Camping near Troy, Pennsylvania
Troy sits in Bradford County in Pennsylvania's Northern Tier, part of the Endless Mountains region along US Route 6. Midway between Troy and Towanda, the 1,302-acre Mount Pisgah State Park lies at the base of Mt. Pisgah, elevation 2,260 feet, only two miles north of US 6, the major route through the northern tier. The rolling farmland, creeks, and state forest land make the area a practical base for RV travelers heading into the PA Wilds or the Finger Lakes.
Campgrounds within a reasonable drive of Troy range from small family-run parks to full-amenity resorts. Falling Waters Campground home of Buttermilk Falls offers 64 campsites with electric, water, and sewer hook-ups, cabin rentals, an on-site dump station, and walking trails leading to Buttermilk Falls. Tanglewood Camping, Gardner Hill Campground, North - Newtown Battlefield State Park across the New York line, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: PA Wilds near Mansfield round out the nearby options.
Expect a rural setting with limited cell service in places, quiet nights, and easy access to state parks, game lands, and the PA Grand Canyon to the west.
Things to do around Troy
A dam on Mill Creek forms Stephen Foster Lake at Mount Pisgah State Park, and the 75-acre lake provides fishing, boating, and skating. The park has hiking trails, a seasonal swimming pool, and picnic areas, and it borders State Game Land 289 for hiking and wildlife watching.
Waterfall walks are a highlight of the area. Scenic walking trails at Falling Waters lead to Buttermilk Falls, and the campground sits a short drive from State Game Lands, World's End State Park, and the Sullivan County Fairgrounds. To the west, the PA Grand Canyon (Pine Creek Gorge) offers overlooks, biking on the Pine Creek Rail Trail, and dark skies for stargazing.
Families with kids gravitate toward the pools, playgrounds, and character events at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: PA Wilds.

How to book near Troy
Reservation systems differ by campground type. Pennsylvania state park sites, including Mount Pisgah, use the state's ReserveAmerica portal. Reservations must be made 3 days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance. New York state parks, including North - Newtown Battlefield State Park, use a separate ReserveAmerica system with a 9-month booking window, and same-day campsite reservations are typically permitted.

Minimum-stay rules commonly apply on summer weekends and holiday weekends. Read cancellation windows carefully before locking in dates.
What to expect near Troy
Sites in this region are a mix of wooded back-ins and pull-throughs. Larger rigs are generally accommodated at the private parks, but call ahead to confirm site length and levelness. Falling Waters advertises 30 and 50 amp full-hookup sites with big-rig-friendly pull-throughs, and other private parks in the area offer a mix of hookup levels. Cell coverage varies by carrier and can be weak in the hollows and on ridgetops.
Expect black bears, deer, and ticks. Store food properly and check for ticks after hikes, and heed posted tick signage on trails.
Amenities at family resorts include pools, playgrounds, and organized activities. State park sites are more rustic and typically include a fire ring, picnic table, and access to shower buildings and a dump station.

visitpa.com/explore/regions/upstate-pa/troy/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Troy, PA?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Troy, PA. Pennsylvania does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for the motorhomes and trailers listed on RVezy, even for larger Class A rigs. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the booking flow so there's no paperwork to mail or notarize. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country's license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most first-time renters in Troy are surprised by how quickly the approval process moves.
dmv.pa.gov/Driver-Services/Driver-Licensing/Pages/default.aspxIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included in Troy, PA?
Yes, every RV rental in Troy, PA booked through RVezy includes a protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you pull away. You choose your protection level at checkout (hosts do not set this), and coverage helps with most physical damage during your trip. Roadside assistance handles flat tires, lockouts, jump-starts, and towing, which is reassuring when winding along Route 6 or heading up to Mount Pisgah State Park. Review the protection tiers on RVezy before you confirm, so you know exactly what is included for your Troy RV trip.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat if I need to cancel my Troy, PA RV booking?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy applies a clear, standard cancellation policy to every reservation, including a money-back grace period right after you book. The refund amount depends on how far in advance you cancel, and host cancellations result in a full refund or travel credit for the guest. Hosts do not set their own cancellation terms, so you get the same fair process whether you are renting a campervan in Troy for a weekend or a Class A for a longer Endless Mountains tour. If plans shift, message your host first since many will gladly adjust dates instead of canceling.

