Incredible Adventure with The Roam Wagon! We had an amazing experience renting the Roam Wagon! From start to finish, everything was seamless. This little trailer was clean, well-maintained, and fully equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable camping trip — including a cozy rooftop tent, solar powered generator, fridge & kitchen essentials, bathroom and many other thoughtful extras that made a big difference. Towing and parking the trailer was easy, and hooked up to our 2025 Ford Bronco Sport Outer Banks Sasquatch it handled both highways and scenic backroads like a champ. Whether we were camping off-grid or staying at sites with hookups, the setup made it incredibly flexible and fun. The owner, Justin, was fantastic to communicate with — super responsive, helpful, and clearly passionate about making sure renters have a great time. We really appreciated the detailed orientation and tips before we hit the road. If you’re looking for a fun, reliable, and stylish way to explore, we highly recommend the Roam Wagon. It definitely made our trip unforgettable. We’d rent it again in a heartbeat!

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Johnstown, Colorado. The Colorado Department of Revenue confirms that a standard Class C operator's license covers any two-axle vehicle and tow trailers under 10,000 pounds gross weight, which fits virtually every motorhome, campervan, and travel trailer on RVezy. Can I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Johnstown?

Absolutely, your dog is welcome on the adventure. Plenty of hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental Johnstown families love, and you can filter listings by the Pet-Friendly tag to see them instantly. Johnstown is a great launchpad for dog-loving travelers: Boyd Lake State Park (about 15 minutes north) allows leashed dogs in the campground and day-use areas, and Carter Lake just west of town has dog-friendly shorelines. Note that dogs are not allowed on trails inside Rocky Mountain National Park, but the surrounding Roosevelt National Forest welcomes them. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees (usually $25 to $75) and ask about pet-friendly campgrounds nearby.

Can I get RV delivery in Johnstown so I do not have to drive it myself?

Yes, and it is a great option for first-time renters. Many Johnstown hosts offer RV delivery directly to your campground, driveway, or event venue, then handle the full setup including leveling, hookups, and a walkthrough of every system. RV delivery in Johnstown is especially popular for travelers heading to Rocky Mountain National Park campgrounds like Moraine Park or Glacier Basin, where backing in a 30-foot rig can feel intimidating. Filter listings by Delivery to see who offers it and how far they will go. Pro tip: hosts typically charge a per-mile delivery fee, so staying within a 30-mile radius of Johnstown (Loveland, Fort Collins, Greeley, or Estes Park) keeps costs friendly.

How far can I drive, and what about mileage policies?

You've got room to roam. Most Johnstown hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some listings offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for longer Colorado road trips. Each listing clearly shows the included miles and the per-mile rate for overages (typically $0.30 to $0.50). To put it in perspective from Johnstown: Estes Park is about 35 miles, Rocky Mountain National Park's Beaver Meadows Entrance is 40 miles, Denver is 50 miles, Boulder is 40 miles, and Colorado Springs is 120 miles. A typical 4-night Front Range loop runs 250 to 400 miles total. Pro tip: filter for unlimited mileage listings if you're planning a bigger loop through Glenwood Springs or Grand Junction.

When is the best time to take an RV trip from Johnstown?

Late May through early October is prime time for a Johnstown RV trip. Summer highs in Johnstown average 85 to 92°F with cool nights in the 50s, perfect for campfires. June through August brings the warmest weather and full access to Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park (typically open Memorial Day weekend to mid-October). September is the local insider favorite: aspens turn gold, elk bugle in Estes Park, daytime temps sit in the comfortable 70s, and campgrounds are noticeably quieter. Winters are cold (lows around 12 to 20°F) and snowy with about 38 to 48 inches of annual snowfall, but winter RV rentals are available for hardy adventurers heading to ski country. Pro tip: book the third week of September for peak aspen color.

I've never rented an RV before. How does it work in Johnstown?

You're in great hands, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every Johnstown host on RVezy provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, hookups, and driving tips for Colorado's I-25 corridor. You'll leave knowing how to start, stop, dump, and fill everything. Want to skip the driving entirely? Choose a host offering delivery and setup. Renters can also message hosts before booking to ask anything (Are the brakes assisted? Is there backup camera? How does the awning work?). Pro tip: arrive at pickup with 30 to 45 minutes to spare so you can ask questions without feeling rushed. Most first-timers say it's easier than they expected.

What happens if I have a breakdown or roadside emergency?

You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat on I-25, run out of fuel on Highway 34 climbing to Estes Park, or need a jump start at your campsite, help is one call away. The service covers towing, tire changes, lockouts, jump starts, and fuel delivery. For mechanical issues with the RV itself, message your host directly through the RVezy app, since they know their vehicle best and can usually troubleshoot quickly. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before you leave Johnstown, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN.

What are the best road trips I can take from Johnstown, CO?

You're parked at one of Colorado's best launchpads. Popular RV road trip from Johnstown routes include: Rocky Mountain National Park via Estes Park (40 miles, 1 hour), Grand Lake and the park's quieter west side via Trail Ridge Road (110 miles, 3 hours seasonal), Steamboat Springs (160 miles, 3 hours through gorgeous mountain country), Black Canyon of the Gunnison (300 miles), and Mesa Verde National Park (400 miles for a full week-long Colorado loop). Cross-border into Wyoming is easy too, with Cheyenne just 60 miles north for the Frontier Days rodeo. Note that travel to Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals due to insurance coverage. Pro tip: the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway is a stunning alternative route back from Estes Park.

What should I budget for fuel on a Johnstown RV trip?

