Bob was very easy to deal with. He answered ever question we had regarding the RV. We have rented from this platform not had we ever driven a vehicle so large. He put us at ease. As for his rental it was fully stocked with everything we needed including coffee. The RV was clean and the bed was made up for us. He took the time to go through how everything worked. We used the RV for rough camping at a NASCAR race so we didn’t have any electricity. The RV was able to handle this for 4 days with no issues. I would definitely rent from Bob again.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Danville, VA?

Good news, a regular Virginia or out-of-state Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Danville for almost every rig on RVezy. The Virginia DMV only requires a commercial driver's license for vehicles over 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight rating, and personal recreational use is excluded from that rule. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and identification is confirmed inside the platform during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit and you are set to roll down US-29 toward your campground.

When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Danville, VA?

Danville's humid subtropical climate gives you a long RV season. Spring (April to early June) brings highs in the 70s and blooming dogwoods, fall (mid-September through October) delivers crisp 60s to low 70s with brilliant foliage along the Dan River, and summer hits the upper 80s with humidity perfect for lake days at Smith Mountain Lake. Winters are mild with highs in the mid-40s and only a few inches of snow per year, so RV camping in Danville is realistic almost year-round. Pro tip, plan an October trip to combine peak Blue Ridge color with cooler driving conditions, then cap the trip with a show at Caesars Virginia.

I have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay in Danville?

You are going to do great, and you will not be alone. First time renting an RV is easier than most people expect, especially in Danville where roads like US-29, US-58, and the Danville Expressway are wide, well-paved, and far less congested than big-city driving. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering the propane, leveling, slide-outs, tanks, and generator, and you can message them throughout your trip with questions. RVezy support is also available 24/7. Pro tip, choose a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer for your first Danville trip. They drive like a large van and park easily at most campgrounds.

Take a breath, you are covered. Every RV rental in Danville on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on US-58, a dead battery at Staunton River State Park, or a tow on the way to Smith Mountain Lake is handled with a single phone call. Your host is also just a message away for quick questions about quirks like the awning or water pump. RVezy customer support is reachable around the clock before, during, and after your trip. Can I take my Danville RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Yes, cross-state road trips are encouraged. From Danville you are right on the Virginia and North Carolina line, so a quick run to Greensboro, Raleigh, or the Outer Banks is a natural RV road trip from Danville. Many hosts also allow travel up to Washington DC, Tennessee, or into Canada with advance approval. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Message the host before booking to confirm your route. Pro tip, popular multi-state loops from Danville include the Blue Ridge Parkway to Asheville and a coastal run from Danville to Virginia Beach.

How much should I budget for fuel on a Danville RV trip?

Fuel is usually one of the easier line items to plan. Class C motorhomes around Danville typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans deliver 18 to 22 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Virginia gas prices generally run near or below the national average, with stations clustered along US-29, US-58, and Riverside Drive making fill-ups easy. For a typical 300-mile loop to Smith Mountain Lake and back, budget roughly $90 to $130 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip, use a fuel app like GasBuddy to spot the best prices near the Danville Mall before heading out.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Danville?

Book sooner than you think, especially for weekends. Virginia State Parks like Staunton River and Fairy Stone accept reservations up to 11 months in advance through the Virginia State Parks reservation system, while US Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds at Kerr Reservoir use Recreation.gov with a six-month window. Private parks take direct reservations year-round and fill quickly on holiday weekends and Virginia International Raceway race weekends. For peak summer (June through August), aim for at least 60 to 90 days out. Pro tip, midweek arrivals at Staunton River almost always have openings even in July, perfect for a spontaneous family RV trip in Danville.

What are driving conditions like around Danville for a big RV?

Danville is a refreshingly RV-friendly city to navigate. The main arteries, US-29, US-58, and the Danville Expressway, are wide four-lane highways with generous shoulders, gentle grades, and minimal city traffic compared to Northern Virginia or Charlotte. Watch for the historic Main Street and Millionaires Row downtown, where tree canopies can be tight for taller Class A motorhomes. Heading west into the Blue Ridge foothills, expect winding roads and a few steeper climbs around Philpott Lake and Fairy Stone State Park. Pro tip, fuel up and dump tanks before heading toward the Blue Ridge Parkway, services thin out fast once you leave the US-29 corridor.

What hookups and amenities will I find at Danville-area campgrounds?

Most RV parks near Danville come well equipped. You can expect 30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer hookups at many private parks, while state parks like Staunton River offer electric and water at their RV sites plus a centralized dump station. Potable water fill stations are standard, and many private parks add Wi-Fi, laundry, hot showers, swimming pools, and camp stores. Dump stations are also available at several Virginia State Parks for registered campers. Pro tip, if you are boondocking on Corps of Engineers land around Kerr Reservoir, top off freshwater in town first.

What features should I expect inside a typical Danville RV rental?

Most Danville RV rentals come stocked and ready to roll. Expect a full kitchen with a stove, microwave, fridge, and sink, a bathroom with a shower and toilet, comfortable sleeping for two to eight people depending on size, plus air conditioning and a furnace for humid summers and chilly January nights. Many hosts also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and a generator or solar setup for boondocking. Wi-Fi varies, so confirm with your host if you plan to work from Smith Mountain Lake. Pro tip, look for listings with a generator and extra freshwater capacity if you want a self-contained rig to park near Caesars Virginia or Virginia International Raceway.

Are there add-on options and what about pickup and dropoff in Danville?

Yes, hosts offer plenty of extras to customize your trip. Common add-ons for an RV rental in Virginia include kitchen kits, linens and bedding, outdoor chairs and grills, bike racks, generators, and propane refills, with fees clearly listed on each RVezy listing. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Danville, Chatham, or nearby Ringgold, and delivery to area campgrounds like Staunton River is widely available for a flat fee based on distance. Mileage policies vary per listing, so check the daily allowance before booking. Pro tip, bundle delivery, setup, and a generator add-on if you are heading to a no-hookup site at Philpott Lake. It saves time and gets you straight to the campfire.

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is simple and secure, no cash is handed over at pickup. You pay directly through RVezy when you book your campervan or motorhome rental in Danville, and your card information stays protected on the platform. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before your trip, with the amount set by the host on each listing. As long as you return the RV in the same condition, with the agreed fuel and mileage, the hold is released after your trip. Pro tip, do a quick walkaround video with your host at pickup and dropoff and timestamp it. It is the single best way to avoid any disputes and get your full deposit back, fast.
