2021 Thor Motor Coach Class C
The owners of the RV were kind and honest people. They were generous enough to be super flexible with the pickup and drop off times which was extremely helpful (i'm sure they cant do this for EVERYBODY, but they did for me). The RV was clean and everything worked well! Overall a great experience, we would definitely rent from them again in the future.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Calhan, CO
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Calhan, CO?
RV rental in Calhan, CO is one of the better values on Colorado's Front Range, with most travel trailers booking between $90 and $160 per night and Class C motorhomes typically running $175 to $295 per night. Pop-up campers and smaller campervans can dip below $90 if you're hunting for a cheap RV rental Calhan travelers love. To save the most, book midweek, aim for shoulder seasons like late April or mid-September, and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Pro tip: Calhan sits east of Colorado Springs on the high plains, so prices here often beat what you'd pay closer to Manitou Springs or Denver, making it a smart launch point for a budget-friendly Colorado road trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Calhan%2C%20ColoradoWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Calhan, Colorado?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Calhan, Colorado. The state does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes or travel trailers under 26,000 pounds, which covers essentially every RV on the RVezy platform. You'll need to be at least 25 years old, and RVezy verifies your ID quickly through the platform when you book. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home country license. That's it. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the paperwork is, leaving you free to focus on the fun part: planning your hike through the nearby Paint Mines Interpretive Park.
dmv.colorado.gov/drivers-licenseIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included when I book in Calhan?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Calhan includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can pull onto Highway 24 with real peace of mind. You choose your level of protection during checkout (not the host), and the plan covers eligible physical damage to the RV during your trip. If you get a flat tire on the dirt road out to Paint Mine Road, one phone call gets help dispatched. Pro tip: review the available coverage tiers at checkout and pick the one that matches your comfort level, especially if it's your first time renting an RV in Calhan.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Calhan RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation (not individual hosts), and it includes a grace period after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. After that window, refund amounts depend on how far out you are from your trip start date. If life changes, just reach out to RVezy support and they'll walk you through your options. Pro tip: book your RV rental in Calhan, CO early to lock in the best rigs for festival weekends like the El Paso County Fair, knowing you have clear cancellation guidelines if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Calhan RV trip?
Absolutely, plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental Calhan travelers love, and finding one is easy: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see every rig that welcomes your four-legged co-pilot. Some hosts charge a small pet fee or require extra cleaning, all clearly listed on the listing page. One important note for your itinerary: dogs are not allowed at Paint Mines Interpretive Park itself to protect the fragile clay formations and wildlife, but they're welcome on leash at nearby Fox Run Regional Park and Bear Creek Regional Park near Colorado Springs. Pro tip: pack extra water bowls for your pup, Calhan's high-plains elevation around 6,500 feet means dogs dehydrate faster than they do at sea level.
communityservices.elpasoco.com/parks-and-recreation/Can the RV be delivered to my campground near Calhan?
Yes, RV delivery Calhan is one of the most popular options on the platform, and it's a game-changer if you've never towed before. Many hosts will drive the RV directly to your campsite, KOA, county park, or even your driveway, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery fees are typically based on mileage from the host's location, and you can filter for Delivery on RVezy to see who offers it. This is especially handy if you're flying into Colorado Springs Airport (COS), about 35 miles west, and want to skip the rental car altogether. Pro tip: ask your host to deliver to Falcon Meadow RV Campground for an easy first-night setup.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Calhan%2C%20ColoradoHow does mileage work, and can I get unlimited miles?
Mileage is flexible because each host on RVezy sets their own policy, and yes, RV rental with unlimited mileage is available from many Calhan-area hosts, perfect for big loop trips. Most listings include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day) with a per-mile fee for anything over, and the exact numbers are spelled out on every listing before you book. For reference, Calhan sits 33 miles from Colorado Springs, 90 miles from Denver, 145 miles from Great Sand Dunes National Park, and 220 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park's east entrance. Pro tip: if you're planning a multi-stop Colorado loop, filter for unlimited mileage upfront so you can roam the Rockies without watching the odometer.

cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/CheyenneMountainWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip in Calhan?
Late April through early June and September into mid-October are the sweet spots for a Calhan RV trip. Spring brings wildflowers across the prairie and comfortable hiking temps in the 60s and 70s, while fall delivers crisp blue-sky days and dramatic light on the Paint Mines hoodoos. Summer (June through August) is warm with daytime highs in the mid-80s and afternoon thunderstorms rolling off the Rockies almost daily, so plan hikes for morning. Winters are cold (highs in the 40s, lows in the teens) with occasional snow, but a four-season RV with a furnace makes it doable. Pro tip: time your trip around the El Paso County Fair in late July at the Calhan Fairgrounds for a true small-town Colorado experience.
weather.gov/pub/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll be just fine, and Calhan is actually one of the best places in Colorado to learn. The roads around town are wide, flat, and lightly trafficked, with Highway 24 offering easy straight-shot driving back toward Colorado Springs. Every RVezy host gives you a complete walkthrough at pickup, covering how to operate the slide-outs, generator, water systems, and dump procedures, and most are happy to take a short practice drive with you. If you'd rather skip driving altogether, choose a host who offers delivery and setup. You can also message any host directly from the listing before booking to ask all the questions you want. Pro tip: start with a travel trailer under 25 feet or a Class C motorhome, both are forgiving for first-time renters tackling Colorado's high plains.
codot.gov/safetyWhat happens if I have a breakdown or problem on the road?
