The camper was clean, comfortable and was perfect for what was needed. They are very accommodating as Greg had to delivery one to a location almost two hours away one way. Then had to turn around and drop off to me which is around an hour. Every thing went smoothly, the generator starts on first pull and was great on gas. We were happy to have the camper on Thursday as it poured for part of the night. In the past when it rained we were in a tent. It was nice to be able to take a shower to get the dust off of me and sweat. Bed is super comfortable and the ac worked well but we only used it for a short time. All in all it was a great experience dealing with them. Will be looking forward to using them again next year.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Westmere, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Westmere, NY?
Great news for budget-minded travelers: an RV rental in Westmere is one of the more affordable ways to explore the Capital Region. Motorhomes near the Albany area average around $200 per night, while towable trailers run closer to $120 per night, and most hosts offer 10 to 20 percent discounts on weekly and monthly bookings. You can stretch your dollar further by traveling midweek, booking during the shoulder months of late April, May, September, or October, and choosing a travel trailer if you already have a capable tow vehicle. Filter by price range on RVezy and message hosts directly about multi-night discounts. Pro tip: pairing a cheap RV rental Westmere booking with a state park campsite at Thacher (under $25 a night) keeps your whole trip well under hotel pricing.
parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/thompsons-lake-campground-thacher-state-parkDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Westmere, NY?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Westmere for nearly every rig on RVezy. New York State allows a standard Class D license to operate recreational vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,000 pounds or less, which covers essentially every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and most Class A motorhomes you will find on the platform. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified through the booking platform so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you are set.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included with my RVezy rental in Westmere?
Every RV rental in Westmere booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you can hit Interstate 90 with real peace of mind. You choose the protection level that fits your comfort during checkout (the renter selects this, not the host), and the plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip. If something goes sideways, whether it is a flat tire on the Thruway or a slide-out that will not retract at Thompson's Lake Campground, one phone call gets help dispatched. Review the plan details at checkout and pick the tier that lets you relax on your Westmere RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Westmere RV trip?
Booking an RV rental in Westmere is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy across the platform, not the individual host. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, and the refund amount after that depends on how far out from your trip you cancel. That means you can lock in a great RV for your Albany-area trip now and still have flexibility if plans change. Review the current cancellation details at checkout before you confirm, and reach out to RVezy support if a weather event or emergency comes up. Booking early protects both your dates and your wallet.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Westmere RV rental?
Absolutely, and you've got plenty of options for a pet-friendly RV rental Westmere travelers love. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats), and message the host about any size or breed details before booking. Once you're on the road, Thacher State Park and Thompson's Lake Campground both welcome leashed pets with proof of rabies vaccination, and the John Boyd Thacher cliffside trails are a hit with active dogs. Schodack Island State Park along the Hudson is another tail-wagging favorite about 25 minutes south. Pro tip: pack a copy of your dog's vaccination record because New York State Parks staff can ask for it at check-in.
parks.ny.gov/recreation/pets/Can the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Westmere?
Yes, RV delivery Westmere is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if you're nervous about driving a big rig through the Crossgates Mall area or down Western Avenue. Many local hosts will drop the motorhome or travel trailer right at your campsite (Thompson's Lake at Thacher State Park, Alps Family Campground, or Arrowhead Marina are common delivery spots), level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter for Delivery on RVezy, then message the host with your destination address so they can quote the fee, which is usually based on round-trip mileage. It's the easiest way to enjoy a motorhome rental Westmere stay without ever getting behind the wheel of the RV yourself.
parks.ny.gov/parks/thompsonslake/How far can I drive on an RV rental from Westmere?
You can comfortably reach an incredible range of destinations on a Westmere RV trip. Lake George is about 60 miles north (roughly an hour up the Northway), Saratoga Springs sits 35 miles north, the Catskills' North-South Lake area is about 50 miles south, the Adirondack High Peaks around Lake Placid run 140 miles, and the Berkshires in Massachusetts are just 40 miles east on Route 20. Each host sets their own mileage policy, with some offering unlimited mileage and others including 100 to 150 free miles per night plus a per-mile fee beyond that. Look for an RV rental with unlimited mileage if you're planning a big loop, and ask the host directly through RVezy messaging if you want to confirm before booking.
dot.ny.gov/regional-offices/region1What are the best campgrounds near Westmere, NY?
