Karina was very responsive, the meet up to pick up and drop off went smoothly. We did have a couple issues with the RV panel that it needed to reboot for every generator use. They said they were aware and were planning on replacing. We were unable to see grey and black water usage levels. The A/C works but only on a high level and vents are a bit broken and don't stay open without putting something in place to keep them open. Overall the RV was great for our girls trip. We had 4 adult women and it was good for what we needed. There are solar panels and satellite but we were not sure how to use it and it was not explained, so we can not give any review on those features. It would've been good to have an owners manual on how the RV operates with those features a long with anything else. Took a couple days just to figure out the quirks but it did not interfere with our trip. The main door lock did break, but I was able to get it replaced at the end of the trip. Overall, I would definitely rent again given some of the little things being resolved as it is a great RV.

Late May through early October is the sweet spot for RV camping Indian Hills, with daytime highs from 70 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit and cool 40 to 55 degree nights at this 4,800 foot elevation. June and September are local insider favorites: warm enough for Lake Tahoe beach days, cool enough that you don't need to run the AC nonstop. Winters are cold (highs in the 40s, lows in the 20s) with snow over Kingsbury Grade and Spooner Summit, so many hosts pause winter bookings or require chains. Spring brings stunning wildflowers in the Carson Valley meadows.

I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?

You'll do great, first time renting an RV is exactly who RVezy is built for. Every host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking through the propane, generator, slide-outs, dump valves, and driving tips for the actual rig you're taking out. If you'd rather skip driving altogether, choose a host who offers delivery and setup. You can also message any host before booking to ask about height, length, and what local routes they recommend.

You are never on your own. Every Indian Hills RV rental on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, towing, and fuel delivery. Can I take the RV across state lines or into California?

Yes, crossing into California is one of the best parts of an RV road trip from Indian Hills, and most hosts welcome it. Lake Tahoe's California shore, Yosemite, Mono Lake, and Death Valley are all classic add-ons. Travel into other neighboring states like Oregon, Utah, and Arizona is generally allowed too, just confirm with your host when you book so they can update the trip details. What kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?

Plan on roughly 8 to 10 mpg for a Class C motorhome, 10 to 14 mpg for a campervan, and 12 to 18 mpg for a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. Carson City and Minden gas stations typically run a few cents cheaper than South Lake Tahoe, so top off in Indian Hills before climbing toward the lake. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop through Tahoe and Virginia City, budget about $180 to $280 in fuel depending on RV size. Pro tip: the Costco in Carson City (membership required) usually has the lowest diesel and unleaded prices in the valley.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far ahead should I book campgrounds in the area?

For peak summer (mid-June through Labor Day), book Lake Tahoe area campgrounds 4 to 6 months ahead, federal sites like Nevada Beach and Zephyr Cove open reservations exactly 6 months out on Recreation.gov at 7 a.m. Pacific and fill within minutes for weekends. Nevada State Parks like Washoe Lake use ReserveNevada.com and tend to be easier to grab 2 to 4 weeks out. Private parks such as Carson Valley RV Resort and Camp N Town often have midweek openings even in July. Lock in your RV on RVezy first, then your campsite, that order saves the most headaches.

What are the local driving conditions like around Indian Hills?

Driving around Indian Hills is friendlier than most mountain destinations. US-395 through Carson Valley is a wide, gently graded four-lane highway that is comfortable for any RV. The terrain gets more technical when you climb: Kingsbury Grade (NV-207) to South Lake Tahoe has steep grades and tight switchbacks, Spooner Summit on US-50 tops out at 7,146 feet, and Geiger Grade to Virginia City is steep and winding. Use low gear on descents to save your brakes. Winter brings snow and chain controls between November and April, so check NDOT road conditions before crossing any pass.

What amenities can I expect at local campgrounds, and where can I dump and refill water?

Campgrounds around Indian Hills range from full-hookup resorts to rustic forest sites, so there's something for every comfort level. Carson Valley RV Resort, Camp N Town, and Topaz Lodge RV Park offer 30/50-amp power, water, sewer, Wi-Fi, and laundry. Public dump stations are available at the Carson City Public Works yard and several Flying J / Pilot stations along US-395. Potable water fills are easy at most private parks (often free for guests, a few dollars for non-guests). National Forest campgrounds near Lake Tahoe usually have vault toilets and a central potable water spigot but no individual hookups, so dump before heading back down.

Expect sleeping for 2 to 8 (queen beds, bunks, convertible dinettes), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink and basic cookware, and a bathroom with toilet and shower in most Class B, C, and travel trailer rentals. Air conditioning, furnace, and a TV are standard in nearly every motorhome rental Indian Hills hosts list. What add-ons and pickup options are available?

Hosts offering campervan rental Indian Hills and motorhome rentals customize the experience with add-ons like bedding and linen packages, camp chairs, fire pits, bikes, kayaks, paddleboards, generators, Wi-Fi hotspots, and pre-stocked kitchen kits. Most pickups happen at the host's home in Indian Hills, Minden, or Gardnerville, but delivery to local campgrounds, Reno-Tahoe International Airport (about 50 miles north), or your Tahoe vacation rental is widely available for a fee. Mileage allowances usually range from 100 to 150 free miles per night with unlimited mileage available as an upgrade. Pick your add-ons during checkout and the total is locked in before you pay.
visitcarsonvalley.org/

How does payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy when you book, not in cash to the host, which protects you from start to finish. A refundable security deposit is placed on hold (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) shortly before your trip starts and released after drop-off, assuming no damage, excess mileage, or extra cleaning is needed. To avoid surprises, do a quick walk-around with the host at pickup and drop-off, take date-stamped photos, return the RV with the same fuel and propane level, and empty the tanks if the listing requires it.

Can I rent an RV in winter for a Tahoe ski trip?

Yes, winter RV rental in Indian Hills, NV is a fun way to do a Tahoe ski trip without paying lodge prices, and several local hosts keep their rigs available year-round. Look for listings that mention four-season insulation, heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, and a propane furnace, those features keep things cozy when nights drop into the teens. Plan to stay at a winter-open park with full shore power like Carson Valley RV Resort, since boondocking in deep snow drains batteries fast. Carry tire chains (Nevada and California require them during chain controls) and check NDOT's road status before heading over Spooner Summit or Kingsbury Grade.
