Dana was an amazing RV host! She was very communicative, responsive, and helpful throughout the entire process. When we arrived, the RV was completely set up and ready for us, including outdoor chairs, a table, and a rug that made the campsite feel welcoming and comfortable right away. The RV was exceptionally clean and stocked with everything we needed for our stay. It was clear that Dana pays attention to the details and truly cares about her guests’ experience. Our stay at Garner State Park was even more enjoyable because of how easy and comfortable everything was. I would highly recommend renting from Dana, and we are already looking forward to renting from her again in the future!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Camp Wood, TX

How much does an RV rental in Camp Wood, TX typically cost?

An RV rental in Camp Wood is one of the most affordable ways to experience the Texas Hill Country. Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A coaches run $250 to $400 per night. Because Camp Wood is a small Real County town, you will often find better midweek deals than near San Antonio or Austin. To score a cheap RV rental Camp Wood travelers love, book a travel trailer with delivery, avoid Spring Break and Memorial Day weekend, and aim for May or October when the Nueces River is still warm but rates dip.

What kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Camp Wood?

Good news for first-timers: a standard driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Camp Wood for nearly every rig on RVezy. Texas only requires a non-commercial Class B license for personal RVs over 26,000 pounds GVWR, which excludes virtually every Class C motorhome, campervan, travel trailer, and fifth wheel on the platform. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID directly through the booking process. Visiting from abroad? An International Driving Permit paired with your home license works. Most guests are surprised how quickly they are cleared to drive off toward the Nueces River.

Is my Camp Wood RV rental protected if something goes wrong?

Peace of mind is built into every booking. Every RV rental in Camp Wood, TX through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered for eligible damage, towing, tire issues, lockouts, and breakdowns whether you are parked at Wes Cooksey Park or driving the Three Sisters loop. During checkout you select your protection level, so you can pick the coverage that fits your comfort zone. Tip: cell service near Camp Wood can be spotty, so save the 24/7 roadside number to your phone before leaving paved highways.

What is the cancellation policy if my Camp Wood RV trip plans change?

You can book with confidence. RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy for every RV rental Texas guests reserve, and there is a built-in grace period after booking when you can cancel for a full refund. Refund eligibility after that window depends on how far out from your trip you cancel. The most current details for your specific booking live in your RVezy account and the Help Center. Pro tip: book early for spring tubing season on the Nueces, then relax knowing flexibility is baked into the platform.

Can I bring my dog on a Camp Wood RV trip?

Yes, Camp Wood is dog-friendly and so are many host listings. Filter for Pet-Friendly when you search to find a pet-friendly RV rental Camp Wood travelers love, then plan a trip your pup will enjoy. Many private parks along the Nueces welcome pets for a small fee, and leashed dogs are allowed throughout Garner State Park (but not in cabins or park buildings). The Nueces River swimming hole in town is a perfect spot for a wet-dog romp. Message the host before booking to confirm any size limits, and pack a towel because Hill Country dogs come home muddy and happy.

Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Camp Wood?

Yes, RV delivery in Camp Wood is a game-changer, especially for first-timers nervous about driving Highway 55's winding curves. Many RVezy hosts will deliver the rig directly to Wes Cooksey Park, a local riverfront RV park, or a private Hill Country ranch, then level it, hook up water and 30/50 amp power, and walk you through every system. Filter for Delivery on the listing page to see which hosts include it and their per-mile fee. It is the easiest way to rent an RV in Camp Wood without ever towing a thing. Pro tip: pair delivery with full setup so you can roll up, unpack groceries, and head straight to the river.

How many miles can I drive on my Camp Wood RV rental?

You will have plenty of road to explore. Most Camp Wood hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and many offer unlimited mileage packages or generous add-on bundles, which is plenty for a classic Hill Country loop. From Camp Wood you are roughly 30 minutes to Garner State Park, 35 minutes to Lost Maples State Natural Area, 45 minutes to Concan and the Frio River, and about 2 hours to San Antonio. Planning a bigger RV road trip from Camp Wood? Ask the host about an unlimited mileage upgrade at booking. The Three Sisters loop alone is worth the extra miles.