Pro tip: bring a long lead and a tick check routine since this is deep woods country, and confirm any pet fee with your host before booking.

pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/mount-pisgah-state-park.htmlWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Troy, PA?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping Troy PA, with peak magic happening in late September and early October when the Endless Mountains explode into red, orange, and gold. Summer highs sit comfortably in the 75 to 82 F range with cool nights perfect for campfires, while spring brings the famous Endless Mountains Maple Festival in late April, complete with all-day pancake breakfasts. Winters here are snowy and cold (often dipping into the teens or lower), so most campgrounds close from late October through April. Insider tip: book a foliage weekend at Mount Pisgah by mid-July if you want a site.
weather.gov/bgm/I've never driven an RV before. Is this a good area to start?
Troy is honestly one of the better places in Pennsylvania for first time renting an RV. Traffic is light, parking is plentiful, and Route 6 and Route 14 are wide, well-maintained two-lane roads with gentle grades, so you won't be white-knuckling mountain switchbacks on day one. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving the rig, dumping tanks, hooking up at a campground, and operating the awning and slide-outs. You can also message your host with questions anytime during the trip. Pro tip: pick up early in the day so you have daylight for your first drive to camp.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my Troy, PA trip?
Help is just a phone call away. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. If something more serious happens while you are parked at Hills Creek State Park or driving Route 6 toward Wellsboro, you have three lifelines: the roadside assistance hotline, your host (who knows the rig inside and out), and RVezy support. Cell coverage in rural Bradford County can be spotty around Tioga State Forest, so screenshot your booking details and roadside contact number before heading into the woods. Most issues are resolved the same day.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Troy, PA rental RV across state lines or into Canada?
Crossing into New York is straightforward and popular, since the state line is just 25 miles north of Troy and puts you within reach of the Finger Lakes, Watkins Glen, and the Catskills. Most RVezy hosts also welcome longer interstate road trips throughout the lower 48. Cross-border travel into Canada depends on the host and protection plan, so message before booking if you are planning a trip to Niagara Falls, Ontario or beyond. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because protection coverage does not extend south of the border.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Troy, PA RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable in your RV trip budget, but Troy keeps things manageable. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a little higher than the national average, and most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG) while travel trailers drop your tow vehicle to roughly 10 to 14 MPG. A typical 4-day loop from Troy to Pine Creek Gorge and back (around 250 miles) usually costs $90 to $140 in fuel. Pro tip: fuel up in Towanda or Mansfield rather than smaller villages, where prices tend to be 10 to 20 cents higher per gallon, and use GasBuddy along Route 6.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Troy?
For peak summer weekends and fall foliage (late September through mid-October), book Mount Pisgah State Park and other Pennsylvania State Parks campgrounds the day reservations open, which is 11 months ahead through the DCNR reservation system. Private campgrounds like Pioneer Campground or Sunny Rest typically have more last-minute availability and accept reservations 3 to 6 months out. Midweek dates are much easier to snag, even in summer. Pro tip: if your top pick is full, set a cancellation alert on the Pennsylvania state park reservation site since spots open up regularly within two weeks of arrival.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/state-parks/camping.htmlWhat are driving conditions like around Troy, PA?
Driving conditions around Troy are RV-friendly most of the year. The main routes (US 6, PA 14, and PA 414) are paved two-lane highways with moderate grades and light traffic compared to the Philadelphia or Pittsburgh areas. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk in fall, occasional steep descents into river valleys near Towanda, and winter snow from December through March that can quickly affect back roads. Stick to numbered routes for the smoothest ride in your motorhome rental, and avoid narrow township roads. Pro tip: download offline maps because cell service drops out in Tioga State Forest.

Campgrounds near Troy range from rustic state-forest sites to full-hookup private parks, so there's something for every comfort level. Mount Pisgah State Park offers 30-amp electric sites, potable water spigots, flush toilets, hot showers, and a sanitary dump station near the entrance. Hills Creek State Park has similar amenities plus a swimming beach. Private parks like Pioneer Campground typically offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer at the site) plus laundry and Wi-Fi. For dumping and fresh water mid-trip, most Pennsylvania state parks let day-users use their dump stations for a small fee. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the Tioga or Bradford County state parks since fill stations are rare on Route 6.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/state-parks/camping.htmlWhat is actually inside an RV rental from Troy, PA?

Mileage policies vary, with some offering unlimited miles and others including a set number of free miles per night. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Troy%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow do payments and the security deposit work for a Troy, PA RV rental?
Payment is handled securely through the RVezy platform: you pay your trip total at booking with a credit or debit card, and the host receives funds after your trip starts. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment (amount varies by RV) and released after your trip assuming no damage. To avoid any deposit hassles, take dated photos and video of the RV inside and out at both pickup and drop-off, follow the host's tank-dumping and cleaning instructions, and refuel to the level shown at pickup. Pro tip: confirm the host's preferred dump station near Troy before heading back so you are not scrambling on return day.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Troy, PA during winter?
Yes, winter RV rental in Troy, PA is possible and can be a serious adventure if you're up for snowy hikes, ice fishing on Stephen Foster Lake, or a cozy basecamp for deer season in November and December. Look for listings labeled as four-season or with heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, and reliable propane furnaces, since Troy winter lows regularly dip into the teens and single digits. Most state park campgrounds close from late October to mid-April, but several private parks and many private properties stay open year-round with electric hookups. Pro tip: ask the host about shore-power requirements, heat-tape on hoses, and snow tires before you book a cold-weather trip.
