Campgrounds near Tyler Run, Pennsylvania
Tyler Run sits in southern York County, Pennsylvania, minutes from the city of York and within a short drive of the Susquehanna River, Lancaster County, and the Gettysburg area. The location works well as an RV base for exploring south-central Pennsylvania, with Interstates 83 and 76 putting Harrisburg, Hershey, and the Mason-Dixon border within an easy day trip.
Camping options range from small independent parks to a large state-run campground. Indian Rock Campgrounds sits adjacent to the York Heritage Rail Trail, giving quick access to biking and the historic sites of York. Ben Franklin RV Park and Bainbridge Rock Quarry Campground offer additional private-park options in the broader York and lower Susquehanna area.
For larger rigs and full hookups, Gifford Pinchot State Park is a 2,338-acre full-service park in northern York County along PA 177 between Rossville and Lewisberry, with the 340-acre Pinchot Lake as the main draw. Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday sits north across the Susquehanna and is a common pick for families visiting Hersheypark.
Things to do near Tyler Run
The York Heritage Rail Trail runs directly through the area and connects to a longer network reaching the Maryland state line, making it a straightforward pick for cycling, walking, and stroller-friendly outings. York itself offers historic landmarks such as the Gates House and the Plow Tavern, with Gettysburg and Lancaster within easy reach.
Water recreation is centered on Pinchot Lake at Gifford Pinchot State Park. The lake supports boating, fishing, and swimming during the warm season, and the park has designated swim beaches and boat launches. Hiking trails and picnic areas round out the day-use options.
For rainy-day plans, Hersheypark, the Amish farmlands of Lancaster County, and Gettysburg National Military Park are all within roughly an hour's drive.

The Tyler Run area follows a humid continental pattern with four distinct seasons. York sees a strong seasonal temperature contrast: summers are warm, winters are cold, and precipitation is spread relatively evenly through the year, with winter the driest stretch.
Camping season for the largest nearby state park runs spring through mid-fall. The campground at Gifford Pinchot State Park operates from mid-April through late October. Indian Rock Campgrounds publishes an April 1 to November 30 window on several booking platforms, while a few private parks in the region stay open year-round for self-contained rigs. Confirm dates directly with the operator before booking.
Summer weekends and holiday periods draw the heaviest demand, and lakeside sites at Gifford Pinchot fill quickly. Fall brings cooler nights, thinner crowds, and foliage color across the ridge country. Late spring is a good compromise for mild weather and greater site availability.

How to book campgrounds near Tyler Run
State park sites are handled through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. At Gifford Pinchot, reservations must be made at least 3 days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance, with the daily release at noon Eastern Time. Popular lakeside and full-hookup sites are typically the first to disappear for summer weekends, so booking near the 11-month window is advised.
Private campgrounds around York and Elizabethtown take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For KOA Holiday properties, the KOA website and app handle booking, loyalty rewards, and site selection.
Before booking, confirm rig length, hookup type, and pet policies. Indian Rock Campgrounds specializes in sites for smaller RV units, with a maximum length around 34 to 35 feet.
What to expect on arrival
Sites in this part of Pennsylvania range from paved pull-throughs at private parks to macadam pads at the state park. At Gifford Pinchot, all sites have macadam pads that can accommodate everything from large motorhomes to small tents, many sites have electric hookups with 20, 30, or 50 amp service, and 22 sites offer full water, sewer, and electric connections. A sanitary dump station and modern bathhouses serve the campground.
Expect wooded, rolling terrain with mature hardwoods, moderate shade, and biting insects near creeks and marsh edges in summer. Cell coverage is generally solid across the York corridor and softer inside state-park loops.
Parking at Gifford Pinchot is restricted to designated areas, with one vehicle per campsite. Stays are capped at 14 consecutive nights from Memorial Day to Labor Day and 21 consecutive nights the rest of the season.

Tyler Run is a four-season destination, and late April through mid-October is the sweet spot. Spring (April-May) brings 55 F to 72 F days and blooming dogwoods around the Susquehanna. Summer (June-August) runs warm and humid with highs of 84 F to 88 F, ideal for lake camping at Codorus State Park. Fall (September-October) is a local favorite, crisp 60 F to 75 F days, fewer crowds, and brilliant foliage along the Mason-Dixon Trail. Winter dips to 25 F to 40 F with occasional snow, but RV camping near Tyler Run is still possible at year-round parks if you book a rig with a heated underbelly. weather.gov/ctp/I've never rented an RV before, what should I expect?
You're going to love how easy this is. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, water, slide-outs, generator, holding tanks, and how to hook up at a campground. Most orientations run 30 to 45 minutes and you can text the host anytime during your trip with questions. For your first time renting an RV in Tyler Run, consider a Class C motorhome (drives like a big van) or a delivered travel trailer so you skip towing entirely. Stick to Interstate 83 and Route 30 for your first drive, both are flat and RV-friendly. The hardest part is honestly just picking which campground.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat if I have a breakdown or issue during my Tyler Run RV trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the RVezy renter protection plan, so a flat tire on I-83 or a propane issue at Codorus State Park is a single phone call away from being solved. Help can be dispatched anywhere in Pennsylvania, including more rural stretches around the Susquehanna River and the Pigeon Hills. You're perfectly positioned to cross into Maryland (about 15 miles south), West Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York with no restrictions on most rentals. Popular cross-state routes include Shenandoah's Skyline Drive in Virginia and the Finger Lakes in New York. Canada trips may be allowed depending on the host and the protection coverage, just message the host through the listing before booking and confirm border documentation. Budgeting is straightforward. Class C motorhomes around Tyler Run average 8 to 10 miles per gallon (mpg), Class A rigs come in at 6 to 8 mpg, and campervans hit a friendly 14 to 18 mpg. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but expect 10 to 14 mpg combined. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a bit higher than the national average due to state fuel taxes, so fueling up across the Maryland border in Shrewsbury or White Hall (15 minutes south) can save a few dollars per tank. For a typical 300-mile weekend RV road trip from Tyler Run to Lancaster and back, plan on $90 to $130 in fuel for a Class C.

Earlier is better, but you've got options. Private parks like Indian Rock Campground and Gettysburg Campground usually have more flexibility, 30 to 60 days out is often fine outside July 4th weekend. For festival-heavy weekends (Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire in August-October, Gettysburg reenactments in early July), book three to six months ahead. Pro tip: midweek nights at Codorus often have openings even in peak summer, perfect for a Tuesday-to-Thursday lake escape.

Route 30 east-west is another easy corridor toward Lancaster and Gettysburg. Watch for narrower secondary roads in Amish Country (Route 372 toward Lancaster) and a few low-clearance covered bridges in southern York County, most rentals clear them but always check your RV's height, typically 10 to 12 feet. Winter brings occasional snow and freezing rain from December through February, so check PennDOT's 511PA travel conditions before heading out. Summer thunderstorms can pop up fast, just pull over and wait them out.

visityorkcounty.com/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and transparent. You'll pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card when you book, no cash handed to hosts and no surprise fees at pickup. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before your trip, with amounts set by the host based on the RV's value, and it's released after the host confirms the rig is returned in good shape. To avoid any issues, do a thorough walkthrough at pickup, take date-stamped photos of the interior and exterior, return the RV with the same fuel and propane level, and empty the holding tanks if your host requires it. Pro tip: most York-area hosts release deposits quickly when everything checks out.
