Campgrounds and RV parks near Valley View, PA

The York area combines industrial-heritage sightseeing with outdoor recreation. Visitors head to the Harley-Davidson factory tour in York, the Haines Shoe House along the Lincoln Highway in nearby Hallam, and Central Market in downtown York. Hersheypark, Hershey's Chocolate World, and ZooAmerica are roughly a half-hour drive to the northwest, and Gettysburg National Military Park is about an hour to the southwest. For water and trail time, Gifford Pinchot State Park offers boating, fishing, swimming, and hiking around 340-acre Pinchot Lake, plus ice fishing and cross-country skiing in winter when conditions allow. The Susquehanna River near Bainbridge is popular for paddling and fishing, and the York County Heritage Rail Trail runs south from the city for cycling and walking.

The main camping season in south-central Pennsylvania runs from mid-April through late October. Gifford Pinchot State Park's campground follows that window, opening in mid-April and closing in late October, with the full range of facilities available during that stretch and limited services outside those dates. Private parks such as Indian Rock Campgrounds and Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday typically operate on a similar seasonal schedule, with the KOA's outdoor pool open during warmer months only. Summer is peak. Weekends around Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day fill first, and state-park stays are capped at 14 consecutive nights between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Hersheypark's summer operating calendar and York-area festivals drive demand at the KOA and other private parks. Spring and fall bring cooler nights, fewer bugs, and easier bookings. Fall foliage in York County typically peaks from mid-October into early November. Winter camping is limited: most private parks close, and state-park amenities scale back, though ice fishing and cross-country skiing continue at Pinchot Lake when conditions allow.

Site types vary widely across the area. Gifford Pinchot State Park has 289 sites with macadam pads that accommodate everything from small tents to large motorhomes. Many sites offer 20, 30, or 50 amp electric only, and 22 sites include full water, sewer, and electric connections. The park also rents a cabin, yurt, and cottage, and modern bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers, plus a sanitary dump station, serve the campground. Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA Holiday leans resort-style, with full-hookup RV sites including pull-thrus for big rigs, KOA Patio sites, tent areas, camping cabins, and deluxe cabins with private baths. Amenities include a pool, mini golf, playgrounds, a camp store, Wi-Fi, and laundry. Cell coverage is generally strong across the York corridor. Note that alcohol is prohibited in Pennsylvania state parks, including Gifford Pinchot.
