park, and other popular spots near Trevorton 3 to 6 months in advance. Pennsylvania State Parks campsites are reserved through the official DCNR reservation system online or by phone, and they open up to 11 months ahead. Knoebels uses its own reservation system directly through their website, with returning campers often locking in dates the year prior. Shoulder season (May, September, October) is much more forgiving (often a 2-4 week lead time works fine). Pro tip: midweek availability stays surprisingly open even in July, so a Tuesday-to-Thursday Knoebels stay is a hidden gem for families.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What's it like driving an RV around Trevorton?
Driving conditions around Trevorton are RV-friendly once you know the lay of the land. The area sits in the rolling foothills of the Appalachians, so expect gentle grades and a few twisty sections (Route 487 north to Elysburg and Route 125 west both have curves best taken slowly). Stick to Route 61, Route 147, and I-80 for the smoothest big-rig travel. Watch for narrow rural bridges and posted weight limits in coal-country towns like Shamokin and Mount Carmel. Winter brings snow and ice from December through March, so plan accordingly. Pro tip: PennDOT's 511PA app gives real-time road conditions and is a must-have on your phone before any motorhome rental in Pennsylvania trip.

Campgrounds near Trevorton are well-equipped for a comfortable RV camping Trevorton experience. Most Pennsylvania state parks (Shikellamy, Worlds End, Ricketts Glen) offer electric hookups, potable water spigots, clean bathhouses, and dump stations, though full sewer hookups vary by site. Private parks like Knoebels Campground typically add WiFi, camp stores, laundry, and playgrounds. Free dump stations and water fills are easy to find at most campground offices. Pro tip: download the Sani-Dumps or Campendium app before your trip to map dump stations along your route.

Most motorhome rentals in Trevorton come with sleeping for 4-8 people (queen beds, bunks, or convertible dinettes), a working kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a private bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control (furnace and A/C), and seatbelted seating for safe travel. Many also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and built-in generator for off-grid power. Travel trailers offer the same essentials minus the cab. Each listing shows exact specs (sleeps count, length, slide-outs) so you can match your group. Pro tip: if you're heading to a no-hookup spot like a remote Weiser State Forest pull-off, filter for RVs with a generator and solar.

Hosts in the Trevorton area offer plenty of helpful extras to customize your trip. Popular add-ons include portable generators, bike racks, kayak holders for Susquehanna River paddling, camp chair and table bundles, firewood, propane refills, and full kitchen kits. Pickup and drop-off are usually at the host's home base, with delivery often available for an extra fee based on round-trip distance. Each host sets their own mileage policy, and unlimited-mileage options exist if you filter for them. Pro tip: ask the host about a Knoebels add-on like a portable fire pit (some include them free) for those covered-bridge campfire evenings.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Trevorton,PennsylvaniaHow do payments and the security deposit work for a Trevorton RV rental?
Booking is straightforward and secure. Payment for your RV rental in Trevorton, PA is handled directly through the RVezy platform with a credit card. You'll see the full rental price, taxes, protection plan, and any add-ons clearly itemized before you confirm. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and released after a successful return. To avoid deductions, return the RV on time, with the fuel tank topped off, the holding tanks empty (most hosts include free dumping or a service add-on), and the inside as clean as you got it. Pro tip: take a quick walk-around video at both pickup and drop-off for your own records.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle cold weather on a Trevorton RV trip?
Cold-weather RV camping near Trevorton is completely doable with the right rig. Winter temperatures often dip into the teens F from December through February, with notable snowfall, so look for RV rentals with heated holding tanks, a propane furnace, and a winter-rated insulation package. Many hosts list four-season or winter-ready rentals on RVezy. Shore power at campgrounds keeps electric heaters running without draining batteries. Pro tip: late October brings a spectacular last call of autumn foliage with smaller crowds, and Knoebels hosts a holiday light show in late November and December. Bring extra propane and an electric space heater for a cozy Susquehanna Valley winter campfire weekend.