You're covered: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're parked at Paint Mines Interpretive Park or rolling down I-25. Common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing are handled directly through the roadside service. For mechanical questions or quirks specific to the rig, your host is typically reachable by phone or message during your trip, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number, your host's contact, and the nearest service town (Limon, about 45 miles east, has 24-hour fuel and basic auto services) in your phone before you head out.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are some great road trip destinations I can reach from Calhan?
Calhan is a fantastic launch pad for an RV road trip from Calhan into the heart of Colorado. Pikes Peak and the cog railway sit just 50 miles southwest, Garden of the Gods is about 40 miles away, and Royal Gorge Bridge near Cañon City is a scenic 90-mile drive. Push a bit farther and you can reach Great Sand Dunes National Park (145 miles, around 3 hours) or the wildlife and alpine lakes of Rocky Mountain National Park (220 miles, about 4 hours via Denver). Cross-border into other states? Travel within the U.S. is generally allowed, but Mexico is not covered by RVezy insurance. Pro tip: message your host before booking if you plan to cross state lines, just to confirm their mileage policy fits your route.
nps.gov/grsa/index.htmWhat should I budget for fuel on a Calhan RV trip?
Budgeting fuel for an RV rental in Colorado is easier than you'd think. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), travel trailers towed by a pickup get 10 to 14 MPG, and campervans like a Class B can hit 18 to 20 MPG. Colorado gas prices typically run close to the national average, hovering around $3.00 to $3.50 per gallon in 2026, with the closest stations to Calhan in Falcon (Loaf 'N Jug, Murphy USA) and Limon. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop in a Class C, expect to spend roughly $130 to $175 on fuel. Pro tip: top off in Falcon before heading east, gas options thin out fast once you cross into the eastern plains.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Calhan?
Booking early pays off big in this part of Colorado. For state parks like Cheyenne Mountain State Park and Mueller State Park, reservations open six months in advance through CPW Direct (Colorado Parks and Wildlife's official system) and summer weekends sell out within hours. Private campgrounds like Garden of the Gods RV Resort and KOA properties typically fill 2 to 3 months ahead for June through August. For a spring or fall trip, 3 to 4 weeks of lead time is usually plenty. Pro tip: if you're trying to catch the El Paso County Fair in Calhan or Pikes Peak International Hill Climb weekend in late June, book your campground the moment dates are announced, sites near Colorado Springs disappear fastest.
cpw.state.co.us/buyapply/Pages/Camping.aspxWhat are driving conditions like around Calhan?
Driving around Calhan is refreshingly easy: Highway 24 is a flat, two-lane state highway with wide shoulders and light traffic, perfect for a first RV trip. The short drive south to Paint Mines Interpretive Park on Paint Mine Road is well-maintained dirt, fine for any RV in dry conditions but slick and best avoided right after heavy rain or snow. Watch for crosswinds on the open plains, especially in spring, and keep an eye on summer afternoon thunderstorms that can bring sudden hail. Heading west toward Colorado Springs, the terrain stays around 6,000 to 6,500 feet with no mountain passes required. Pro tip: check CDOT's COtrip.org for live road conditions before any winter trip, and avoid driving I-25 through the Springs at rush hour.
codot.gov/travel/road-conditionsWhere can I dump tanks and fill fresh water near Calhan?
You've got several convenient options nearby. Falcon Meadow RV Campground offers dump station and potable water access for a small fee even if you're not staying overnight. Cheyenne Mountain State Park has a public dump station available to non-campers for about $10. Most KOA properties around Colorado Springs (including Colorado Springs KOA in Fountain) sell dump and water services to drop-ins. Many full-hookup sites at the best campgrounds near Calhan include sewer right at your site, so you can skip the dump-station shuffle entirely. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank before heading out to Paint Mines or any boondocking spot on the eastern plains, potable water sources are rare once you're east of Calhan toward Limon.
cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/CheyenneMountainWhat amenities can I expect inside my Calhan rental RV?
Modern comfort is the norm. Most RVs on RVezy in the Calhan area come fully equipped with sleeping for 4 to 8 people, a kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control (furnace plus air conditioning), and dinette seating that often converts to extra beds. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and a generator or solar setup for off-grid use; some campervan rental Calhan options add Wi-Fi hotspots. Seatbelts for travel are listed on each rig so you'll know exactly how many can ride safely. Pro tip: filter listings by the number of seatbelted seats (not just sleeping capacity) if you're traveling with a larger group, it's the detail most first-timers forget to check.
dmv.colorado.gov/seat-beltsWhat add-ons and pickup options are available?
Hosts offer all kinds of extras to make your trip easier. Popular add-ons include camping chairs and tables, propane refills, bike racks, generators, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, and Starlink Wi-Fi, with fees clearly listed on every listing (usually $10 to $50 per item). Pickup is typically at the host's home base near Calhan, Falcon, or Colorado Springs, with delivery available from many hosts for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies and pickup/dropoff windows are all spelled out upfront. Instant Book listings let you confirm immediately without waiting for host approval. Pro tip: bundling delivery, setup, and a linen package is the move for a family RV trip Calhan first-timers love, you arrive at the campground and everything's already done.
communityservices.elpasoco.com/parks-and-recreation/How do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is smooth and secure: you pay through RVezy directly when you book, with no cash or checks to the host. The security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and shown on each listing before you book, then released after a successful return. To avoid any issues, take time-stamped photos of the RV's interior and exterior at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's mileage and generator-hour policies, return the rig clean with tanks dumped (or pay the dump fee), and refuel to the agreed level. Pro tip: if anything seems off during your walkthrough, message your host through the RVezy app right then so it's documented, this single habit prevents most deposit disputes.
