Paonia RV rental reviews - 5 out of 5 from 36 renters
2019 Class B
We had the best experience renting from Irina. The van is well maintained, clean & has all the power you need to drive up Monarch pass. It’s nice having a restroom, shower & kitchen in the van. The host walked us through the whole van, how to use the heater, air conditioner, & all the necessary systems. She was available in case we had any problems or questions. I would highly recommend renting from this host!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Paonia, CO
How much does an RV rental in Paonia typically cost?
Renting an RV in Paonia is refreshingly affordable compared to bigger Colorado mountain towns like Aspen or Crested Butte. On RVezy, travel trailers often start around $90 to $150 per night, campervans run roughly $150 to $225, and larger Class C motorhomes typically land between $200 and $300 nightly. Hosts set their own pricing, so you can find genuine deals in May, early June, or late September after the harvest rush. For a cheap RV rental in Paonia, filter by travel trailers and book mid-week. Pro tip: pair your stay with the Mountain Harvest Festival in September for unbeatable value and small-town charm.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Paonia,ColoradoWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Paonia?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Paonia. Colorado does not require a commercial driver's license or special endorsement for personal RVs, including large Class A motorhomes and fifth wheels. To book on RVezy you generally need to be 25 or older, and your ID is verified securely through the platform before your trip begins. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home license. Most first-time renters are surprised how quick the process is, often confirmed within hours so you can start planning your North Fork Valley adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs the RV protected if something goes wrong during my trip?
Yes. Every RVezy booking in Paonia includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can explore the West Elk Loop with peace of mind. Protection plans offer meaningful financial coverage for damage to the RV, and during checkout you choose from different tiers based on the level of coverage you want, so you stay in control. That's especially reassuring on mountain roads like Kebler Pass, where weather can shift quickly. Combined with your host's pre-trip walkthrough, you'll feel ready and supported from pickup to drop-off.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Paonia RV rental?
You can book with confidence because RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy, and there is a money-back grace period built in right after booking. If plans shift or severe weather closes a pass like McClure or Kebler, RVezy's standard cancellation policy applies based on how far out your trip is. If a host cancels, you receive a full refund or travel credit. The takeaway: booking your Paonia RV trip is a low-risk decision, and RVezy support is there to help if anything changes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Paonia RV rental?
Yes, plenty of pet-friendly RV rentals in Paonia welcome your four-legged co-pilot. On RVezy, toggle the Pet-Friendly filter to instantly see hosts who allow dogs. The North Fork Valley is wonderfully dog-friendly: Jumbo Mountain trails just outside town allow leashed pups, and Paonia State Park plus the surrounding Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests permit leashed dogs on most trails. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee, then pack a tie-out, water bowl, and booties for hot pavement in July and August.
fs.usda.gov/gmugCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Paonia?
Yes, RV delivery in Paonia is one of the smartest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time. Many RVezy hosts in the North Fork Valley will drive the RV directly to Paonia State Park, Crawford State Park, or a private orchard stay, then level it, hook it up, and walk you through every system. That means no towing through mountain passes and no setup stress. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message your host to confirm distance fees. Insider tip: delivery to Hawsapple or Spruce campgrounds at Paonia State Park is a favorite for stress-free first-timers.
cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/PaoniaStateParkHow far can I travel from Paonia on a typical RV rental?

From Paonia you can reach Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (about 45 miles south), Grand Mesa National Forest (about 35 miles north), Crested Butte over Kebler Pass (about 30 miles in summer), Crawford State Park (about 20 miles), and Telluride (about 110 miles southwest). Many RVezy hosts include generous mileage, and you can filter for an RV rental with unlimited mileage if you're planning a longer loop. Pro tip: ask your host about the West Elk Loop Scenic Byway, a roughly 200-mile drive that's pure Colorado magic.
codot.gov/travel/scenic-byways/northwest/west-elk-loopWhere are the best campgrounds near Paonia to stay in an RV?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Paonia. Paonia State Park (about 15 miles east on Highway 133) offers Spruce and Hawsapple campgrounds along Anthracite Creek with vault toilets and water. Crawford State Park, about 20 miles south, has Iron Creek and other loops with electric hookups. Private options near town include Big B's Delicious Orchards, which offers unique orchard camping and RV spots. cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/CrawfordStateParkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip to Paonia?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for an RV rental in Paonia, with summer days typically in the 80s F and cool 40 to 50 F nights perfect for campfires. July brings the famous Cherry Days festival, August is peach harvest, and September delivers the Mountain Harvest Festival plus golden aspens around Kebler Pass that draw photographers from around the country. Spring is gorgeous for orchard blossoms in April and May. Winters can dip into the teens and high passes close, so most rentals run from spring through fall. Insider tip: late September is the local favorite, fewer crowds, harvest in full swing, and aspens glowing.
weather.gov/gjt/I'm renting an RV for the first time. Will I know what I'm doing?
Yes, and you'll feel surprisingly capable by the end of pickup day. Every RVezy host in Paonia provides a hands-on orientation covering the generator, propane, slide-outs, water and waste tanks, and driving tips for local terrain. You can message hosts before booking with any first time renting an RV questions, and 24/7 roadside assistance has your back the whole trip. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, choose a host who delivers and sets up at Paonia State Park or your driveway. Pro tip: pick a smaller travel trailer or Class C for your first Paonia RV trip, they're forgiving on Highway 133's curves.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if I break down or have a problem on the road?