You're spoiled for choice with the best campgrounds near Westmere. Thompson's Lake Campground at John Boyd Thacher State Park (about 18 miles southwest) offers 140 wooded sites, a sandy beach, and panoramic Helderberg Escarpment views. Schodack Island State Park (about 25 miles south on the Hudson) has electric hookup sites and excellent birding. Alps Family Campground in Averill Park (30 minutes east) is a full-hookup favorite with creekside sites. Arrowhead Marina and RV Park in Glenville sits right on the Mohawk River with 64 shaded sites. For a Berkshires-meets-Taconics vibe, Spacious Skies Woodland Hills near Austerlitz is a wooded resort with a swim pond. Book Thompson's Lake nine months ahead for summer weekends, since lakefront sites disappear fast.
parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/thompsons-lake-campground-thacher-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for RV camping in Westmere?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping Westmere, with summer highs in the upper 70s to mid-80s and crisp, sunny days. July and August are peak season for swimming at Thompson's Lake and festival weekends in Saratoga, while late September into early October delivers world-class fall foliage along the Helderberg Escarpment and up the Adirondack Northway. Spring (mid-April to May) is quieter and budget-friendly, though nights can dip into the 40s. Winters are cold and snowy, with January averages in the low 20s, so most state-park campgrounds close after Columbus Day weekend. Local tip: book the last weekend of September if you want peak leaf-peeping with full campground services still running.
weather.gov/aly/I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay on my first trip?
You're going to do great. First time renting an RV in Westmere is easier than most people expect because every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the generator, awning, slide-outs, water systems, and dump valves before you leave the driveway. Class B campervans and smaller Class C motorhomes are popular first-timer picks because they drive similarly to a large van or U-Haul. Plan your first route to avoid downtown Albany rush hour (7 to 9 AM and 4 to 6 PM on I-90), take I-87 north to a nearby campground like Thompson's Lake, and practice backing into your site before guests arrive. Your host is one message away if a question comes up mid-trip.
dmv.ny.gov/about-dmv/drivers-manualWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
Take a breath, you are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat on Route 20, your battery dies in the Crossgates Mall parking lot, or you need a tow off the Thruway, one phone call gets help rolling. Coverage typically includes towing, jump-starts, tire changes, lockout service, and emergency fuel delivery. For mechanical issues with the RV's systems (fridge, AC, slide-out), message your host directly because they know their rig best and can often walk you through a fix in minutes. Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave Westmere and you will never feel stranded on your New York adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Westmere RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Absolutely, interstate travel is part of the fun. From Westmere you're a short drive from Vermont (45 minutes east to Bennington), Massachusetts (40 minutes to the Berkshires), Connecticut, and New Hampshire, all of which are standard territory for an RV road trip from Westmere. Crossing into Canada (Montreal is about 220 miles north via I-87) is sometimes allowed but depends on the host's insurance, so message them through the RVezy listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Bring your passport for any Canadian crossing, and budget extra time at the Champlain border crossing, especially on summer Friday afternoons.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and you'll keep fuel costs reasonable. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and larger Class A motorhomes run 7 to 10 MPG. Gas prices in the Westmere and Albany area tend to track slightly above the national average, so budget around $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon for regular and a bit more for diesel. A typical 200-mile loop to Lake George and back in a Class C will run roughly $60 to $80 in fuel. Pro tip: the Stewart's Shops scattered across the Capital Region usually beat highway-exit pricing, and the Fuelio or GasBuddy apps help you find the cheapest pump along your route.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Westmere?
Book sooner than you think. New York State Parks open reservations nine months in advance through ReserveAmerica (1-800-456-2267 or newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com), and prime summer weekends at Thompson's Lake Campground and Schodack Island State Park can fill the morning the window opens. For July and August Saturdays, aim to book in November or December of the previous year. Private campgrounds like Alps Family Campground and Arrowhead Marina are usually bookable three to six months ahead, with shoulder-season midweek stays often available just a week or two out. Pro tip: same-day reservations at NY State Park campgrounds are allowed until 3 PM if you're feeling spontaneous, and cancellations free up sites constantly.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What are driving conditions like around Westmere?