Where are the best campgrounds near Camp Wood to park my RV?

You have great options for RV camping in Camp Wood. Top picks include Nueces River RV and Cabin Resort with full hookups along the river, Los Rios Campground right in town, and Wes Cooksey Park a few miles south on Lake Nueces with a boat ramp. For bigger adventures, Garner State Park near Concan offers water and electric sites along the Frio River. Pro tip: book Garner up to 5 months ahead through Texas Parks and Wildlife, because Hill Country state park sites disappear fast for summer weekends.

When is the best time of year for an RV trip to Camp Wood?

Camp Wood is a year-round destination with mild winters and plenty of sunshine. The sweet spot is April through early June when wildflowers bloom along FM 337 and the Nueces River runs cool and clear, plus September and October when summer crowds vanish and daytime highs settle into the 70s and 80s. July and August are hot (mid 90s) but perfect for tubing the local swimming holes. Winter is the locals' secret: comfortable 60s during the day with cool nights, and bargain rates on a motorhome rental Camp Wood snowbirds quietly enjoy. Pro tip: avoid Memorial Day weekend if you want a quiet riverbank, and visit Lost Maples in November for peak fall color.

I've never driven an RV before. Is Camp Wood a good place to start?

Yes, Camp Wood is one of the most beginner-friendly RV destinations in Texas. Highway 55 from Uvalde north into town is wide and lightly trafficked, with no city congestion. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering propane, slides, leveling, water, and the dump valve, so first time renting an RV anxiety melts away in about 20 minutes. If you would rather not drive at all, choose a host who offers delivery to your campground. Pro tip: practice backing up once in an empty pasture before you tackle a tight site, and you will feel like a pro by sunset.

What happens if I have a breakdown or flat tire near Camp Wood?

You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Camp Wood, TX through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering flat tires, jump starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service. Camp Wood sits about 50 miles north of Uvalde, the closest town with full RV service and tire shops, so save the roadside number in your phone before you leave pavement. Cell coverage along Highway 55 and FM 337 can be patchy, so move toward higher ground or drive a mile until bars appear. Pro tip: do a quick tire pressure check at the gas station in Camp Wood before heading out on the Three Sisters loop.

What are the best road trips from Camp Wood by RV?

You are sitting on one of the best RV road trip from Camp Wood launching pads in Texas. Top routes include the legendary Three Sisters / Twisted Sisters loop (RM 335, 336, 337) through Leakey, Vanderpool, and Medina (about 100 miles of canyon scenery); Lost Maples State Natural Area for fall foliage (about 45 minutes northeast); Garner State Park on the Frio River (about 30 minutes south); Devil's Sinkhole near Rocksprings (about 35 minutes north); and Uvalde (about 50 minutes south). For a longer haul, San Antonio is about 2 hours east. Note: travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance coverage, so plan your loop north and east. Pro tip: fuel up in Leakey, gas is often cheaper there than in Camp Wood proper.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validity

How much should I budget for fuel during my Camp Wood RV trip?

Fuel is one of the easier costs to predict. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, travel trailers towed by a pickup get 10 to 14 MPG, and campervans sip closer to 16 to 20 MPG. Texas gas prices typically run below the national average, and Camp Wood's small-town pump tends to be slightly higher than Uvalde or Leakey because of its remote location. For a typical 4-day Hill Country loop covering 250 miles, budget roughly $80 to $150 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: top off in Uvalde on the drive up so you are not paying a premium at the small-town pump, and confirm with your host where to refill propane.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Camp Wood?

Booking early is your secret weapon. Garner State Park, one of the most-visited state parks in Texas, opens reservations 5 months in advance through Texas Parks and Wildlife, and summer weekends, Spring Break, and holidays sell out the morning they open. Private parks around Camp Wood typically book 2 to 3 months ahead for peak Memorial Day through Labor Day, but often have midweek openings even in summer. Wes Cooksey Park is first-come, first-served. Pro tip: if Garner is sold out, look for a private Hipcamp ranch site near Camp Wood and day-trip into the park.