You're never on your own. Every Paonia RV rental on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering tire changes, towing, lockouts, jump-starts, and fuel delivery. Your host is a phone call or message away for vehicle-specific quirks, and RVezy customer support is reachable before, during, and after your trip. Cell service can get patchy on forest roads above town and along Kebler Pass, so download offline maps and screenshot key phone numbers before you head out. Paonia itself has reliable service, a hospital nearby in Delta, and friendly locals happy to point you toward the nearest mechanic if needed.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat kind of gas mileage should I expect, and what will fuel cost?
Plan smart and your fuel budget stays in check. Travel trailers towed by your own vehicle vary widely, but motorhomes around Paonia typically deliver 8 to 12 mpg for Class A, 10 to 14 mpg for Class C, and 16 to 20 mpg for campervans. Most rigs run on regular unleaded; diesel pushers use diesel. Gas in Paonia and nearby Hotchkiss is usually a bit cheaper than in Aspen or Crested Butte, so fill up before heading over Kebler Pass. Pro tip: a 200-mile West Elk Loop in a Class C will run roughly 15 to 20 gallons, easy to budget for a weekend RV road trip from Paonia.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Paonia?
For peace of mind, book your campground as soon as your RV rental in Paonia is confirmed. Colorado State Parks like Paonia and Crawford open reservations up to six months in advance through the official Colorado Parks and Wildlife reservation system, and prime summer weekends, especially July 4th and Labor Day, fill fast. National Forest sites in Grand Mesa and Gunnison can be reserved on Recreation.gov, also six months out. Private parks take direct bookings and often sell out for fall aspen season by August. Insider tip: midweek nights in September often have last-minute availability even when weekends are full.
recreation.gov/What are local driving conditions like around Paonia?
Driving around Paonia is genuinely enjoyable once you know the lay of the land. Highway 133 through the North Fork Valley is paved, scenic, and easy for any RV, with gentle grades down toward Hotchkiss and Delta. McClure Pass north toward Carbondale climbs to 8,755 feet on a well-maintained paved highway, while Kebler Pass east to Crested Butte is a seasonal dirt road, beautiful but better for smaller rigs or tow vehicles. Summer afternoon thunderstorms are common, so plan driving for mornings. Winter brings snow and pass closures from roughly November through May. Pro tip: check CDOT's COtrip site the morning of any pass crossing for real-time conditions.
codot.gov/travel/colorado-road-conditionsWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Paonia?
Campground amenities near Paonia range from full-service to wonderfully rustic, so there's a fit for every traveler. Several private parks near town offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer) and dump stations. Crawford State Park provides electric hookups, potable water, and a dump station. Paonia State Park is more rustic, with vault toilets and drinking water but no hookups, perfect for using your RV's onboard tanks. For dumping and filling between trips, the town of Delta has public RV dump options about 30 miles west. Pro tip: top off fresh water in Paonia before heading to dispersed sites on Grand Mesa, where potable water is scarce.
cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/PaoniaStateParkWhat features and amenities will the RV itself have?
RVezy rentals in Paonia come well-equipped for a comfortable mountain trip. Most listings include a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and cookware, a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control with furnace and air conditioning, beds for 2 to 8 people depending on size, and dinette seating with seatbelts. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and onboard generator for boondocking. Each listing shows exactly what's included, so you can compare side by side. Pro tip: for Paonia's cool 40 to 55 F summer nights at elevation, look for a rig with a propane furnace and extra blankets, your future self will thank you around 6 a.m.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Paonia,ColoradoWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in Paonia offer a great mix of add-ons to make your RV trip easier. Common extras include camping chairs and tables, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, bike racks, generators, and even kayaks or e-bikes. Many hosts offer delivery within roughly 25 miles of Paonia, often free for short distances and a per-mile fee beyond that. Mileage policies vary by host, with some offering 100 to 150 free miles per night and others including unlimited mileage. Each listing spells out fees clearly. Pro tip: bundling delivery, setup, and a linen package turns your motorhome rental in Paonia into a near-resort experience.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Paonia,ColoradoHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay through RVezy at booking using a credit card, which keeps your transaction protected. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before your trip and released after drop-off, assuming no damage or policy violations. To avoid any deposit issues, do a thorough walk-through with your host at pickup, take photos of the exterior and interior, return the RV on time with the agreed fuel and propane levels, and follow the mileage policy. Pro tip: empty waste tanks at a Delta or Crawford dump station before returning, it's a small step that keeps everything smooth.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take a Paonia RV rental on a cross-state or cross-border road trip?
Yes, interstate road trips from Paonia are encouraged and easy to plan. Popular routes include Moab, Utah (about 150 miles west) for red-rock RV camping, Mesa Verde National Park (about 175 miles south), Rocky Mountain National Park (about 280 miles northeast), Great Sand Dunes (about 215 miles southeast), and Arches and Canyonlands via Grand Junction. Most hosts welcome travel throughout the continental US, just confirm in the listing or by messaging before booking. Travel into Mexico isn't permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage don't extend there. Canada-bound trips may be possible with host approval. Pro tip: the drive from Paonia to Moab via Grand Junction is stunning and entirely RV-friendly.
