How much should I budget for gas and fuel on a Twin Lakes, CA RV trip?

Most motorhome rentals average 8 to 12 MPG, while campervan rentals typically get 16 to 20 MPG. Forest Service campgrounds at Twin Lakes, including Lower Twin Lake and Robinson Creek, are reserved through Recreation.gov, while private resorts like Mono Village and Twin Lakes Resort are booked directly through their websites. Summer weekends and holidays often fill 3 to 6 months in advance, so book as soon as the reservation window opens (typically 6 months ahead on Recreation.gov). Shoulder seasons in May and September offer more flexibility for last-minute trips.

Are there any local driving challenges to know about for RV camping in Twin Lakes?

Roads into Twin Lakes are paved and RV-accessible, but Twin Lakes Road climbs steadily from Bridgeport with curves and grades, so drive slowly and use lower gears on descents. US-395 is well maintained but can see snow and ice from late fall through spring, with Sonora Pass and Tioga Pass closed in winter. Check Caltrans QuickMap for current conditions, and consider booking delivery so your host handles the mountain drive for you.