Fuel is the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's easy to budget. Colorado regular gas typically runs $3.20 to $3.80 per gallon, with Johnstown's Johnson's Corner truck stop on I-25 often a few cents cheaper than Loveland or Fort Collins stations. Realistic fuel economy: campervans (Class B) get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, Class A motorhomes get 6 to 10 MPG, and a truck towing a travel trailer gets 10 to 14 MPG. For a 4-night trip averaging 350 miles in a Class C, plan on $120 to $175 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Johnstown or Loveland before heading into Estes Park, where mountain-town gas can run 30 to 50 cents higher per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Johnstown?

The earlier the better, but you have options either way. Rocky Mountain National Park campgrounds (Moraine Park, Glacier Basin, Aspenglen, Timber Creek) open reservations on Recreation.gov six months in advance on a rolling window, and summer dates frequently fill within minutes of release. Colorado Parks and Wildlife campgrounds like Boyd Lake and St. Vrain State Park also book six months ahead through cpw.state.co.us. Private RV parks in Johnstown and Loveland are usually more flexible, often bookable just a few weeks out. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder exactly six months before your desired arrival date and be online at 8 a.m. Mountain Time when bookings open. For last-minute trips, 40 percent of RMNP sites release the day before arrival at 5 p.m. MDT.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2907

What are driving conditions like around Johnstown and the Front Range?

Johnstown is one of the easiest places in Colorado to start an RV trip. The town sits along I-25 at about 4,800 feet elevation, with flat, well-maintained roads and gentle on-ramps that are friendly for first-time RV drivers. Traffic on I-25 between Denver and Fort Collins is heaviest weekday mornings (6 to 9 a.m.) and afternoons (3 to 6 p.m.), so plan your departure outside those windows. Heading west toward Estes Park, US-34 climbs through the Big Thompson Canyon with curves and a few tight sections, manageable at 35 to 45 mph in a motorhome. Watch for sudden afternoon thunderstorms (May to August) and high crosswinds on I-25. In winter, check cotrip.org for chain laws and closures.
codot.gov/travel/colorado-road-conditions

What amenities can I expect at Johnstown-area campgrounds?

Most Front Range campgrounds make RV life simple. Private parks near Johnstown like RV Retreat, Riverview RV Park, and North Shore RV Park at Carter Lake offer full hookups (20/30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, showers, and dump stations. State parks like Boyd Lake provide electric hookups, potable water fill stations, dump stations, and flush toilets, but typically no sewer at the site. Rocky Mountain National Park campgrounds have no hookups at all, though Moraine Park offers limited 20/30/50 amp electric and a dump station near the ranger station. Pro tip: for where to park an RV in Johnstown overnight without a full campground, the Johnson's Corner travel plaza on I-25 is a long-standing trucker and RVer stop.
cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/BoydLake/Pages/Camping.aspx

What's included inside the RV (beds, kitchen, bathroom, Wi-Fi)?

You're getting a home on wheels. A typical motorhome rental Johnstown listing includes a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink, cookware), a bathroom with toilet and shower, multiple sleeping areas (queen bed, convertible dinette, bunk or cab-over bed), heating, air conditioning, a TV/DVD, USB charging, and seatbelts for every traveler. Campervan rental Johnstown options (Class B) are more compact but still pack a kitchenette, bed, and often a wet bath. Generators are common on Class A and C rigs for off-grid power; Wi-Fi is sometimes included or available as an add-on. Each RVezy listing clearly shows what's included and what's optional. Pro tip: confirm sleeps count on the listing matches your group; oversized claims are rare but worth verifying.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rv-safety

What add-ons can I get, and how do pickup and drop-off work?

Hosts make it easy to customize. Popular Johnstown add-ons include kitchen kits ($30 to $75), bedding and linens ($25 to $50 per bed), camping chairs and outdoor tables ($15 to $30), bike racks, generators, propane tanks pre-filled, and Wi-Fi hotspots. Each fee is listed transparently on the host's listing. Pickup typically happens at the host's home or storage lot in or near Johnstown, with most hosts allowing 30 to 60 minutes for orientation. Standard checkout is between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., though many hosts are flexible if you message ahead. Pro tip: ask the host about a generator add-on if you're heading to Rocky Mountain National Park campgrounds, since none of the in-park sites have full hookups (except limited electric at Moraine Park).
nps.gov/romo/planyourvisit/camping.htm

How does payment work, and what is the security deposit?

Payments are simple and secure. When you book your RV rental in Johnstown through RVezy, you pay the full rental cost (plus any add-ons and the protection plan you choose) by credit card through the platform, never directly to the host. A refundable security deposit is placed as a temporary hold on your card before the trip, separate from the booking payment, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV and protection level you select. The hold is released after the host confirms the RV came back in good condition, usually within a few business days of trip completion. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkthrough at pickup, photograph any existing dings or scratches, and return the RV at the agreed fuel and propane levels with tanks dumped if required.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-works

Can I take my Johnstown RV rental into Wyoming or other states?

Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most Johnstown rentals. Cheyenne, Wyoming is just 60 miles north on I-25, making it an easy day trip or overnight, and longer cross-state routes through Nebraska, Utah, New Mexico, Kansas, and South Dakota are popular too. Important: travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the insurance and protection plan do not cover travel south of the U.S. border. Travel to Canada may be allowed with host approval and proper documentation, so message the host first if you are planning a northern adventure. Pro tip: from Johnstown, the Black Hills of South Dakota (Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park) are a stunning 350-mile drive and one of the most underrated RV road trips in the region.
