Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Dundalk?

Good news: for nearly every RV you rent on RVezy in Dundalk, a regular driver's license is all you need. Maryland's Motor Vehicle Administration does not require a special license for non-commercial recreational vehicles used for personal travel, which covers the vast majority of Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers on the platform. RVezy approved drivers must generally be at least 25 years old with a valid driver's license, and RVezy verifies your ID during booking. Visiting from abroad? An International Driving Permit paired with your home license keeps things simple.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Dundalk?

Late April through mid-June and September through October are the sweet spot for any Dundalk RV trip. Spring brings mild 60-75F days, blooming dogwoods, and Maryland's blue crab season. Fall delivers crisp 55-70F weather, fewer mosquitos, and beautiful foliage through Patapsco Valley and the Catoctin Mountains. July and August are warm and humid (often 85-95F with afternoon thunderstorms), so look for an RV with strong air conditioning and head toward the Chesapeake breeze. Winters are mild but variable (30-45F), and some campgrounds close from November through March, so verify dates before booking shoulder-season trips.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?

You are going to be just fine, and most first-time renters are surprised how quickly it clicks. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking through the generator, slides, water hookups, dump procedure, and dashboard controls so nothing is a mystery. You can message your host with questions before booking, and they are reachable during your trip too. For a low-stress first time renting an RV in Dundalk, start with a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer (under 25 feet) and pick a campground within 90 minutes like Patapsco Valley or Bar Harbor RV Park. By night two, you will feel like a pro.

Can I take my Dundalk RV rental across state lines or to Canada?

Yes, an interstate RV road trip from Dundalk is encouraged. You can cruise into Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, New Jersey, and beyond with no extra paperwork. Popular routes include Lancaster County Amish country (about 90 miles north), Rehoboth Beach, DE (about 120 miles east), and the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and the rig's coverage, so message the host before booking to confirm. One firm rule: travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection plan does not extend there.

What kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?

Realistic budgeting makes your RV camping Dundalk trip smoother. Expect roughly 8-10 mpg for a Class A, 10-14 mpg for a Class C, 18-22 mpg for a Class B campervan, and your tow vehicle's mpg minus 4-6 for a travel trailer. Regular gasoline in the Baltimore-Columbia-Towson area generally tracks close to the national average, so check current pump prices before you head out. A 300-mile round trip to Ocean City in a Class C typically runs around $75 to $120 in fuel. Pro tip: fuel up in Dundalk or Essex before hitting I-95 north, as highway-adjacent stations are often pricier.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Dundalk?

Lock it in early for the best experience. Maryland State Parks like Patapsco Valley, Susquehanna, and Elk Neck open reservations up to one year ahead through parkreservations.maryland.gov, and prime Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends genuinely sell out months in advance. Private parks like Bar Harbor RV Park and Cherry Hill Park typically book 3-6 months ahead for summer weekends but often have midweek openings just a week out. Pro tip: if your first choice is full, check the Maryland reservation site on Sunday evenings, when many last-minute cancellations appear.

What is driving like around Dundalk in an RV?

Driving an RV in Dundalk is very manageable once you know the local quirks. The Baltimore Beltway (I-695) loops right past town and helps you avoid downtown. Avoid the Fort McHenry Tunnel (I-95) and the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (I-895) in any RV carrying propane, as those tunnels prohibit hazardous materials, and use I-695 instead (note that the Francis Scott Key Bridge is being rebuilt after the 2024 collapse, so follow posted detours). Traffic peaks 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. on weekdays. Pro tip: leave Dundalk before 7 a.m. or after 7 p.m. for a relaxed start to any RV road trip from Dundalk.

What amenities do local campgrounds offer for RVs?

Campgrounds near Dundalk run the full range, from primitive to resort-style. Cherry Hill Park in College Park offers full hookups (30/50 amp electric, water, sewer), Wi-Fi, a pool, and a shuttle to D.C. Bar Harbor RV Park has waterfront full-hookup sites plus a dump station and marina. Patapsco Valley State Park's Hollofield Area has electric sites and bathhouses with an on-site dump station. For fresh water fills and dump stations on the road, the Maryland House and Chesapeake House travel plazas on I-95 have RV-friendly facilities. Pro tip: confirm site length when booking, as many older Maryland parks max out around 35 feet.

What is actually inside the RV I am renting?

Your campervan rental Dundalk or motorhome will arrive ready to camp. Most Class C and Class A motorhomes on RVezy include a queen or king bed, a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, a dinette that converts to a bed, air conditioning, a furnace, a generator or shore power, and a TV. Travel trailers offer similar layouts minus the cab. Each listing details exactly what is included (Wi-Fi hotspot, outdoor speakers, bike racks, kayaks) so you know before you book. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and check seatbelt count to match your travel group, especially for a family RV trip from Dundalk.

What add-ons, fees, and pickup details should I expect?

Most hosts in the Baltimore area offer optional add-ons that make life easier: linen and kitchen kits ($25-$75), generator hours, propane prefill, bike racks, camping chairs, and kayaks. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a nearby meeting spot in Dundalk, Essex, or Sparrows Point, and runs 30-60 minutes for the walkthrough. Drop-off is typically the same. Mileage policies vary (often 100-150 free miles per night with extra miles at $0.30-$0.45 each), so message the host if you are planning a longer RV road trip from Dundalk. Pro tip: ask about a late-return buffer if you are driving back from Assateague or Shenandoah on a Sunday.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dundalk%2C%20Maryland

How do payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is simple and secure on RVezy. You pay through the platform with a credit or debit card when you book, never directly to the host, which keeps your money protected. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) and pre-authorized on your card before the trip rather than charged. Assuming you return the RV in the agreed condition with the agreed mileage and fuel level, the hold is released after the trip. To avoid issues, take date-stamped photos of the interior, exterior, and odometer at both pickup and drop-off, and follow the host's checkout checklist.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-works

Where can I park or stay overnight in an RV around Dundalk?

Knowing where to park an RV in Dundalk saves stress. Overnight street parking in Baltimore County is generally not allowed for RVs, so plan to stay at a campground each night. The closest options inside about 30 minutes are Bar Harbor RV Park in Abingdon, Patapsco Valley State Park's Hollofield Area in Ellicott City, and Duncan's Family Campground in Lothian. Some local big-box store lots have historically allowed overnight RV stays with manager permission, but always call ahead to confirm. Pro tip: many RVezy hosts will let you stage the rig in their driveway the night before pickup if you are flying into BWI, just ask.