Driving an RV around Westmere is genuinely manageable for most renters. Western Avenue (Route 20) is the main commercial drag with traffic lights and the Crossgates Mall area, so avoid it during weekday rush hour and on Saturday afternoons in December. Interstate 90 and Interstate 87 (the Northway) flank the area with wide lanes and gentle grades, making them friendly for first-time motorhome drivers. Watch height clearances on a few older overpasses on Route 9 south, and budget extra time in winter (November through March) when lake-effect snow squalls can roll through. Pro tip: most local hosts know exactly which routes to avoid in a tall rig and will share their favorite back-road shortcuts to Thacher State Park during your pickup walkthrough.
511ny.org/What hookups and amenities will I find at local campgrounds?
You'll find a great mix near Westmere. Full-hookup parks like Alps Family Campground, Arrowhead Marina and RV Park, and Spacious Skies Woodland Hills offer 30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer at the site, plus on-site dump stations, hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi at many. State park campgrounds like Thompson's Lake at Thacher are more rustic (no electric hookups, but potable water, flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station are available). The closest big-box dump-and-fill stops are at private campgrounds along Route 146 and Route 20. Pro tip: confirm your generator hours with the campground office, since New York State Parks limit generator use to 9 to 11 AM and 5 to 9 PM to keep evenings peaceful.
parks.ny.gov/parks/thompsonslake/What's actually inside the RVs available in Westmere?
More than you'd expect. RVs available for rent in Westmere typically come fully equipped with a queen or king sleeping area, convertible dinette and sofa beds, a working kitchen (fridge/freezer, stovetop, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, roof AC, a furnace for chilly Adirondack nights, and seatbelts for every passenger seat. Many include a generator, outdoor awning, TV, Bluetooth stereo, and some have Wi-Fi boosters or starter kits with linens, dishes, and camp chairs. Class C motorhomes sleep 4 to 8, while travel trailers and fifth wheels often sleep 6 to 10. Check the listing photos and amenity list carefully on RVezy, and message the host about anything specific (like a coffee maker or kids' bunks) before you book.
consumer.ftc.gov/articles/buying-rvWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in the Westmere area offer some genuinely useful add-ons to make your trip easier. Common options include camping kits (linens, towels, kitchen gear) for $50 to $100, bike racks, generators, kayaks or paddleboards, propane refills, portable grills, and even pre-stocked pantry packages. Pickup is usually at the host's home in the Westmere, Guilderland, or greater Albany area, and many hosts will drop the RV at your campground for an additional delivery fee based on round-trip mileage. Mileage policies vary by listing, with some offering unlimited miles and others including 100 to 150 free miles per night. Pro tip: use the Instant Book filter on RVezy if you're booking last-minute, and confirm your pickup time at least 48 hours before your trip starts.
dot.ny.gov/indexHow do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure with RVezy. You pay through the platform with a credit or debit card when you book, and the refundable security deposit is handled separately from your booking payment, with the amount set by the host (commonly a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV). As long as you return the RV in the same condition, the deposit is released after the trip wraps up. To avoid issues, take time-stamped photos of the interior, exterior, fuel gauge, and odometer at both pickup and drop-off, and document anything pre-existing through RVezy messaging. Pro tip: keep your final fuel receipt from the Albany area as proof of the return fuel level.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV overnight in the Westmere area outside of campgrounds?
You've got a few solid options for overnight parking around Westmere. Many Walmart stores along Route 20 and Wolf Road allow free overnight RV parking with manager permission, though always call ahead since policies vary by location. Cabela's and some Cracker Barrel locations near Latham are also RV-friendly for a single night. New York State law prohibits overnight sleeping in rest areas along the Thruway and Northway, so plan to reach a campground or approved lot before bedtime. For a true escape, public lands in nearby state forests like Partridge Run Wildlife Management Area (about 25 miles southwest) allow primitive dispersed camping. Pro tip: download the iOverlander or AllStays app to scout vetted overnight spots along your full Westmere RV trip route.