What are the local driving conditions like around Camp Wood?

Driving in and around Camp Wood is relaxing once you know what to expect. Highway 55 between Uvalde and Camp Wood is a smooth two-lane road with sweeping curves and minimal traffic. FM 337 (the Twisted Sisters) is famously scenic but has steep grades, hairpin turns, and 15 to 25 mph corners, so larger Class A motorhomes should take it slow or skip it. Watch for white-tailed deer at dawn and dusk, especially on Highway 55 south of town. Flash flooding can close low-water crossings on the Nueces and Frio after heavy rain, so never drive through moving water. Pro tip: bigger rigs should approach Camp Wood from Uvalde via US-83 to Highway 55, not from Medina via FM 337.

What hookups and dump stations are available at Camp Wood campgrounds?

You will find solid infrastructure for your rig. Most private parks around Camp Wood, including Nueces River RV and Cabin Resort and Los Rios Campground, offer full hookups (30 and 50 amp electric, fresh water, sewer) at every site, plus on-site bathhouses and laundry. Garner State Park has water and electric sites with a dump station available in the park. Wes Cooksey Park offers basic RV sites with electric and water. Pro tip: top off your fresh tank before leaving town since rural fill points can be limited, and bring a 25-foot sewer hose because a few older private sites have the sewer connection further from the pad than you would expect.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/garner/fees-facilities/campsites

What amenities come inside a typical Camp Wood RV rental?

You will be comfortable from the moment you step inside. A typical RVezy rental in Camp Wood comes fully equipped with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunks, a kitchen with refrigerator, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a wet bath or full bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning (essential for Hill Country summers), a furnace for cool nights, and seatbelted travel seats for every passenger. Most also include a flat-screen TV, an awning, outdoor chairs, and a propane grill. Wi-Fi and generators vary by listing, so check the amenities tab. Pro tip: cell signal near the Nueces River is spotty, so download shows and offline maps in Uvalde before you head north on Highway 55.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Camp%20Wood%2C%20Texas

What add-ons and pickup options can I expect when I rent an RV in Camp Wood?

Hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Common add-ons for an RV rental in Camp Wood, TX include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, generator use, propane refills, bike racks, kayak racks (a Nueces River must), camp chairs, fire pits, and outdoor mats. Pickup is usually from the host's address in or near Camp Wood, Uvalde, or San Antonio, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough of every system. Many hosts also offer delivery to Wes Cooksey Park, Garner State Park, or a local riverfront RV park for a per-mile fee. Pro tip: add a kayak or paddleboard to your booking since the Nueces is one of the clearest, calmest paddles in Texas.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008394-Delivery-options-explained

How does payment and the security deposit work for my Camp Wood RV rental?

Payment is simple and secure, handled online through RVezy. You pay the rental total at booking using a credit or debit card, and the host receives funds only after your trip starts, which protects both sides. A refundable security deposit is held separately before pickup and released after your trip if the RV comes back clean, undamaged, and on time. To avoid issues, do a video walkaround with your host at pickup and dropoff, refill propane and fuel as agreed, and dump the tanks before returning. Pro tip: keep your check-in photos until your deposit is fully released, which makes any dispute easy to resolve.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-works

What's a local insider tip for making the most of Camp Wood?

Here is a tip locals share: skip the crowded Garner beach on Saturday and head to the free Nueces River swimming hole right in Camp Wood, where the river runs deep below short bluffs. Pack barbecue from a local Camp Wood smokehouse, float for an afternoon, then drive a few miles south to Wes Cooksey Park for sunset over Lake Nueces. Stargazing here is excellent thanks to minimal light pollution. Pro tip: stop by the historical marker on Highway 55 commemorating the 1762 Mission San Lorenzo de la Santa Cruz site, a quick history stop most visitors miss.
